Please, for the sake of the public at large, explain to thy peers why thou is measured out an LMG of breathless capacity, a rocket of which one-shots thy lesser brethren that go by foot and lays mighty blows upon those which cover themselves in yonder MAX suits, and for what reasons thou requires a shield of such magnificence that thou suffers cunning ambush from the lesser classes and remain victorious at day's end?

The last time this topic came up, the defense was 'Heavy Assault is designed to be overpowered'.

That was what they went with.

    Seriously.

explain why you cant frame your argument without trying to sound smart by talking like you are at a ren fair first.

And the problem with that is?

It's primary job is to face down sways of enemy troops and battle ******* tanks. TANKS. Of course they're OP. That's their job. They're the midpoint between the other infantry and MAX units - basically think "soldier class" on an RPG or something.

People'll be claiming the LA's jetpack gives them an unfair terrain climbing ability next...

the lore states that the HA frame was designed to take on maxes and armor, so yeah it should be durable since it was designed as a cheap counter to max suits/armor. the rocket launcher is an extension of that. I find people who complain about not being able to take down heavies when they ambush them are more often then not really complaining about the current hit registrations issues and lag compensation.

I also complain about the flinch animation. It's annoying to sneak up behind a heavy, getting one headshot, and subsequent headshots missing because he flinched forwards.

Oh god yeah, the only time I die to an HA I "go after" rather than one I just "run into" is because 20% of my shots passed through his head like he was made of the ******* ether.

Well, that and if they're armed with the Betelguese (I'm hating VS, am I cool now?) :p

well, before in planetside 1 the bread and butter of infantry was the guy wearing the reinforced exosuit who had anti vehicle weapons to deal with maxes in doors and had an assault rifle or empire specific heavy weapon to deal with infantry.

They didn't carry pistols normally, just a hacking tool to open doors in their inventory while they had a healing and repair tool in their pockets to keep pushing after each engagement.

They didn't do anything fantastic like single handedly stop tanks or revive anyone, they simply had enough to support themselves and if needed to heal and repair others. They weren't a replacement for a dedicated medic or combat engineer, and they didn't carry enough ammo to fight back vehicles, only to mostly scare them unless there was enough guys with anti vehicle weapons to gang up on one.

However back then was different, today how how the heavy assault as a class is, he brings the big guns with enough ammo to take out a vehicle or two and an army of infantry. He simply just does, he has no inventory restraints, his weight doesn't burden him in a way that makes him slower than lighter equipped soldiers, he simply just has a reloadable decimator with the TR's chain gun of old for every faction.

Now if you go heavy assault, you can't revive or heal others, you can't repair and there is nothing you need to repair on yourself, you get a free pistol like all classes do now so there is no real sacrifice for carrying weaponss, you don't need a hacking tool to get into bases so there is nothing stopping you from walking in.

There are a lot of factors this time around that aren't present, the heavy assault just has what he needs to do exactly what this game is about, kill people, destroy vehicles, capture bases, drive vehicles.

If there were doors, that would put a dead stop to most classes unless an infiltrator opened the doors for them, meaning maxes can't run into bases without the support of other infantry, and other things that could potentially help balance this game. The idea simply is, Planetside 2 lacks a lot of things which makes everything too easy to access and thus ruins the point of balancing.

In planetside 1, reinforced exosuits couldn't even fit into some vehicles so you weren't allowed to drive unless you took it off, you could gun though without problems.

I don't see why HA needs the trifecta of an LMG that can fire from Monday to Sunday without stopping, concussion grenades, rocket launchers that can OHK lesser infantry(and they will abuse the hell out of their rockets for easy kills), and still have a shield that can negate initiative and ambush.

How is that not the answer???

LA get to fly around and ambush
Inf get to track and stealth to ambush
    Engs repair
    Medics heal and repair.

HA stand their and fight so yeah they are they are strong in a face to face battle. They are still not unbeatable in 1vs1 face to face.

Observe ye the class of our armament, the LMG. It is roundly inferior to thy assault rifles, as the noble Medic bears. The good doctors bear a weapon with character that of which has greater accuracy in both the cone and the kick one receives from the internal expulsions. Further, it seems as if my peer's reload of great length is balanced against the smaller ammunition container.

Further see, sir, that while our rockets lay our brethren low at a stroke, such a stroke is rare, that is it doth not happen in a regular manner. See how it has a large cone of fire, both while aimed and while shot blindly, further that the velocity it has is low. Then see that the sights by which one aims are a greater hindrance. Of a greater order than all these, see how, while one may be struck down, any more will thwart the effort of said Heavy Assault to remain in the position he is in, for the time it takes to trade to an LMG is long, and the time it takes to supply the rocket launcher with said rocket is yet longer. The yoke of those who look upon the rocket with disfavor is an imagined one, brother!

Yet it suffers me some to speak of the shield. Cunning ambushes are not laid waste complete, however, since the advantage conferred is but a few milliseconds more!

I've tried running over an MBT with a Sunderer. They don't explode on-contact like Lightnings do. I was disappointed.

ZOE is supposed to be overpowered.
PPA is supposed to be overpowered.
Orion is supposed to be overpowered.
Liberators are supposed to be overpowered.

How is that not the answer???

If skill is equal, they will win every single 1v1 battle. There is absolutely nothing about them that can be exploited as a flaw whatsoever.

Anyone who says concussion grenades aren't insanely broken must play HA. In the three hours I used them from unlocking them, one two different occasions I was able to just casually stroll into a room and kill four people before my LMG ran dry, then probably pistol down a fifth before the conc effect wore off.

i dont really see the big deal with the heavy assault.

get indoors, with a shotgun and they die shield popped or not. it doesnt matter. they arent super human.

one of the classes has to be the one with the rocket launcher, and since the name is 'Heavy assault' hes obviously going to have a big machine gun analogue.

if you're not in a position where their your chances of survival based on the equipment you have are higher than theirs you obviously are going to die.

In every other FPS I know of, the rocket launcher and LMG are on separate classes.

LMG should be on a supportive class for suppressive fire at mid-long ranges, and the rocket launcher on a more vehicle oriented class such as... the engineer - not a front line assault class. Heavies should be limited to SMG/Shotgun. The shield makes them too durable past close ranges w/damage drop-off and CoF/recoil coming into play giving them dramatic TTK advantage.

LMGs also need a revamp to be valuable in a support/suppression role, right now many of them are barely different from assault rifles except for the hip-fire being awful.
