Sorry, what? I'm not following you here. Did you mean NC farmers or moonshiners?

But really, it's a game and hitscan is boring.
  2. stalkish

Hahah, ye defo, speaking of which I asked in outfit chat the other day:
'I wonder if soldiers of auraxis simply kill themselves when they need to eat, **** or wash, and respawn'
Guess im not the only one whos thought along those lines.

Id also give myself the perfect physique and simply 'respawn' when it started to waste away :D
  3. stalkish

NC 'tech' is more advanced than TR 'tech'.
Gauss tech > bullets with gunpowder.

So if NC are farmers, would that make TR the cattle? ;)
  4. CMDante

The NC don't develop their own weapons. They buy them or are given them by their corporate masters. NC are backwoods hillbillies and terrorists, not scientists.
  5. FateJH

So what would you do with all of the dead bodies?

It's not unrealistic to think that all the factions still do basic R&D, especially since the factional split took a huge chunk out of the scientists who would have previously performed this function for both the military and the corporations. The TR seem to incorporate less of their results into their active arsenal, and the VS incorporate the most. The NC have this weird consumerism thing going on where they hire people to buy shotguns from them, I think.
  6. kaneozen

No i agree hitscan is boring but i am talking about geting the projectiles to move faster
  7. CMDante

I'd sign off on that, it feels very odd to have to lead a walking target with a high velocity rifle.
  8. Ballto21

id mulch myself and use half of it for fishing and the other half to make either large game bait or fertilizer
  9. FateJH

But a situation that is very close to hitscan is all that will come of it. Almost all small arms already have muzzle velocities that match or surpass the maximum Infantry draw distance per second (midds). Pistols, despite their damage fall-off, usually match midds; Light Machines Guns are double midds! Unless you adjust gravity affecting individual projectiles, and with drop being a function of velocity in all but the VS weapons, straight-line sure-hit shooting is an easy pit trap to land in.

How much faster do you want them?
  10. kaneozen

Like a minumum of 700MPS on ARs and LMGs
Minumum or 800MPS for snipers and rockets
    Shotguns at minumum 400MPS
Side arms and SMGs at minimum of 550MPS
And tank cannons have a min of 650MPS

I'd LOVE more space between bases, with more empty structures that could be used with AMS as footholds for pushing further forward to next base.

    LOVE IT....

I wouldn't change anything else though besides giving tanks a sorely needed coax.

It seems kinda like an oxymoron NC does.
On the one hand its hillbillies from the backwoods, making shine, banjos an all that.
On the other they are 'corporate masters'.

However, everyone fight and dies and respawns for the NC cause, why wouldnt they?

Im of the impression the NC corporations that developed gauss tech kept it from their TR overlords as they knew a war was coming and thought the advanced tech would give them an edge. Little did they know, scientists backed by their own corporations had also secretly developed plasma based weaponary but due to the impending war kept this info from their corporate masters and in an effort to advance their own alien cause created a seperatist movement.
So TR ended up with vast stockpiles of older traditional weaponary that they already had control over, and once the war broke out they fell back on that hardened battle proven weaponary.
  13. Skooma Lord

I would love to have better velocities on guns and tank cannons. Maybe they could increase the size of some bases as well. I always thought it would make sense to have higher velocities on games with grand environments.
  14. CMDante

Not "they are" they're. "Their" as in ownership. The NC were bought off by corporations and used to harass the TR.
The TR is canonically very set on tradition, they use old weapons and equipment because they work and work well. They eschewed the use of gauss weaponry because they could do it better with bullets. The NC are very proud of the "advanced" stuff they bought, we given or stole. But they're no better than what the TR has been doing for thousands of years. The repeater itself has been in service for 300 years, receiving only occasional upgrades.

Between Auraxis Firearms, Genudine Dymanics, Esamire Munitions Corporation and Liberty Arsenal. The NC make almost nothing of their own, and what they -do- make themselves is all re-purposed mining gear anyway.

The VS just backwards engineered the ancient Vanu tech, which is impressive in itself but they're hardly the ones that developed it.
  15. Cuze

Not only are the velocities incredibly slow, some bullets fall faster than others too, so on Araxis gravity does not apply equally to all matter.
  16. Sandpants

The curretn Velocity speeds would be fine if the actualy map engagement ranges were closer.
But majority of maps we have are so open you get the perception that the velocity sucks. Obviously, scaled poorly.
  17. Meeka

Have you noticed its a game? Games by default, don't have to follow realism... generally, the more realistic a game is, the less fun it becomes.
  18. stalkish

''Not "they are" they're. "Their" as in ownership'', thanks for the English lesson, but thats kind of a sour way to start a post.
NC wernt bought off by corporations, NC are the corporations.
    As per the wiki:

