Actually you can thank Waterson! And I'm glad they changed this, it was really stupid that TR were able to hold the continent for a month because they couldn't be pushed back into their warpgate, there were 2 nights when we almost had em, one base, cmon cmon! This all coulda been avoided if this system were implemented! The negatitivity AND stupidity in this thread is astounding, and anyone from Waterson arguing against this system being implemented who was there the nights the TR did this is going to get it.
  2. maxkeiser

    Good post. I agree, sadly.
  3. KingoftheBorderline

Well thought out, but how much do you play the game? On Waterson the lattice works just fine and I have more fun on the lattice system. If the lattice system were reverted people who leave anyway, so its better for SOE to work with their vision of PS2 and not yours. If you can't beat em join em, that's what the old expressions say, the people who cry constantly on the forums aren't trying to enjoy the game, because they have convinced themselves that they won't.
  4. St0mpy

No, just no. Its very unfair to say we needed this because of some other problem elsewhere, namely the population imbalance on Waterson (my br 40 something alt is there, if you were in the indar bay battle a couple of days ago you know I know the score there ;) ).

Waterson TR can rise to 50% in its current pre-balanced state and thats not a reason to change every server down including ones with no such problems (or lesser magnitude) and its exactly those fights you speak of which the lattice bought us, hex at least allowed the attacking force to flow around the other gate bases to complete the cap, not so with lattice, all gate bases are sectioned off from the other attacking faction disallowing hex like flowing.

So its not really a population problem, thats actually being dealt with in its own right (not sure how, higby hinted on twitter somethings being looked at).
  5. Hosp

This has nothing to do with lattice.
  6. Vashyo

something that could potentially be like the prequel (this is why I still play the game), what you just said is how I see it right now at this moment. If SOE said oh well, we're not gonna do anymore gameplay changes = I quit.

I'm most anticipating more continents so we could finally have less threeway battles and meaningful continental conquest.
  7. Nepau

I personaly think this change should have affected Alerts only. I do hope that once we a cross contenent lattice (IE going from contenent to contenent rather then each being seperate as they are now) that they remove this. I think this is probibly more of a bandaid solution to the server lag that occures when you have everyone on the contenent fighting over just one base ( as has been seen a few times atleast on my server on Indar).
  8. Jex =TE=

So what are the population inbalances on the other 2 continents? If one side has 60% pop then you have no argument.
  9. Zakuak

I'm not here to harp on Lettuce but I am not fond of the changes to cont capping.

This "you almost did it" rewards system is a plague and waters down the experience. Why reward a group for NOT being able to "DOMINATE" it's adversary?
You keep moving the finish line of accomplishment closer to the starting line, why?

This will royally f*ck any faction who is getting double teamed lol.

If the side getting hammered on refuses to capitulate and stands on its last piece of territory for one epic fight then dammit the game shouldn't step in and say "well nice try but you loose". Let the actions of those involved influence the victories to be had not some other "hand of god" game mechanic!!

EDIT: Idea, what if they'd of just linked the 3 or 4 bases surrounding each Warp Gate, then if on faction pushed in far enough they could have continued pushing instead of this "almost did it" approach..Too late now though

how do I convince myself I'm not having fun on Indar instead of just not actually having fun on indar? please enlighten me. Because I'm on Waterson almost every night and DREAD having to go to Indar.

Nearly everyone I've talked too, in game, and on these fourms share the following oppinion: The lattice as it currently needs alot of improvement. Sure some people disagree if it was a step in the right direction or a step backwards, but frankly it's time to stop deluding ourselves that the lattice as is it currently stands is the perfect solution to PS2. If it was, everyone would have loved it.

well that's an optimistic view, I see a month of OMG HOSSIN then back to All Indar All the time with the other 3 being ghosttowns.

Indeed, attacking the least defended lane is still the best option. Thing is, due to the predictability of your capture movement down the lane (since you have few options), the lack of defense very rarely last for long. At the 2nd/3rd base down the lane, you get countered very often.
And there, YES, begins the back and forth stalemate.
And that's where objective variation comes in. If / once we have separate (geographically) objectives that permit us to to things like cutting off ennemy ressources on the main lane, the ennemy ESF, tanks, MAX availability down the lane, or we can kill their respawn rate, for example, then THERE the choices are coming back, and the fight variation will come back.

