how do sensor darts work (if at all)

having played the infiltrator a lot I have not really had a single use for the sensor darts.

more than once I have fired the sensor darts into groups of people they don't seem todo anything.?

    are they totally useless ?

They make enemy movement show up as "Blips" on your radar. It's really good to know if someone is coming up on you or using it to see where enemies are moving so you can come up on them.
  3. Elack

ok so shooting one into a group does not spot or put any of them on the minimap unless they move ? is it worth certing into ?
  4. SharpLight

They never worked for me, just today I made a recording that proves it.

  5. Cymoril

Do u ever get more than 2 ? It should be a common weapon that can be reloaded or have a CD that you can lower with cert purchases. This way infils with SMGs and moving radar could be nasty!
  6. Rhyl

Sometimes around that area in the crown there is literally no movement. I have stealthed past there, into the "garage" and up to the turrets from that direction many times. To answer the other guy's question.. honestly I don't care to cert into it for more. Two is usually good enough. The Darts are better (imo) as a CQC Infiltrator. As it has helped me a ton and yes it only works if there's movement.

To be honest for me they're complete **** and have no use at all I have sensor dart 2 not wasting any more certs on them.

    That's how they work:

    1. They notify all the enemies of your presence by emitting loud sounds.
    2. They show their location to enemies with a huge lightbulb.
    3. They scan a small area and sometimes show you enemies who move.
    4. They disappear pretty quickly.
  9. SharpLight

So you didn't watch the video, just replied without watching, why not! There was a guy in the middle of the circles and he was MOVING.

Their only real usefulness, in my opinion, is for long range snipers. Anytime I snipe the same unit several times or that I get "spotted" by another unit, inevitably, a light assault will come hunt me down. I have used these to see threats coming from a ways away.

They are almost useless in bases because there units spawn right next to you, buildings obscure the mini map, and they are loud.

So yea, I have specced into them. But they aren't the best use of your certs. Get them very last and only if you want to upgrade your infiltrator all the way.
  11. Elack

well I shot one into the middle of a group (why I made this post) only 1 dot showed up and it wasn't moving It stayed on the minimap for maybe 10 seconds or so

edit:also I think the certs as well as giving you an additional dart also increase the range but I have not seen the default one working
  12. Dubious

    They are useless
They would be useful, if they lasted until destroyed or you place another one
Cert should be so you can place 1, 2 or 3 darts at same time

The sensor dart itself is very helpful and useful. The problem is not the darts, it's the minimap: since it's not zoomable nor scalable in most of cases players are just unable to see those red blips. I've opened a thread about this issue here:
    http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/zoomable-minimap-with-and.91922/#post-1210512

Then ranking this tool to the highest level requires an insane amount of cert points.
  14. drNovikov

Darts are useful when you are standing on the point, near an ammo box and provide a radar coverage for your team, scanning enemy spawn and the area around the capture point.

Otherwise they are actually harmful because they notify enemies of your presense. Developers really hate the only class which is supposed to rely on brains instead of mouse clicking.

Anyone wondering why sensor darts are not working: They dont work on long ranges, you need to be inside the scanning radius to have them show enemies. I´ve got fully certed that tool, which gives me 5 darts and a longer scanning time and faster rate. I just coulndt play the class anymore wihtout it, knowing where your enemy is moving is a huge advantage and in the right environment you can ambush just anyone. When I´m out of darts I feel like Im naked.

However, its not so useless in big facilities or in towers and because the minimap is full of everyhting else... I´d certainly would like to be able to zoom the minimap as much as I want, so that every single icon wouldn´t conceal the the whole map.

If you are using an SMG they are massively usefull.
The problem is people use them wrong.. and use rank 1.
I myself have fully maxed out recon darts and they are great. I take over bases, plop down a recon dart and for the duration of taking over (max rank lasts really long and big area) i can see any enemy run towards me, giving me time to hide and know exactly where they are.
Though less usefull during massive zergs, its great at small party operations.

One of the most underestimated things in the game

If you want to go and clear a house, they tell you how many and where the enemies are. Sadly, as already stated here, the lack of zoom on the mini map makes them harder to use.
Also, I don't really know if they sometimes randomly break or if I just don't understand their workings entirely.
  18. Ravenorth

Never had any issues, you just need to know that you need to be inside the scanning area, or it wont work and it also shows only moving enemies. You wont be able to spot someone who is camping in the corner of building without moving(he can still look around with his mouse though)
  19. m44v

First time I heard that, I'm pretty sure you don't need to be in the scanning area. Enemies must be moving though.

??? in your video there's a blip right before you close the minimap.
  20. Ravenorth

It is necessary, at least you need to be very close to the scanning are, not maybe inside, but near the edges. I´ve tested it numerous times by shooting a dart in area, which I know is 100% highly infested of enemy forces.
