    It is kinda funny because current American politics shows why the corporate-populist alliance of the NC simply wouldn't work for very long.

    Say what you will about candidate Trump, but he does represent a populist "everyman" streak among Republicans in America. And one that is highly opposed to the corporation-allied Republican candidates who have fallen so far.

    The same is true for the Democratic candidates. Sanders is out to wrangle Wall Street necks, while Hillary is deep in their pockets.

    When you see the same phenomenon on both the left and the right in the USA, it's pretty clear that the NC would never last beyond a few years. Corporate interests are just incompatible in the long run with populist causes.

    Not sure...

    America has a large standing army, which screams more TR than NC. Sure America is also bombastic and wants bigger guns for everything like the NC so I guess they are tied.
    Europe... I don't think any team is like Europe. Europe doesn't have a large standing army from what I know of Europe. Even when all those armies are combined they aren't extremely large. In most conflicts today America supplies the brute strength, the large forces that do the 'everyday' military stuff. Europe usually doesn't supply as much manpower, but European armies from what I know are more highly trained. Europe sends the experts rather than the brute strength and force of numbers.

    I think I would rate them as follows:
    NC = America, big slogans, big guns, lots of soldiers, no Geneva convention (just think about that for a second, America is one of the very few countries in the world that doesn't sign the Geneva conventions... And it probably has a good reason not to)
    TR = Russia, if it works, why change? They used versions of the AK as weaponry for decades, they maybe changed to a different standard weapon only 5 years ago? They also have the manpower to throw against stuff, and when you add historical references WWII for instance is a prime example of "throw as many people against it until they succeed".
    VS = either Europe or some of the Asian countries. Although a country like Israel wouldn't be far from the tree as well. High tech armies? Check. Indoctrination and propaganda? Check (anyone who thinks that Europe, Asia or Israel use any less propaganda than America, Russia or even ISIS do are sorely mistaken). Think they are the pinnacle of sophistication balanced against freedom of expression? Check.

    Although sometimes we wish we hadn't, the US has actually signed all four Geneva Conventions and has agreed to Protocol III as well. It's only not a party to Protocol I and II, and those we signed but failed to ratify in Congress.

    Not sure where you picked up that we weren't a party to the GC... all UN members from North Korea to the UK are parties to the GC.

    We've also been using the "same" infantry rifle for the last 50+ years as well. ;) Most people don't know that the M16 was also designed as a "conscript rifle" (the Vietnam era).

    I'm pretty sure that in WWII the US also employed overwhelming force where possible, and certainly we didn't enter the war with the highest quality toys.

    I saw it on an extra-credits episode, that's why I used "from what I know". I generally consider them to do some good research but I never looked it up.

    Edit:
    Well it seems it doesn't matter much when I read it...
    Protocol I and protocol II have some valuable additions. Things like not being allowed to attack places of worship, destroy places that contain dangerous forces (water dams, nuclear power stations etc), the indiscriminate attack of women, children, civilian medical personel and food and water designated for civilians. The list continues, America would basically be allowed to conscript children under 15 and they can use weapons that cause superfluous injury or uncessecary suffering.

    Basically as long as you were fighting America and you were incapable of continueing the fight because you are shipwrecked/incapacitated/captured/in occupied territory you are safe and protected. As long as you aren't in America occupied territory (you know, a territory they are attacking) or captured by America they are allowed to use any weapon and attack anything they please, from a mosk or church to the nuclear powerplant located right next to a city. As long as they first neatly declared war of course...
    Of course I have no idea what it means that they did sign protocol I and II but aren't really part of protocol I and II. What gives? If one part of their governing body signed it but the other part doesn't recognize it or even veto it, the signing becomes worthless right? If they really wanted they could sign up and be part of it right now couldn't they? Yet they don't. Why specifically protocol I and II?

    TR = Rules and order
    NC = Money and Freedom
    VS = Technology and advancement

    All 3 have bonuses and drawbacks VS are practically a cult but they want to advance the human race NC want less rules but want to let corporations control everything and the TR want to retain the way of the republic (aka earth the TR have elected leaders) but have put in ridiculous rules to "protect" people.

    Probably because of the ambiguity associated with the US and the GC. Not going to lie, we bend the rules and break them when needed (definition of 'need' varies, but usually its in favor of saving lives, even if its not the 'enemy's'). When I went through Basic and AIT, we did very little on the Geneva and Hague Conventions. There was way more emphasis on the Code of Conduct (basically don't surrender, don't give info when captured, and try to escape whenever possible), and the Rules of Engagement.

    ROE is usually more strict than the GC. Usually. Sometimes its about the same. And well.. sometimes its more lenient. To be honest, we're slightly hypocritical when it comes to War Crimes. But then again we have to be honest with ourselves.. The victors of any conflict always are. Don't lose.

    The United Nations Security Council is supposed to oversee this sort of stuff. But as you can see from thise excerpt from wikipedia about it:

    Basically means the offenders punish themselves. The Geneva and Hague Conventions along with the Rules of War and International Law sound great on paper. In practice they are there to make the victims of attrocities feel better about the future. And not much else.

    Global Politics are nasty to say the least. You might think our current elections are bad with name calling and such (hah nothing compared to how it was in the 1790-1860s, with people accusing others of being hermaphrodites and committing bestiality). But global stuff is downright lethal and destructive, and in some cases genocidal. The unfortunate fact is that it is still Might Makes Right.

    TR = China
    NC = Israel

    Well it might surprise you - EU has 1.5m active military personnel, very similar to USA. However they don't spend anywhere near as much money ! And there's no way the EU force would act 'as one' - it would be like trying to herd cats.

    All of which pales into insignificance compared to China - with well over 2m (probably very many more but who can tell).

    But for me:

    TR - Federation
    NC - Klingon
    VS - Dr Who
