Humorous Aspect of the Liberator Update Weapon

*Note to those reading this post: What is in RED or IN LARGE FONT is the only really important part of this post; and the only parts of it I really care about. You may ignore the rest if you like...

The well is poisoned already against the TR being "complainers."

Well, I'll complain; I hate that the Prowler is only effective at farming infantry. Completely boring and all the infantry of NC and VS hate us for it. It was terrible to give us an artillery piece and then call it a "tank" while the others get tanks. At last magburner is useful in tank vs. tank potentially, within 100 ms. I'll be honest; I don't like playing artillery. Not when my "artillery" piece is called a tank and I go running in expecting that I can go toe-to-toe with the other tanks without much difficulty. So yeah, lockdown is OP against infantry and it's a dumb ability. Yeah, I get it. I like to play against vehicles when I'm in vehicles. But while we have lockdown and not an ability that could be effective in a 1 vs 1 engagement other than past 100 meters, what choice do we have? Plus HE was implemented somewhat stupidly in the first place...

A lot of people complain about the mosquito. I'll complain about it too: they made it too easy to use initially, as an early game ESF, than the other two by a while. But I've been a mossy pilot; I die to that dang air hammer more times than I care to count. But that's because this is an ESF. Nothing else gets an air hammer except NC. We get our own rotary with its own traits, and they get their own. (yes I know the air hammer is not a rotary) I only wish mine (referring to rotaries) were as effective in close range as the NC was. But ours has less bullet drop. So who wins? I don't know. That's what I like about Planetside, there's no clear winner to me unless I were an MLG pro, then I'd switch from Mossy to Scythe in an instant apparently... In short, I agree; the base mossy outperforms the others when speaking about ordinary pilots. But past that I don't know. MLG "pros" made up their mind. I'm not going to argue against them, only I'll only say I don't know which one is best on the pro level. I'll agree with 99% of complainers that it has an advantage earlier than pro level, but past that I won't agree.

And the striker was just dumb. Really? Give us just another lock-on rocket launcher only it has seven of them that do 1/5th the damage of a single one? Sure, yeah. Of course it's going to be really annoying... Everyone hates lock-ons whenever they're used, not just NC and VS... But nobody was as up in arms against the phoenix which, just like the prowler, was more effective against infantry than anything in the first place...

So yeah, I agree these things were implemented dumb. And I agree before PU1 when there was that massive screen shake going on from being hit with a ton of bullets and before the TR were given massive horizontal recoil we had better weapons than the other factions. More bullets, which is TR (and VS apparently) equals massive screen shake which isn't good for NC who had some recoil issues at first. But now we complain that our weapons under-perform and everyone says "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth who cares if it's bad now; it used to be so amazing and OP before! Don't complain about it at all anymore! You TR are such big whiners! Go get a life!" Well I'm sorry that I don't think that way. I think things should always be based off of their merits NOW. NOT THEIR MERITS FROM THE PAST.

So yes. We had the most OP farming tank. It's still a little OP at farming and outperforms at range. That's what artillery is for. Complain to the devs that we got the only tank good for artillery and you guys didn't. We're just using what our tank is best at, and we expect you to do the same! I don't use HE rounds by the way, I like to try to make the Prowler work as an AV tank and use the lightning against infantry.

And true, we have the better ESF for n00bs. I'll 100% give you that. But I've seen people do amazing things with scythes and reavers, so don't tell me they're useless and the mossy is the best ever. When all the best MLG "pros" (I say that with airquotes because I don't know much about them) switch to the scythe for an air competition instead of sticking with the mossy, I'd think there's something to that. But I don't know. I'm not saying it's OP and that it should be banned and I'm not going aroud to every scythe thread and saying "stop complaining about everything that isn't working because you guys have the scythe lolololol."

And yes, we had the dumb ESRL lock-on rocket launcher that is completely dumb. I don't use the striker. I wish they had chosen something else as our ESRL that was more balanced in the first place, since lock-ons used to be instant death practically for ESF pilots, which is no longer the case. At least the phoenix was useful against infantry...

So yeah, I have plenty of complaints about what the TR have had. I don't want to play a game where I win because I have the fancy toys. I want to play a game where the winners had put more thought into it; they played better, they strategized better, they executed better. But you don't see me going into every thread that complains that the other factions have something UP and say "har har you guys have X and X so stop complaining." OR "har har this was so OP before so stop complaining." I think those are the best ways to alienate each other and destroy a good community that just wants to play the best game that this could be. So instead of looking for trouble, I try to build up the weak things among us and tear down what is too OP among us. So let us complain when it's reasonable to, and stop destroying every attempt to make what is weak better and more competitive. In other words, Stop the Nerfs, and just make things Better!!!!!

I'll just say that since the patch came out, I've also never been killed by the duster once; zephyr and dalton a few times, but I think lib crews are mostly taking advantage of the lib armor buff and other buffs rather than the new lib weapons. It seems as if the devs wanted the duster to be for low-flying/low-pass libs, as its the only situation in which its rapid-fire bloom is useful

Not quite lol, everyone already had access to the annihilator, fury, basilisk, etc. which are now comparable or superior versions of the striker/marauder/vulcan/etc. And the duster as an NS option only means that the other factions don't even have to look at it or touch it, so no one really "suffers" or gains/loses an advantage over it.
What the devs could is to perhaps tighten the CoF somewhat and mess around with the damage such that it is specialized as more of an AI option (more indirect damage, less direct?) which would make a duster lib more vulnerable against vehicular AA (and become more of a "HE" option like the three tank turret options MBTs have—except the dalton fits all three).

The biggest issue is that duster performs like a second rate zephyr, or even much like the bulldog (it may be an inferior viper), even if its "full-auto" mode is supposed to be for mass AI—the duster is a "new" weapon, but is massively outperformed by existing ones—so it pretty much has no niche. Alternatively they could make it fire multiple projectiles at once (somewhat like a shotgun); less accurate as to make it harder to land direct shots against vehicles, but more spread to take out clumps of infantry.
The only problem though would be that it might make it easier to camp infantry at the small outposts..

Those are all great suggestions. But I don't know if the last one would be so bad for small outposts. I can certainly see it as a potential issue against footzergs though, if it's effective against clumps of infantry. As for small outposts though... The only thing I could think of is a redesign to make them less open to the air, or make it so that it's easier for small bases to defend against aircraft than they currently are...
  4. Ganelon

Because SOE's balance policy is very close to the actual game balance....
  5. sustainedfire

My intentions were not to speculate and compare it to the other 2 guns that were never offered for test to the players- though I cannot imagine another ES belly gun being worse.

No one would be pleased to have this as there ES Liberator weapon, and it was specifically slated to be TRs weapon. I find that interesting, and as I titled this thread, I found it humorous.

I imagine Duster will be balanced with the next months "combat update". Though what could possibly be done to make it more appealing?
  6. Midnightmare

its just a sucky weapon indeed........to be fair all the new weapons are a waste of time and money.

The Dalton will never be beaten as it is not even if you make a minimal blast radius........ask any good gunner what he aims for.
Since you dont really kill from massive area damage. Good gunner kill from hitting inside that 1 meter hit box.

Suppose only way you could really fix it is with 2 damage types one vs tanks and one vs infantry.

the only weapon that could beat it was the shredder but the damage drop off just makes it pretty crappy.
And thats the reason its not very popular.
And seeing as a lib has to move around quite a bit an instangib or a splash damage just works out better.
