I was goofing around and discovered this, when I fire in first person against a ally, I miss, but when I change CAMERA, I can hit him. I am NOT moving my character at all. am just changing the camera, and my hit detection is different, I don't know if it this intentional or not. Video:
Welcome to the wonderful world of SOE... Where hit detection is calculated client-side, crosshairs are irrelevant to where you're firing and no consistency in weapon aim between first and third person... This just screams incompetent design, just like the range markers in vehicles doesn't really mean a specific distance, they're just there to "look cool".
This effect is due to the offset position of the main gun. When firing in third person the gun fires in parallel to what would be the LoS from the cockpit. When in first person it fires non-parallel, intersecting the LoS on the object the cross hairs are focussed on. Pretty rubbish mechanic, but it fixes the offset issue with the crosshairs in most cases.
