I am VERY bad at this game and I'm getting worse.

God I have this so much. It also depends on if my kids are home or not. If they're home, I'll do crappy because I'm only half-arsed playing the game due to being bombarded with questions and requests. If everyone is out of the house (rare) I usually do much better.
  2. Gicod

Well Leftconsin (fellow cheesehead?), you are 10 battle ranks ahead of me with a .45 K/D higher than mine. If you are terrible then I am worse than terrible. Don't feel so bad.

    I lol'ed. +1

I'll agree the explosive nerf is a mixed bag of BS. For or against. It should be scaled back up some so that it fits with the designated roles of area effect damage so it's back to it's effective use. Mind you when it's spammed by numerous sources it can be aggravating, which is the downside of explosive AOE.

Perhaps splash damage weapons (HEAT,Bulldog, etc) should only inflict splash damage an no direct damage. This way widening the indirect aoe of those weapons isn't really a bad thing, since it becomes an absolute tradeoff by removing a higher direct damage impact. Think of the round as an airbursting fragmentation. Or make the direct damage hit only slightly higher than the indirect rating.

As to the OP. I can't say I've noticed an overall drop in personal performance of kill or be killed ability. I've noticed longer loading times an some odd sporadic high an low latency that has effected hit detection at times. As well I've recently noticed the LA, adrenaline warp bug (often thinking it was more a speed hack than a bug).

All I can offer as advice is to practice playing other first person shooters that have fast TTKs, movement an require murderously quick twitch response. Games like Counterstrike, Blacklight Retribution, etc.. Once you start improving in those arena's you should notice a slight improvement in planetside2. Or at the least I've noticed an improvement by playing those sort of FPS games. Reaction time an practiced controls/reflexes generally help across the board an translate to other FPS well (most of the time).

First off I don't think latency or hit detection has any effect on anyone's game play. Hit detection being off is just some random element thrown in that may help or hinder you at any moment. It should just even out, right?

I also don't think performance has a significant factor into game play until you start getting into the 5-10 FPS range. Its always my job to compensate for it and I should be just as good at 15 FPS as I am at 60.

I do watch videos. Regularly. I'm not sure they are helping me improve any.

My TR is my first and primary. The NC I made as kind of a throw away to play when I'm drinking. The VS was one I made and I don't play that often. I really just wanted to try out the Orion.

I'll try to generate a video of my play.

EDIT: I forgot to put this in in reference to someone suggesting I play a FPS with a higher TTK. .I also play on a TF2 10x server where nearly everything is a OHK.

Sorry to ruin your day, but Wrel is not really a good player, hes average at best.
Watch Vonic's stream, or catch up with Visigodo on twitch. Those guys are extremely good, I still learn a couple things from them from time to time.

As the poster child for "What you can do with a sub par setup" I have to respectfully disagree.

    25-45 FPS? Check.
20 dollar mouse, cheap 6 inch mouse pad, 15 dollar keyboard? Check.
Zero cares given about fancy DPI settings, it has a laser though. Check.

Internet connection that sometimes somehow has a worse ping wise than outfit members playing from Argentina and Portugal despite living a state away from the servers. Somehow... check.

Deaths from full auto weapons coming in as if they were deaths from shotguns (damage all at once) about 50% of the time. Check.

I will say though, when you watch good players who do stream, it is amazing how smooth things are and how even the damage comes in.

It isn't you it is the title, be it the demands it makes on a PC of a certain spec or under or/and just how badly it runs. Exhibit A, the newly introduced hitching and broken run mechanism since Friday's update.

There is absolutely no consistency to gameplay what-so-ever, before deleting my character I would swap between most of the unlocked weapon types to see which one would 'work'. WTF, which gun will 'work' in each online FPS session?

Whatever it is that the 'good' players do or have is the 'secret', completely discounting those that exploit vehicles, heavies, invisible snipers and maxes as they are just gimped gameplay mechanics infantry have 0% chance of winning in most instances by developer design.

The lack of consistency cannot be attributed solely to 'having a bad day' there is something fundamentally wrong that it is not possible for the individual in front of their screen to identify, short of completely changing their system and Internet specifications.

It is like baking bread using the same recipe every time and it not rising. It makes no sense as you have followed the instructions to the letter.

And it turned out that the measuring spoon you used contaminated the yeast with salt and killed it, meaning the bread didn't rise.

