How i feel about the sniper changes

It's like a train wreck in this thread.

My opinion is they should invert the changes so that you can't OSK within 150m and any headshot outside of 150m is a OSK. That being said, I find most (as in 99%) snipers to be nothing more than annoyances that don't really accomplish much. It's not necessarily their fault, but that a much longer post. I wish we had female snipers, though. There's too much testosterone in this thread without a single bastion of reason.

This has always been a option in ps2. It very hard an most people can't do it.

If sniping was what set PS2 apart from other FPS games for you, you are rocking some serious 12x tunnel vision.

Or maybe they'll just buy a different game that has better balance. Maybe they'll buy a game that doesn't change their preferred playstyle one year after release. Maybe they'll decide that they'd prefer a game that has balanced populations and they play-style they prefer.

Look, I've played less the 5% of my total time as an inf, and only just got into long-range sniping. I do more SMG inf, so in many ways this change doesn't effect my playstyle at all. In fact, not having to bother learning on how to deal with long range bullet drop and target movement prediction is easier. I can only OHK at 150m or less? Cool....those shots are easier in general to make then 200+ ones anyways.

But. But. This also goes to why I have never purchased anything from SoE and only give them my service as PvE content for the paying players. Regardless of if you agree with the change or not, this does in many ways gut the long range sniper playstyle, which was already in many cases a low-cert gain style of play. Why should I buy any weapon from SoE knowing that in any amount of time they could change it's function, or just release a better version (SMG's anyone?). Hey, it's their game..they do what they want and "balance" how they want. But I don't see this change doing anything other then driving some players away, and not attracting new ones to replace them. And since inf's also play other classes at times, that's less bodies to help.

this would make the bolt action 100% useless except for LOL I got that guy from 300m. There is zero point to fighting that far other then the LOLs. You can't kill people fast enough.
  6. ChicoFuerte

So you're saying that since they aren't balancing the game properly, you're going to take the $0 you've spent on this game elsewhere?

Noone left because of being headshot from a sniper. Please provide a link to prove that bull statement. We've proven that 2% of deaths are from snipers. At most, 5%, it's not a pandemic, stock with the dramatics you troll, you're just going to make the game worse.

Trust me, if someone left because of being 1 shot by a sniper, they would have raged about it on the forums. Since there is no rage on the forums from snipers your comment is completely invalid, irrelevant, and bias. Basically, that was a load of hyperbole (real hyperbole, not this crap you guys spread around the forums and call "hyperbole".)

The amount of players that will likely quit (Notice I said likely, since I have no data other than the word of those on the forums saying they will abandon ship) will far exceed any numbers you think would increase because of the UNNECESSARY nerf. I can't believe how big of sallies most of you men are.. "WAAH, I GOT KILLED BY A SNIPER".. Yet, all you cry babies didn't bother to make a single post about it!

I'm not. Like I said...this change doesn't affect my playstyle. In fact, it means there is no reason for me to work on trying to learn how to hit targets from farther then 150m out.

But, I do like seeing higher populations, and don't like when a game makes choices that may push players away. I don't see this change adding any players but I do see it pushing some players away. Less people does not make for a healthier game when "Size Matters",

It's only been an option for those who have adequate computers capable of performing the exploitation. Many have been having horrific framerate issues that have periodically caused their performance to tank, and without a solid and exceptional framerate...you can't successfully quickscope.

With the optimization update, and those to come, more people are going to have a superior framerate...and that means more people will be capable of exploiting the mechanic to the level that it's done within other new gen games. Except, in Planetside 2, they'll have stealth atop it.

    No,

The large scale combat was what set Planetside 2 apart from other FPS games. The problem is that they are squishing everyone closer and closer together...snipers included.

Females DO snipe.... And I am anything but useless in my squad doing so. 99% is bonkers.
  11. PapaMojo

Ahem. Please read my other posts. You'll see that that post was meant as hyperbole. I'll leave it at that.
  12. Shadowyc

If you're struck while in-scope, your aim goes off by a couple miles so you have to re-aim again. This also increases how drastically the scope sways for a shorter period than just firing, making it even more annoying.
  13. LT_Latency

Which is why you can't use long range sniper the stealth is perfect at long range. It's not perfect at closer ranges

Nothing wrong with close range fighting. You miss die, it's not easy.

This is not a console version where auto aim can be exploited and is the reason so people cry follow when it is used on the console.
  14. jak

Look bro, avatars don't necessarily equate to female. I learned that after the third time.

But let's be real, there's about a 1% chance that a BASR infil will be more useful than an SMG infil. Both in killing power and usefulness to squad level tactics.
  15. jak

Well, I more meant that the OSK should reward distance. Not totally set on it being 150m.
  16. Tenebrae Aeterna

    People do it now.

People will do it better and more often when the game runs better. It's absolutely silly to think otherwise.
  17. LT_Latency

What is your point?? On computer that guy is in real danger and he is killing people with awesome shots.

That is how I play with the sniper rifle
  18. efil4mocx

Nobody left because they've been killed by a distant sniper that one time.
  19. Tenebrae Aeterna

Take the shotgun. Increase its range. Give them stealth.

That's what you're saying is a good idea. Bolt-Action sniper rifles aren't made for run and gunning, that's why the 12x scope exists. Sniping is not a run and gun oriented profession, it's not meant to be exploited in that manner...but people came to accept it because, and I'll even admit this, it looks cool.

At this point, you might as well remove the bolt-action sniper rifles and just give Infiltrators a shotgun with increased range...that's what it is.

Shot guns have a wide blast and or a faster rate of fire, So they don't have have to aim as much. They are different.

Yeah is is ment to be used like that that is why NW5 forced you to fight inside 90m and they are changing into to inside 150.

Just because they have 12 scope doesn't mean you should use it. 12x you ARE way to far away to kill people at a good rate of speed