I'm mixed on SOE plans. They have been told since beta, last August, that ONLY having region capture as game objective is utterly bad for the game, and so far have done NOTHING about it. Their initial answer to "metagame" problem has been "here is Facility benefits", which again revolves around capturing said facility, and only capturing it.
It's a pretty simple concept, but they seem to not understand it.

OTOH, they have long term plan about introduction of new continents (this one is another crucial point as to why Lattice is important). We can only hope.

I personnaly don't think the lattice as we have now is nearly enough, but I think return to Hex system would be even worse.
  12. Malorn

I wanted to clarify that for continental domination benefits the hex size of the region does not matter. Territory ownership is based on percentage of territories owned, not percentage of hexes owned. Warpgates and the little resource territories right next to the warpgates which are not capturable do not count toward that percentage.

Yes, you can thank the Waterson fight. I was TR in that fight and I have posted in the past, that we should have lost the cap that night.

But the problem was created by the Lattice.

Waterson had fights just like that during prime time while the hex was on Indar. (granted the territories were different.) The difference between the hex and lettuce, meant the NC could do only one thing once they got to the TR WG.

They would have had to take control of the last territory and escorted at least one VS to the cap point to turn it.

In the hex fights, the NC or VS had no restrictions. At some points all three factions controlled at least one point of the last territory at the same time. These were epic fights.

Why were they epic, you ask?

Because, the battles grew in size the closer the other two factions got to the WG. The unrestricted drives by attackers meant as we were slowly (2-3 hours) being pushed back to our WG, each terrritory closer to the WG = a bigger fight at the next.

There was a great story to discuss the next day. It had a start, a middle and win or lose, built upto a finale.

The story in the Lettuce System, is generic (intentionally) skips the beginning and jumps straight to the middle. Now with Gu11 and the change to continental cap percentages, the finale is gone. Not diminished, but indistinguishable from the middle.

RIP three way faction fights. (but I guess the new alerts are somehow supposed to fix this? or is this change to fix the new alerts  )

Also, Lettuce System removes the escalation and draws the story out over days, instead of the 2-3 hour primetime window. Leaving no conclusion possible. I find this makes it feel like grinding, I'm sure some disagree.

The worst part of all these changes, to me at at least, is The Lettuce was intended to make fights larger and more epic. But the gu11 continental cap percentage changes, actually remove the biggest fights and closest thing to epic fights in the game. (and yes also the most laggy)

Am I the only one that finds that Ironic and sad?

    *EDIT* First!

    I couldn't resist.

Awesome, thanks for clearing that up, so 1 territory = 1 base irrespective of size, you do like simple as I thought (and thanks for not making me count all the hex areas :D )

    -------

STAT UPDATE: IVE MADE A GRAVE ERROR OVER THE AMOUNT OF INDAR BASES. ITS 92.

THIS MEANS 23 BASES DONT NEED CAPPING TO WIN THE CONTINENT.

I just counted a map print rather than relied on old data i found on google, Indar lattice today has 92!! bases (not including the little 1 hexes by the gate)

So as I was saying, 92 territories, 25% not needing capping means 23 territories can be ignored, either 11-12 around both enemy gates, or 23 from one whole corner if your faction gates one other faction first.

Thats a helluva lot of indar which simply doesnt need capping or even fighting over.
  15. Zakuak

WOW, that's a lot when you put the numbers in place of percents, I will give it a whirl and rage about it later I suppose =)
  16. MasonSTL

I have to agree with you St0mpy, 75% is too little but I do feel that the original 100% is a bit ridiculous. I always felt that a dethroning should be achieved if a faction was able to have a complete link from one WG to the other. And a complete continent capture if all facilities where captured along with one complete link to each of the other two faction warp gates.
  17. Holomang

Capping at 4am with 70% pop is easy. Breaking locks alone, during primetime with the whole of the VS trying to stop you, is an accomplishment. An accomplishment VS in their current sorry state are incapable of matching.
  18. St0mpy

Tell that to Mattherson players, they may disagree strongly.
  19. Holomang

    I am.
  20. Vanu Superiority

Yeah, that's a problem with lettuce. You can't cap a map well because that requires capturing and holding several fronts at the same time, and with all the numbers funneled, warpgating is darn near impossible. Solution? Dumb down the game more.

Honestly, it's really sad how this game has done downhill. It was amazing at launch, but now it's just getting progressively worse with each update.
