I love it, in my opinion it's a great ability and I would cry if they took it away from me. I think a lot of the people who cry about it saying that it sucks just don't know how to use it properly, yes offensively against a large force it is not that great, but defensively it is amazing. Take the A point, lock down the room (the hint of how you should use it is in the name) and it becomes much harder for them to take it back. With KA4 (saving up for 5), I can easily take down two VS max's attacking at the same time, and I have NC max's stroll up to me whilst unloading in a room about the same size as a biolab teleporter room thinking "Ha, uber close range, my speciality!" before putting him down losing about a third of my health. Once, when I had an engineer hiding behind some cover, I even literally stopped an entire Max crash of about 5-6 people, just denying them the chance to get past and shoot at my engineer. I've also found that the range on the Mercies increases even further when locked down as when you burst fire, your bursts fire "quicker" slash more frequently slash less time in between bursts when the bullets are already flying out faster per burst So I'm just wondering, has anyone else found any creative uses for it besides locking down a room and AA? Most people who play this game are an intelligent bunch, so please share any smart strategies you've come up with for this awesome ability!
I sometimes glance at that free lvl 1 I've got in my loadout screen, think about equipping it, think again and decide I'll go with Charge anyways.
The way I see it, charge is only really good for kamikaze charging the enemy which is suicidal (im not a member so those 350 resource points are valuable to me), or getting out of a tight spot which if you have lockdown you usually wont need to do anyway. its weak to vehicles obviously but i try to stay indoors whenever possible
Charge is amazingly useful for escaping or closing a gap. Especially considering how often you need to run back to a supply point when there aren't engies around.
You don't.Charge is a better ability every day of the week. Lockdown has it's uses against ground(Fractures) and air(Bursters) venicles, but either way I still quite dislike it - Shredder lib will kill your Lockdown max even before you manage to use your faster reloads, while standing stationary against a tank zerg makes you an easy target for the high velocity rounds of the NC Vanguards.Lockdown against infantry is pure suicide, you just beg for a Decimator in the face or a C4 from LA fairies once the enemy knows you're there.
Pounders and lock down, kill any sundy in LOS before they even know whats happening. well okay it takes a bit to range find properly on far away sundies. But seriously, lockdown with the AI weapons is meh, you put em on the AV though, and you are a beast amoung beasts. Just as a reference, using old numbers (but when they changed numbers they said they kept the AV aspects) prowler heat has about ~630 dps, dual punders have ~850. Anchor mode prowler heat has about 950. I have no idea how much dps lockdown pounders sport, but its a very noticeable increase, and their starting value is CRAZY high. I have little doubt that lockdown pounders have the absolute highest AV DPS available to a single player, the only things that might beat it lib cannons, and I doubt they do (though they beat pretty much everything else, air gets the best guns in the game)
I can usually kill the heavies that come up with their rocket launchers armed before they can line me up, unless they're just shooting wildly at the wall behind me hoping to hit me. Skilled players can take me out though. As for fairies, they aren't a problem if you know where to put yourself. Always, always back to a wall, preferably a corner, with no entrances behind you. It takes too long for them to place the brick and then detonate it before they die (something which I actually privately complain about since LA is my go-to class when I'm not sure what the situation is) I don't like charge because as I said, resources actually matter to me, so I don't like just running in and outgunning everyone. I'd much rather pop out of cover, kill one maybe two, and then retreat and repeat
I kind of wish that they make max abilities NS. I want to try Lockdown with Slugged Hacksaws, and i guess TR's can try closing the distance with the Aegis shield.
Me, L3 Lockdown, L4 Auto-repair, Stay in a spot where alot of TRs are passing by, hopefully you kill any glowing heavies before they retreat and switch to their dumbfire rockets, Maybe stand 20~30m away from any door where enemies are bound to come in, BRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT Away.
well yeah, but pounders are distinctly at the top of that particular heap dps in order (from pre PU2, but they should still be accurate as far as effective dps goes) 850 Pounders 820 Vortex-1 739 Falcons 690 Comets 632 Ravens 630 Fractures 560 vortex-3 535 vortex-2 thats for a pair of em by the by
Dual Bursters with extended magazines and max lockdown: I'm worth 2 maxes! Fractures: you are just asking for AP rounds on your face. Pounders: not good at long range. And you don't want to stand still at close range, do you?
All max AV sucks to be hit by but ravens suck the most.. You just cant avoid them if they are somewhat competent and they seem to be used the most. The vortex could be scary, I know because I used to use them a lot but I never see anyone using these things the right way. The only time I notice a vortex max it is because there are a whole bunch of laser trails leading all the way around me with only one or two actually hitting me for piss all damage.
I've only really used lockdown with Bursters in a safe area (away from shredder/bombers, shredders will kill you in less than a second). Fractures are frustrating to use at long range as it is, and make you a giant stationary target for an AP vanguard to kill you in one hit. The AI weapons will make you decimator bait. Not a good idea to use unless you're in a position like this: I've only done this once but it was satisfying when it worked: ninja my way around a base to get behind a sunderer and lockdown with pounders: it'll be dead in about 15 seconds
Lockdown is AV for me. I find pounders to be THE go-to weapon for range. Sure Fractures are more accurate. But pounders have so much versatility it's nuts. Lockdown pounders give you best bang for buck with LOS. Without lockdown you can hit targets who are outside of your LOS. Meaning they have to find you first. You're a one-machine mortar team. That being said I have found that in AI setup it does bring the dakka. But that is only if you can find a position that lets you either get the drop on the enemy, or keeps you from getting dropped. Two engineers repairing you does help. Charge and Nano repair are really nice when going mostly lone wolf. My go-to. But when part of a team, I'm more and more inclined to go with the lockdown. Lock down with kinetic armor and just unload into a skatmax's face. When it starts to reload, uproot and walk right up to it's face. Even with the shield you'll rip it's head off.
TR MAX OP pls neffet At least you have a somewhat useful ES ability there! Unlike some alien tech worshippers we know.
