How are we liking directives?

Just curious how the rest of the infiltrator forums are feeling about directives and the rewards. I'm still mildly upset with the lack of a scout rifle as a reward for the scout rifle tree, and I'm working through the Force Recon tree to get my knife right now, since I need individual headshots and kills not ribbons.

Haven't even looked at those, spent all night Wraith-bombing tanks. 50 Nanite C4+timerless Flash=fun times.

so far so good. Agree with the scout rifle thing - everyone who left feedback on that issue felt the same way but the devs put it in as is anyways. They might change it in the future, but I have a feeling they just were too busy to go back and undo it.

Working on that knife reward. It's going to take a bit of time based on where I am at and where I need to be. I like having something to work for.

Scout rifle auraxium is rather silly, But we did get two other auraxium variants (SMGs and Snipers), so they have some time to fix it. :p Otherwise directives were pretty much guaranteed to be a good update and I'm happy to have a whole host of things to work towards. Auraxium SMGs and Bolt-Actions are pretty sweet, they're definitely all making it into my list of weapons to use beyond auraxiums. Just waiting for SOE to make it so we can swap out the scopes on them.

I'm loving the Moonshot. 7x scope is perfect for me. If anything, the longer ranges at which I'm detected when I'm firing draw them to me. Just need to keep moving. I played a bit with the Tempest SMG, but not enough to decide if I like it or not. Also need to decide if I araxium the magshot or the Executive first.

Also... Is it worth going through flare gun and snow ball gun araxium medals for the black camo? Probably not, but let's hope I don't run out of things to do in planetside. Would need to get my hands on one of those gold pistol codes anyways.

Overall good patch (for me).I never run out of mines or EMPs and I can pull a Wraith Flash whenever I want.

from the point of view of a new player (1 month since i play) i like the class directives, good desing, realistic objetives.

Weapon directives they went to far away. farming 5 diferent weapon whit similar gameplay just to have a new1 thats bearly better, no thx. I would love if they ineasted of give u a new weapon that almost worth no effort to get it, the chance of improving a weapon u allrdy have.

Lets say for example once u get the directive u can improve 1 weapon u have of that class directive, lets say pharallax u get a faster muzle speed from a v10 u get less bullet drop, for the phaseshift u get more OHK range and such. Whit this kind of reward at least u have a little more diversity and not a stale gameplay whit all having the same freaking weapon. :S

It counted virtually none of my kills for any of my characters for anything, so...pretty slow.

A pity all those previous scout rifle and sniper rifle kills are not counted for the Infiltrator directive.

I'm hoping that's something they'll fix in the upcoming hotfix. I mean, how hard is it to add up the kills you got with each sniper rifle and realize that those must be "sniper rifle kills"?

The whole point is to retain the high BR players, since SOE completely failed to attract a steady influx of new players.

Last month's streamers' gig on Emerald was a marketing disaster.

No kidding - not that i'm complaining about killing more people to earn some awards :) But having over 60000 sniper rifle kills and seeing that category empty feels kind of silly.

Yeah, Moonshot seems super solid. I'm personally fine with the 7x as well since I usually use an 8x, so it's not a big difference. But I do like options, and I really want a 3.4x on the tempest.

Worth going through the flare gun and snowball for the black? Hell no. You only need 5 auraxiums with exceptional weapons and those two are easily the worst of the lot and they'll keep adding more in the future. Personally I'd look for the decent weapons which I can pay for or for promotions that they're throwing around instead of cuaisng needless frustration. I picked up the gold pistols recently due to someone snagging a code for me at a promotion and I got the gold SMGs by buying the box edition.

    I wish we could use c4 :(
  14. Rift23

Switch to class that has C4, stick on Wraith Flash, switch back to infiltrator. As long as you don't die the C4 stays put. Use a Fury to trigger the C4 with splash damage when you ram something. If you have friends, tell them to stack it on until you've got a land-based invisible nuke--what Sundy shield?

I have no time to work towards anything - other than work right now! :D

I'm wary about a snipe rifle that pings the user out to 150m.. Just from that I'm probably not going to go out of my way to chase auraxium for this directive anytime soon. But I've always been more a semi-auto user anyway, so not a big sell for me.

I'm am kind of bummed out over the scout rifle reward. I mean give than 3 out of the 4 weapons in this category are infiltrator only it feels weird to get a reward I can't even use on my class, even if it is something interesting for my engi.

Looks like as far as my infi is concerned I'll be putting in more SMG and Stalker time to fill out those directives. The SMG actually sounds like something I'd like in particular since I'm always wanting to ADS regardless of what weapon I'm using. (which is also why I need to buy more shotguns for my LA =P and auraxium them. smart choke FTW)

Some of the directives are fine, but others are not. For the weapon classes that have lower count of weapons, like Scout Rifle, Shotgun, SMG if you want to complete the tree you need 5 weapons and there are not 5 types of that weapon so you are forced to buy the black or gold version of a weapon you already had to buy. This is a dick move in the extreme because (and yes that is a totally appropriate word for this use) because if you want to complete your forced to buy something that is twice the cost and all you really get is a gun camo. That is all it is really. I don't mind cosmetic things but the gold and black weapon camos should be under their own Weapon Camo section. Realize ONLY if you want to use them does it show up. If you change camo so would your weapon so it adds another weapon camo choice that is it. Now, for other weapon categories you don't need to do that like Assault Rifle so what should happen is to complete the tree instead of requiring 5 weapons for that tree it should only require 4 weapons or 3 weapons for Scout Rifles.