    The backstory:
    TR History

This is the empire from which the story begins. Having existed for over four hundred years, it is the originator of all three empires.
The Terran Republic was officially established with the ratification of the Declaration of Constancy by nations weary of nearly two hundred years of war. They brought order out of chaos and introduced the world to an era of peace. Terrans eventually made space travel possible. From this, Wormholes were discovered, studied, and found to be a means of transportation from one area of space to another. It is through one of these wormholes that the Terran Republic found their way to Auraxis, an earth-like planet that could sustain life. They proceeded with their ambitious plans of colonization on Auraxis which continued uninterrupted for 20 years.
Things radically changed when the wormhole collapsed stranding the entire expeditionary force. They began research on how they could re-open the wormhole, which ultimately failed. During these uncertain times, "Vanu" artifacts were being discovered on Auraxis. Shortly after this, the development of "Rebirthing" technology began. It started to become clear to the Terran Leadership that this new technology could possibly destabilize future colonies. They established draconian restrictions on the new technology, so they could study it better without interruption or meddling by private companies or individuals and adapt it for use with their own military. A sense of immortality began to create turmoil between developing groups of people with significantly different philosophies as to how the technology should be used. Already, a faction of technophiles emerged embracing the Vanu technology and its lost knowledge.
Unrest formed between the developing factions which was exacerbated by rogue scientists and republic military deserters. Previous attempts to quell the uprising ended in a bloody battle and resulted in the separation of the Technolords, who then declared themselves the Vanu Sovereignty. In the initial chaos rogue scientists released blueprints for rebirthing facilities and instructions on how to use them. While this was going on, a third faction called the New Conglomerate seized the opportunity while the Terran Republic was occupied and was able to create an independent rebirthing network just as the Terran Republic feared.
    NC Origins

The New Conglomerate was initially formed on Earth, over a century before the wormhole collapse as a mega-collective of civilian corporations who worked alongside the Terran Republic government on virtually every project throughout the solar system. After arriving on Auraxis, the New Conglomerate continued to work along with the Terran Republic on shaping and building up the new world. Over decades, tensions grew because of the rules the Republic enforced and the remaining corporations of the N.C. began rallying rebel groups on the fringe of the civilian population and began organizing a campaign of insurgency. It was then a small group of freedom-fighters that called themselves "Liberty's Call" staged a demonstration protesting the Terran Republic's blatant, systematic elimination of human rights. A large group of people gathered to hear their views; however, the Republic's Riot Police put an end to the demonstration, killing every protester and even several innocent onlookers. Now, more than a hundred years later, the New Conglomerate, founded on the same principles as those supposedly slaughtered in the "alleged" Liberty's Call massacre, is determined to write a new chapter of history. A chapter free of the overbearing and draconian regime from which they claim to have emerged. Staging a short and brutal rebellion, the fledgling movement broke away from the Republic, wresting from it control of several rebirthing facilities thanks to a public broadcast from Vanu scientists, currently in the midst of their own revolt, and the loyalty of many of its battered and oppressed citizens.
Though the fall of the Terran Republic still remains the New Conglomerate's primary goal, there is no small amount of the group's animosity directed at the Vanu Sovereignty, another cell to have splintered from the regime. It is the New Conglomerate's understanding that the Sovereignty holds alien-influenced views of the human race as a flawed species; one they are attempting to mold into something different – something alien – through genetic modification and experimentation.
Guided by the idea that humanity deserves to be free from outside influences to find its own path in the universe, the New Conglomerate has decided that the Vanu Sovereignty and Terran Republic alike must be stopped for good, and their crimes against liberty brought to an end.

    VS Origins

The Vanu Sovereignty derives its name from a long extinct alien race known as the Vanu, whose strange artifacts were discovered on the planet of Auraxis shortly after the first expeditionary forces from the Terran Republic arrived and on an asteroid before venturing through the wormhole. The Terran Republic sought to suppress VS experiments, deeming them a danger to humanity (or just their government). It was under these circumstances which they considered "oppressive" that the Vanu Sovereignty was formed and managed to persuade some "free-thinking" scientists to join its cause. The Sovereignty broke away, taking many bright minds and scientists from the Republic and several rebirthing facilities with it. The Vanu Sovereignty now seeks to destroy the Republic for the freedom to experiment on this alien technology, alter human beings, and further develop and research without restriction. This they feel is the key to the future.
Through the use of the mysterious Vanu technology "procured" during their split from the Republic, the group developed exotic energy weapons to aid them in their cause. In addition, they began experimenting with ways to improve the human body through modification. It was this alteration of the human species that generated great suspicion of and ultimately a declaration of war upon the Sovereignty by the New Conglomerate, another faction which had splintered away from the oppressive Terran Republic and which saw the Sovereignty's modification programs as an affront to humankind's natural progression.
Now, surrounded by enemies that are awash in ignorance, the Vanu Sovereignty fights to claim Auraxis in honor of their namesake and prove once and for all that technology is might.

The lore does seem to suggest that the TR were left with the 'left overs' after the VS stole Vanu tech, and the NC corporations split with their gauss tech.
  19. CMDante

    This is from the official PS2 wiki, describing the NC;
"A loosly connected group of rebel factions and idealistic freedom fighters, the New Conglomerate fights against the hegemony of the Terran. The New Conglomerate is a separatist faction determined to remain free of the controlling and domineering Republic. They feel that any form of control is oppression and that a miserable free man is better off than a contented slave."

Even if the NC -are- the corporation, like any other corporation they'd be 95% grunts. For damn sure it's not a faction composed of powerful CEOs.
  20. PasitheeVS

I'm not sure if this was already mentioned here, since I don't want to read the whole 5 pages, I am going to tell this anyway.

    A PS2 Continent is around, idk, let's say 7km x 7km big. That's around 50m².
    A RL warzone is, let's take Afghanistan, 500km x 500km big. That's 250000km².

So, a PS2 Continent is only a 1/5000 as big as a RL warzone. So are PS2 Bases and RL Battlefields.

So, you as a gamemaker, have to adjust the bullet velocities so, that it doesn't ruin the game.
E.g. with realistic velocities every pistol in the game is a better sniper rifle than we have ingame.
And VS Laser projectiles would travel at lightspeed, making them all hitting instantly without bulletdrop...
