Sounds like ghost capping to me. The enemy shows up in force? Just redeploy to an empty base. Friendly pop goes below 60%? Just redeploy to the nearest 90% zergball. :p

Realistically, in a solid back and forth fight it is not possible to always hold the initiative 100% of the time. Saying that you should is like saying in football (either type) your team should always have the ball. It'd be nice (for your team's score, not so much for fun or the audience), but it's not going to happen.

You aren't going to win many football games if you have no defense. It is true that the point of defense is to break the enemy's momentum and re-seize the initiative for your offense (in football terms, to get the ball back), but that doesn't mean defense is pointless or useless. Far from it.

Sure, you get the ball back every time the other team scores, that doesn't mean that letting the other team score should be your go-to strategy for getting the ball. ;)

That said, spawn rooms have nothing to do with defense. Arguably they are detrimental to defense in many cases because their artificial safety makes it easy to get bottled up and trapped. You can defend just fine without spawn rooms as long as you are backed up by good logistics. You can defend a god-forsaken barren hill in the middle of nowhere all day so long as you have good logistics. Good logistics also allows your defense to be more flexible and capable of shifting gears into offense once the enemy's momentum has been broken.

Though in PS2 currently, the closest you can get to "good logistics" is "lots and lots of Sunderers".

You want to use Football? Alright.

In Football, the team that only tries to stop forward movement, does not get the ball until scored on. The point of defense in Football is to get the ball back as soon as possible. You sack that quarterback enough, they will lose yardage and force a punt. If you only stop them from forward movement. You may just allow them to have a field goal, which means you're down 3 points you didn't have to be.

Then you have interceptions and fumbles you can cause. But now we're getting into your idea of logistics. Staying flexible. Defense by its very nature is not flexible. Having good logistics means you can switch from holding a point, and deploying out and attacking when the enemy is weak. Its like when Micheal Vick tried to pretend to be a running back a couple of years ago and got sandwiched by two defending players. They put pressure on him, led him into a trap and punished that dog killing SOB with a nice injury that put him out for the rest of the season. Point is, the pushed the initiative.. even if they weren't on offense.

As I said before, you only hold a base long enough to push forward. Bases are merely a means of blocking LOS and providing dangers to an enemy so that you can group up and attack. No one has ever done that sitting in a spawn room. Well you know, you said it yourself.

You still seem to be stuck on the idea that defense=spawn rooms. As long as you believe that, you will never understand what defense is, or what constitutes defensibility.

There's a time to push, there's a time to dig in and hold the line. And if the line holds successfully then you'll get a chance to break out and push again.

If everyone is just pushing where opposition is weakest and nobody is trying to halt an enemy push, you're just ghost capping.

I cannot deny that you are an asset to your team with your full on attacking mind set. You exude confidence and nothing will stop you unless they take you down first. And then you will be right back into the fray sowing the seeds of your doom. Attacking is all you know. Even if you are "defending" a base that is yours, you will be on the attack, each and every time.

But, what I do not seem to be able to get through to you; this is a big game. Not everyone has, or needs to have the same attitude as you. They do not even have to give a reason for the way they play. If they are holed up in a spawn room, so what? Why does it matter to anyone?

I've now got well over a thousand hours in on this game. I've spent a lot of time in spawn rooms. I've watched the behaviour of others, partly because I find it interesting. What I have found is this; there are Spawn Room Warriors, those that prefer to take pot shots from within the safety of the spawn. And why not?

As an example, one of my favourite "tasks" from within the spawn room was to countersnipe enemy snipers that were sitting at a long range. In one way, I was doing something for the "team" by taking out lone snipers that were taking out allies. But I would also do this outside of the spawn room if it I needed a better vantage point.

Back to the Spawn Room... There are then peeps who are not exactly Spawn Room Warriors as such, but have been pushed back to spawn by the enemy (more than likely armour and air). We all know that there are other options to just sitting in the spawn room, but some peeps, very likely not part of a squad, decide to sit there until the cap timer reaches 12 seconds. So what? Why does it matter?

If they are depriving you of your lust to fight and kill, deploy somewhere else yourself. Don't wait until the base finally flips to your faction. Look at the map. Spawn, with your four man Outfit, to a place where there are peeps willing to meet you head on.

Bottom line is, at the end of the day, there are many ways to play this game. So many ways. Your way is just one way. Perhaps a majority of players think, and play the same as. You will enjoy each other’s company I am sure. But that does not mean that everyone has to play your way.

As for me... I am enjoying my "Skill Suit" at the moment. You will not find me in the Spawn Room very often and I'll be helping here and there with AI/AT/AA duties with my certed up MAX. Once I get bored with that I will go back to sniping again, either inside or outside of spawn.

But whatever I do will be of no concern of yours.