The other thing I don't like, though it is not as big of a dick move, is the fact that as a reward I get a weapon which I was forced to get, like the Erdani. You get as your reward a special Erdani. Say you owned the other SMGs and did not want to buy it and thus if you then did earn the special Erdani it is a REAL sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Being forced to get it, to simply get a reskin and whatever else it is slightly modified to do is NOT a real reward. It is like saying "I bought you some candy kids" and you find out its those candy marshmellow peanuts or some other nasty candy and you say 'yeah thanks'. There is this little part of that kid that dies inside as their joy deflates.

I like the directives, but these aspects of them are really not just simply not good, but are insulting and bad design. There I said it.

To me, one of them might be something I want, but easily the other is not. I really do not care if I complete the SMG tree. Sure it is nice and is frustrating if I complete it and don't simply because I refuse to buy a black Erdani or one of the other type of weapons.

Which brings me to this topic:

What is the deal with black and gold weapons. I don't play, nor really want to play PS3's Black Ops but on that game, and others I've seen I get that gold weapons are like a little 10 year old boys 'coolbeans' type of reward. But i think there are a lot of us out there who are like 'so what'. Sure it has an appeal but the way I see the pricing they feel it is like crack or something and you 'must buy'. No, it is a gimmick. I say have it in the game, but like Liberfiber lights on your tank, its merely cosmetic and it is a very minor cosmetic. There is zero status to buying if you did buy it. I doubt anyone feels your 'so cool' because of it. So it only a purely personal aesthetic descision. I just am a bit bewildered as to why it is something that is thought so necessary and desirable.

By the way I do have room to talk because I do own a lot of the weapons that I bought with real SC. So I put my money where my mouth is, but even at half off, I cannot see myself wanting to buy the black version of the Barron shotgun as I already own it, and I am quite happy I did. It is a great shotgun. If I buy it, I will feel like you feel after someone bullied you to do something and the game should not make me feel that way just to complete a directive. I am a member, and thus I do get discounts and I appreciate that very much. I do make good use of it but I also have bought things without any discount as actually some of the weapons are well worth it. I have zero regrets buying, say, my Lasher or my X-bow, None at all and I bought them at full price, but I would have a real agnst about buying a gun that cost me 1800 SC just to get a gold skin for the weapon. It is not like I get it for the character, just that one little weapon.

I'm sure I'm not alone in how I feel, and I'm sure my opposite exist who thanked the golden and black gods when those options were added, but more than likely those people are in a small minority.

Put another way. I like spending money on SC, just not in some way I feel forced to, and for something I already own. I'd rather buy the Halberd for my Harasser which I don't own yet, or spend it on cosmetic options for my vehicles. You can do a lot with 1800 for cosmetics for a vehicle. To me, thought is pure fluff and not-needed, it is neat and I would rather spend my money on that. I know I can and the gold/black weapons will still exist, the problem is when I face being forced to buy them to complete the directive. So I am not saying remove them from the game, nor change their cost. Keep them there. You will always find people who really want that. More power to them, just don't force me to join their ranks please.

As a compromise, can you simply keep the black and gold which I think should be a weapon camo you buy. Make it like 1200 for gold and 900 for black SC and it would apply to any weapon. It is not then another type of weapon, just a camo skin. Another option and probably would be one that would give you a lot of kudos is offer a black weapon as a reward for completing the Directive Tree as an alternative to the one that is normal. Give them a choice. Some will want that choice. Then, if they complete it a second time (yes going through the entire thing again) Give them a choice of getting the Gold weapon. If gold is such a big deal. That way, it is possible to earn a gold or black weapon but requires a lot of effort, and since your giving up your special Kraken or whatever other weapon you could have gotten and just getting a black or gold weapon in its place, if that person really loves it. Let them choose that. I'm all about giving players choice, and I'm sure 99% of the players out there are in agreement over that. They like choices.

Thank you for reading my rant, and I do love this game. I do appreciate having directives in the game, and other than issues like this I really don't complain about anything. Like the Valkyrie, I'm sure eventually it will get worked out but an issue like the one I am bringing up I don't feel would change unless someone eventually brought it up. As far as the Valk goes, I just think adding the Cloak option as one of the Utility slots for it would be nice. It cannot fire, nor anyone on it, while cloaked, and if it might be a bit OP, make the cloak costly to buy as you level it, or make it not last as long, but having it on the Valk might be a really good way to add that special something to it that I think all players of each faction would like since it is something all factions can get.

I enjoyed getting Aurax on all the sniper rifles.

    Bighorn.50 is a nice weapon.

Wish it'd had a unique sound effect though to fit it's description. "The deafening crack of the Bighorn is a warning to distant soldiers"

I'm not even close to mastering the directives.
I'm so far from the goal that I'm not even gonna bother trying :D

nah dude they're pretty easy if you're consistent just finished the prowler directive which was a massive pain because it forced me to play with the marauder (eww). Actually kinda excited to focus on the weapon/class directives now. (and the fact that i can go back to plt leading (its hard to do that from a prowler imo, not enough situational awareness))
