I thinking of getting a new hard drive for all of my stuff and wanted some feed back. The current drive I have spins at 5400 RPM and the new drive I want to get spins at 7200RPM. Am I going to see a huge boost in performance.

    Thanks :)

Doubtful. I was using a 1tb 5400 RPM HDD that had all my games on it and my OS, but recently put in a new HDD with a 500gb capacity that span at 7200 RPM.

I did notice a difference in loading and texture rendering times, but not huge. Loading times decreased maybe... 10%? 15%?

I saw no improvement in actual game performance though. Just slight increases in loading times.

Loading times? Yes, especially if it's a very old drive to a newer one with a larger cache and so on.

    Gameplay? Minor improvement at best.

    not a huge boost no

if the drive has good random read times you might get a slight boost in paging file performance though ( apart from a boost in loading times ofc)

as a general rule, if it's faster (and I don't mean only the rpm but all the rest of the stats) get it since you'll see a general uplift in your pc's performance

Thanks for the input everyone :). The drive I'm thinking of is a WD black http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=760. I was just thinking of putting games on it. The other drive is a WD green but its heading into four years but works fine for everything else.

    I recommend WD black!

A WD Green isn't the fastest drive. It's made for energy conservation, not performance. A Black should give you a noticeable shift in all load times.

What I would do is buy an SSD drive for gaming, take the green drive you already have and use that for storage, backups and big office type applications.

since most of the game assets should be loaded into ram you might get better load times but not much in the way of gameplay improvements.
