Nah you're just trying to justify something that makes no sense

no, armor throughout history has always been a balance between mobility and protection. "add more armor" has never been a good design philosophy when it comes to people on foot.

But why do Heavy Assaults have more armor then?

You're only white knighting the game's awkward visual design

What your saying that hitler's late ideas for landkruzer etc were not brilliant?
  5. Hatesphere

heavy assault is a front line class, it would only be reasonable to assume they would wear more armor then a light assult or medic...

I'm not necessarily "white knighting" anything, just your idea of sci-ci armor is just an extension of the plate and fabric armor of current times. It does not take into account something like an energy shield that would work just as effectively as modern armor deflecting more then one AR round, and likely would allow greater mobility because you wouldn't have to lug around as much armor unless you were a front line fighter (HA)

If Planetside were to follow that logic they'd have to give an option to allow the player to strip the player's character to their undies as the shield obviously makes body armor obsolete. Naked Warriors of the West! Unite!

I don't see why wearing more body armor would be a bad thing unless you'd be traveling long distances.
  7. Hatesphere

its always been a bad thing to wear more armor then you need to.

When given a choice most grunts would choose mobility and comfort over bulky armor even if it means more protection. Just look at real life, in Iraq the Marines introduced the MTV, a bulkier body armor that afforded more protection than the previous interceptor vest. Even though it was "safer" it made being in the desert that much ****tier and restricted movement and weapon handling. Big surprise we switched to just plain old plate carriers in afghanistan. So no, more armor isn't always better...looks hella cool though
  9. Redderic

Very true. An IOTV and half its attachments are heavy and restricts mobility. Add a Kevlar, your gear, your weapon, and ammo and you're slow, hot, and in a bad way. Yes, body armor absolutely saves lives, there's no doubt about that, but there is a necessary balance between protection and mobility.

I like how we use futuristic rear-view mirrors in the vehicles of PS2... oh wait...
  11. Hatesphere

I known, all we have is a third person augmented reality display, what is this, the 80s?
  12. Crayv

We don't have an interface hud that connects from our helmets to our guns. Meaning you can effectively "ADS" even if you gun isn't anywhere near your face. Wouldn't that be great to just stick your gun around a corner and be able to both see and shoot without even exposing yourself? Hell we don't even have mirrors.

Radar is virtually non-existent and actual ground based radar even less so. Then the ones that do exist still actually rotate to scan (modern phased array radar have virtually no moving parts).

The lockon weapons are extremely out of date. Modern missiles have a thermal camera that goes after the thing that looks like a plane and not just any heat source (like a flare). I'm not even going into the other tracking methods.

Almost nothing has a fire control system. No not fire as in burning , I mean fire as in a computer that calculates and basically aims for you.

    Flak guns.
Hmm, Perhaps electronic countermeasures will advance to such a level where WWII era weapons will come back in fashion.

    are you kidding me?

you take one bullet to a leg IRL and your down for the count, if you take 1 bullet to the chest itll knock the wind out of you and probably set you on your ***

in this game, you can turn on your adrenilne shield and literally mow down enemies as they come at you with out even blinking, you have shields that can take 3-4 bullets, and then it takes several bullets to kill you, the other thing you have to remember, is the reason that our soldiers are more safe today than they were before is because the enemy doesnt have a very good supply of AP rounds and we have built armor to stop AP rounds (somewhat)

tho you do have a point, physics and stuff on auraxis just doesnt make enough sense for it to be the future

Would that make it a long time ago in a galaxy far far away?

Planetside in a nutshell: Some things are more advanced than our current technology permits but most of them, however, fall far behind on any kind of futuristic time period I'd want to live in all for the sake of competitive gaming because let's face it, all of our advanced equipment is to get an edge in combat, not fair play.

Soldiers can get additional body armour - you just have to pay SC for it :p
  19. BeyondNInja

So why do headshots do more damage to shields?

idk but the esf felt like a ww1 figther if not upgraded since you need to buy everything
    which include
    ejection seat
    radar
    flare
and really the overall thing it self felt more of a flying coffin instead of a jet fighter, since all item critical to pilot safety or its usefulness is remove for balance
