how did you come to fall in love with PS2

a resent tread made me think back to the early days of PS2
it was the moment i felt in love with it so i wanted to start this tread

for me it was the big fights that lasted for days
fighting over a base almost impossible to capture, mostly it was the crown
after a day of fighting we logged back in and yes the fight was still there, massive game play with hundreds of players on this one base
never had i seen a game with this kind of fighting so i was nabbed by this game

me as a TR BR20 thinking i was the man cause i reached a high level (LOL)
in my defense you could fight all day with only seeing two or three BR100's and those where kings of the game in my eye

we did fight day after day over the crown cause who ever owned it was the master of the map
until we logged in one day and vanu did take the crown ( it was always those vanu)
alien spandex wearing bastards so the fight continued over the crown
who ever owned the crown made sure the other factions know they are the map masters over chat with a lot of insults to the inferior empires

now this is a small part of how i did fall in love with PS2 (did not want to make this to long)
let us know your moment when you turned to the PS2 religion :D

I think I fell in love when I saw my first foot zerg. As inefficient as it may be, seeing 2+ platoons of foot soldiers hoofing it is a sight to behold.

I instantly loved PS1 in 2003. So when i heard about PS2, i just automatically loved it no questions asked.

I think what i really love is the general concept of a MMOFPS.
PS2 is pretty much the only option out there when it comes tot he MMOFPS genre.

I walked into the games room of my house and my roomate was playing the game, I saw shooter and he said it was an mmo, I then spent an insane amount of time learning how to play.

    Probably forming my outfit (Kamizake)

We spent a good hour harassing a sunderer that was sitting on a mountain over an indar base

Fly by crash the galaxy into it and attempt to C 4 it

Eventually it was destroyed but the experience changed the way we play the game
  7. Demigan

That and just the massive fights.

Same here. And that day I learned footzerging TI alloys from Ceres (uphill, very little cover) was a bad bad idea. But hell that was EPIC!

The gaming squad/clan/whatever I was with were playing it, and I had a potato PC. I tried it and I was getting something like 3 FPS so I uninstalled it. At the time we were playing other games but they all fizzled out and it was pretty much PS2 all the time and I felt left out.

I finally got a rig that could play it and loved it but also hated it. I loved the graphics and the big fights etc but I hated that I was such a noob that kept dying and had no clue what to do. Squad leader would say 'go overload the generator' and I was like 'huh?'. Fortunately there were a couple of guys that helped me through the early days, plus I just got the feeling that it was worth persevering even though after most sessions I felt like quitting.

I like the fact that the same battles over and over again can still be different.

I really like the fact you can do anything you want, when you want, and in any way you want. As far as a game goes, it has a huge amount of freedom.

PS2 is unique that way, and it is clear a LOT of people are freaked out by that and cannot handle it. Instead of turning on their brain and figuring out how to use that freedom, (and overcome obstacles), they want everything on a low-IQ rail laid out for them like a freaking mobile phone game. These people, literally, cannot think, so they want everything nerfed to their "level of dumbness or stupidity."

Unlike other games where everyone is running in the same direction doing the same thing, when I come over a ridge and suddenly see a large landscape, with lots of people running around and everyone is doing something different, it is a sight to behold. I quite like that.

As another poster said, seeing 100+ players, and 20 - 30 vehicles all fighting together, while each player is doing independent things is quite fun. Large scale battles baby. Enjoy.

I was in a big battle one day at the crown my team asked to re deploy so we can make a big attack with the galaxys and so we did we all grouped up at the warp gate the battle was raging and the guns blazing you couldnt run and you couldnt hide, and as we were going closer to the crown of our indar i was listening to this soundtrack
when we were taking AA fire and everybody had to jump down to a blazing ground full of soldiers and then i just took a look up in the sky and saw the true beauty of planetsides war

The sky was on fire with the AA the ground was living hell from the tank shells but nobody run back everybody fought hard and won the crown,it was the time that i just loved this game

yes the good old days dying 10 times before you get to the top only to kill one or two guys
i would have liked to see the K/D junkies of today play in that time

is it not unfortunate to talk of nostalgia after only three years of PS2
still loving the game but in a other way

I have never watched this trailer. I just got goosebumps, awesome cinematic. Was waiting for the stalkers to show up at the end, lol.

For me, I got lucky. My first trip out of Koltyr, I ended up on a very newly unlocked continent, and the whole parade of skywhales was just about ready to take off from the warpgate. It was a full out tech-plant assault (didn't know what a tech plant was) but we got air dropped in by about 12 galaxies, with armor already in the area working on each other. I had never seen or heard of anything quite like it in a game, flying in with a birds eye of the armor and ground battle - and then boom, I'm dropping in and I'm IN the battle.

Felt kind of like the first time drop from Edge of Tomorrow. I was hooked.

Mostly the VS community on Waterson(the Vanu Alliance) and my first outfit(Sentinels, now inactive) were really what made me love the game. Coming from playing battlefield 3 at the time when PS2 was in beta --I was in ADK actually for their BF3 division-- I was blown away by the game and the coordination between so many players. Not because it was polished or a AAA title, but the concept of it, the scale, the possibilities, really impressed me.

I could easily see even back then the potential for this game, theres nothing like it in the gaming market in terms of massive scale.

My second day on Auraxis, I had just started my tenth grade finals that Monday. Got home, made my first TR character, joined some random platoon who pushed down from CrossRoads to Tawrich, my first glimpse at a tech plant building, the sheer size of it (I'll be completely honest I have never seen a skyscraper in my entire life from the ground floor) and thought to myself "damn and this is only a tiny little part of this world, this game is awesome!" and I was hooked into playing every single day for the next six months.

When I first started playing, I sucked: like, legitimately sucked. I almost never aimed down sights unless I was sniping, so I couldn't figure out why my K/D at the time was around 0.3 on my first character (NC). Then people showed me the ropes, and I got better, so much better.

This game... you can do so much to achieve an objective, in incredibly crazy ways.

Enemies blasting at everyone from atop a mesa? Take a galaxy or ESF and scrape them off the top like a giant piece of sandpaper.

Enemy tanks a problem? Suicide C4 flash runs.

Enemy liberator getting really low and strafing? Get an ESF, strap 2 C4 to the cockpit, and kamikaze-ram that sucker into a tree or biolab struts after jumping out and detonating.

Foot zergs? Run them over with tanks.

It's just... this game, for all it's flaws, it is simply amazing, unlike anything else out there. I legitimately feel ill if I don't play this for some time, or at least try to.

My first big fight on PS2 was a massive three-way battle for the crown while my VS was in possession of it. The intensity of the battle is what really got me hooked.
  20. MikeyGeeMan

I spawned in jumped in a gal at the wg

Dropped on a point , held it and only stopped playing when I didn't have my PC setup for a few months.
