I am about to perform an upgrade on my computer and I am in doubt which processor to buy to play Planetside 2 in high.

I wonder if there is big difference in performance between acquiring a core i5-4690k relative to core i7-4790k to play Planetside 2? I will also acquire a GTX 970.

Currently my processor is a 2-Duo E6750 core.

you can play every game on high with the i5-4690
if you want to be 4k ready then you will need the i7

no big difference between the two for planetside unless you don't plan on overclocking. then the 4790k is faster.

Probably would see a little difference between the i7 and i5. But only between like 150 and 220 FPS +-20FPS. Video card just needs 1GB of Video Ram for textures, rest is CPU driven... so the 970 is overkill for PS2.

However.. I'm using a 4790K and the 970 as my rig and it runs other games really well at max settings. Its overkill for PS2, but of course I use it for more than just PS2.

I use 4690k 120fps solid on ultra 1080p. But it drops in big battles to about 90-100

Those processors are identical, save that the i7 is hyperthreaded. You will see no difference in PS2 between them.
Someone mentioned that one was better than the other for overclocking. Again, because they are the same chip, this is not true. They will both overclock the same (probably pretty well since the 4690/4790 are the 'optimized' revisions of the 4670/4770 chips, allowing them to clock higher).