PS2 has some salt somewhere and it is killing the yeast of your average player so no matter what they do they can't get those 1-4 hit kills, headshot an opponent on full auto LMG at 200m+ or spin around 180 degrees in nanoseconds and kill that player behind them they were totally unaware of.

The biggest difference is the PS2 recipe for success is unknown and random and unless you are prepared to spend £1600+ on a new system - which for one single title I am certainly not - you're not going to be even able to start to work out what it is no matter how crappy or good a day you are having.

THAT is what is wrong with you.

Rule number ZERO (not even one) for playing an FPS with mouse keyboard: lower your sens and GET RID OF MOUSE ACCELERATION :p. I still see some guys spinning around like a twister and never shoot at anything.
    High sens = bad.

But the true cancer for any FPS player is Mouse Accel because it will result in unpredictable movement of the cursor based on how strong a push you gave to the mouse, making aiming virtually impossible.

I do disagree anyway about lowering you mouse DPI. That's a terrible thing to do and you should go for it only as a last resource.
By lowering your DPI you are being LESS ACCURATE simply because your mouse is. You should always play with as much high DPI your system and the game you are playing allow you to do. You just need to tune down you OS global mouse sensitivity.

I found my spot at 2600 DPI (I could go up to 10000 with my G502 but modern game devs really don't like high DPI), couple of thicks of the Windows main sens, and in-game sens of 0.01 (not kidding). I can do a perfect 180 turn in a single mouse stroke, and that's really the max you need. You NEVER need to turn more than 180° in a single stroke (4 to 5 cm mouse movent). I've some pro friend that usually plays everything a 5000 DPI. I can't

    As a comparison

First is high DPI - low sens, second is low DPI - high sens.

Never turn down you DPI if you can avoid it ;)

It is an anecdote in response to your anecdote.

This is what is bad about adding anecdotes... there is no resolution and the reason they don't hold any water in a court of law.

I don't mean to seem snarky, but the issue of game performance affects people in many ways and to simply suggest that the reason people are bad at the game is just because they stink is ridiculous.

Especially in the face of well-known facts about internet gaming and issues surrounding the performance of PS2.

Did a test apprently each weapons now have a max HS range system!

One of the best players in the game and his equipment according to his Twitch page...

    http://www.twitch.tv/vonicvs#/vonicvs

While I can't find it at the moment, he has a link to a mouse set-up page that really helped me get a handle on mouse control.

Perhaps someone out there can add it if they have it.

I did pretty well in game myself (6-13 K/D across a few characters if that is an indication of anything) with the following so I see your point of view.

    i7-920
    P6T
    6 gigs of RAM
    500 gig HDD
    Nvidia GTX 260
and, like you a 20 dollar mouse and keyboard setup and a pair of really crappy headphones with a table-top mic!

My FPS tended toward 20-40 with major drops on Indar whenever near the Peris-Regent Rock corridor.
Ping to server averaged 80-120 with an ocassional spike to 500+.

A friend of mine with nearly the same system (he has a Samsung EVO SSD), however, can't fight his way out of a wet paper bag. Nor can I when I use his system and connection and I have no answer as to why and we live 20 miles from each other.

    I have since upgraded to...

    i7-4790k
    MSI Gaming 5
    16 gigs RAM
    Samsung EVO 250 SSD
    Nvidia 780ti
(still using the crappy peripherals though, lol)

For a while my game performance improved dramatically. It has since fallen into the toilet with the Directives patch... worse than my old system.
  15. Leftconsin

Well I saves my more recent play session.
    https://recursiontracker.com/?p=c&c=saved&id=6715
I'm clearly just getting worse and worse at this game. The only kill streak I had was when I stumbled across a group of people all with KDRs under 0.1. I must just be doing everything wrong.
  16. Lovecraft

Don't focus on kdr/"killing people"... I've been playing since late beta , BR75 w a kdr of approx .35.... Which is why I play Engineer mostly, and I know I've done Way more for the NC as a support guy than I would as a frontline guy, plus I'm still having fun (most important part right?).

I don't want to be forced into that play style. I want to stop sucking so badly and actually play this game well.

Try playing a game which has better netcode. You're severely gimped here. This isn't the place to L2P FPS games at all, imo.

Looks like your Rig is solid with the i7. I can't afford that CPU; however, I am looking at the Pentium 3258 with a GTX 750ti. The 3258 is only 70 bucks and competes well with the i7 for a fraction of the cost. Here's a vid on bench marks.
