Yes they have. And ques what. Nothing is stoping them. And many thinks increase the rate they leave.

Logged in today, Hossin or Esamir, played for half an hour, logged out

I know the happy brigade wont like this but I dont much like Hossin, the fog makes my eyes tired and my flash keeps getting hooked up on map furniture, and esamir didnt have much of a fight, it was mostly capped anyway and I think everyone was just leaving it so we could unlock one of the others.

Shame really, I enjoyed having three continents, at least I could choose, now its the worst two of the whole game and to me thats just boring.

The only reason why you don't like it is because you haven't played it enough to be an efficient tanker on it. Half the battle as a tanker is knowing the terrain, if you don't play the map then you don't know the terrain.

You're doing something called the "Correlation = Causation" fallacy.

You do realize that eventually you wouldn't be able to access Indar 24/7 anyways, do you?

Permanent threeways on all continents all the time was never the intended design of this game, and it shouldn't be. This is not several lobby shooters connected with terminals, this is an ongoing conquest. With territory being captured, thus not being avaible to everyone. Each empire having a permanent foothold on every continent was a terrible placeholder and thankfully now is a thing of the past.
By the way, this doesn't mean the current "WIP" mechanics are good (because they are not), but all the complaints seem to come from the fact that those people can't play on their favorite continent all the time. And that WILL HAPPEN ANYWAYS. FYI THAT IS THE POINT OF THIS GAME.

I just don't get the people who say "if we can't play on indar we won't play at all". Didn't you inform yourselves atleast a slight bit about what a Planetside game would, and should, be?

I do love how last week that graph was being used to show how Liberators were destroying PS2.

You can learn the map all you want, but you'll never have massive tank battles on Hossin.

Well, personally i've had some of the most intense fights during these last days, especially one on amerish that i will remember for quite some time, havent had battles like that since around the time of release. (Since it involved direct clashes along lattices it ended up with alot of fighting in open fields between bases aswell, Super fun! :D )

I may be wrong, but getting these huge buffs from locking actually seems to really incentivize outfits to really fight for a continent. And when opposing faction outfits clash (which happens more often now due to obvious reasons) it really makes for good fights.

That beeing said, am i happy with the current version? Not really, i believe these awesome fights occuring at the moment is because the system is something "new", and that it will fade soon enough when it really starts to feel like same old same old again due to the lack of grander strategic movement. It still is only 4 continents and no intercontinental lattice. This, i think ends up in the same fronts all the time, where people can randomly jump to any unlocked continent and start fighting.

I saw some people complain about not beeing able to fight where they wanted, and that won't necessarily improove with intercontinental lattice, however, if say Esamir gets locked now, you have to make sure that a faction manages to take two continents before Esamir becomes available again. Notice that i said A faction, not yours. Any faction taking another continent will unlock another.

In contrast, i refer to that map posted by Doombro in the middle of page 2 of this thread, you will have the ability to fight TOWARDS the continent/base you want to fight (On top of it all you can choose your own Cont lattice route), it won't do you any good if you are playing for the Terrans, if the vanu takes the continent you like from the NC. Unless the Terrans actually manages to fight towards it and get it for themselves, it will always be locked for them.

I have probably just written down what most of you allready know. Just wanted to point out the differences between the current system and a proper cont lattice. Also, i want to say again that while i'm not satisfied with the current system Metagame wise, it has lead to some interesting fights for me.

I agree, it should not be tied to alerts. This is one of the issues that needs addressing imo
  10. ShadowViper

YEAH MAN! You should go check it out, right now, and never tell us how that goes.

    Ah sounds good :)

Some magnifcent battles on Woodman at the moment - across 2 continents with Hossin and Amerish locked.

The continent locking has given factions something to REALLY fight for. Some really hardcore and committed struggles going on.

    GREAT STUFF!

On my server we have a new continent lock about every hour.
And let's not forget: If Amerish was your favorite continent....you could always go there, but it was always empty. It's better now for all that have not been into pure 24/7 indarside....

As I see it, there are two reasons for continent locks in the game.

    1) Most importantly, population control. By closing 2 islands (they are NOT continents) they limit how spread out the armies can get. Thus bigger fights more often. In theory, that is.

    2) Letting PS1 vets wax nostalgic. I have nothing against PS1 players nor that game, but I find PS1 boring. And though some features seem neat, I would not want to see 2 turn into 1 with prettier textures.

That's fine, no issues, I like to fight on indar but if they are going to keep it the alert/94% way of winning is BS. That's what I am saying.

    I LOVE IT !!!

    And it depresses me...
At the current development rate, we'll be playing the 'real' PS2 on quantum computers... :(

And it brings another question: why didn't they introduce the continental lattice BEFORE the locks ?
  19. HadesR

ATM locking + tied to alerts is counter productive if their goal is to get people to play other continents ...

" Here's an alert as an incentive to play somewhere different "

" But whether you win or lose , regardless of if you are having fun or not after it's finished you can **** off to some where else "
