GPU overheating?

Most of their time the game run perfect, graphics set to ultra. Stable fps the machine runs Cold. But every other game update the GPU goes crazy. Still not problems in game but you can't touch the chase near the GPU because it's too hot. But the next update everything is fine. Turning down the graphics usually help in the meantime. Is it game related and if so anything i can do more than just putting in more cooling or turning the grafics down?

It could be PS2's in-game UI? I've had this problem before, if viewed too frequently, has caused my GPU to overheat dramatically.

I have temperature issues but CPU related, and for Skyrim. I usually go into my energy settings (battery on laptop) and turn down maximum cpu performance to 90% or 85%, it fixes it and I have almost no performance drop.

    Suggestions:

    • Turn off or turn down overlock
    • Check if your fans are clean and the area is not obstructed.
    • Similar to my CPU fix, you could go into your GPU control panel and set it to "consistent performance" instead of "maximum performance" or "default". Settings it to maximum will have the GPU always running on highest regardless of the game's demand in power. For some, like me, that doesn't make any difference since my laptop apparently lock down the actual highest performance possible for voltage and system consistency, but for stronger GPUs that will probably impact temperatures. Its best that you opt for consistent or default, so the GPU adjusts itself to the game demands.
    • If none of that works:
    • Obviously, check if your drivers are up to date, or change your drivers.
    • Turn GPU to "power saving" in temperature settings (that can impact performance)
    • As last resort, decrease game rendering to 90% or any other intensive visual options
    • If you don't wanna mess with visuals: You'll have to invest in cooling, if none of those work.
If your GPU was working fine in terms of temps before this issue, then there is something really wrong.

How do you expect someone being able to help you if you neither provide the GPU nor the temperature.
