Takes so long to unlock yo...

Yes, I have a 50% exp boost on, take that away and you would still have a HUGE cert gain, btw that was purely playing as medic + infil... today I have earned 1400 certs and I only played for 5 hours total... by the time my 1 time exp boost is over and double exp is off, I wont need any more certs for a long long long time...

Now, take a look at other F2P games, from korean grind fests to world of tanks and the battlefield franchise, NONE, not a single one comes anywhere close to the quality that planetside offers, nor do they offer the equality across the playerbase that planetside offers, yes there are advantages to buying, but they are tiny, miniscule in comparison to those for sale from the battlefield free games for example...

Without double exp and my exp boost on it would take me... 12 hours? To unlock the most expensive gun in the game for 100% free?

That strikes me as an INSANELY good deal given the quality of the game I am getting for absolutely nothing... I paid £50 for black ops 2 and got bored of its multiplayer after 30 hours... 150 hours into planetside 2 and everyday I only love it more and it cost me a fraction of any of the CoD franchise...

    I am not complaining...

Is this post for real? Lets get it on.

    1) You don't need every gun you need 1 gun for each class, half the classes best in class is the default weapon so it cost 0 points. To upgrade that you will have 1 mod and 1 scope so 130 certs total, and gun is "maxed".

    2) You only need 1 item for each slot on each class. Nanoweave armor is all you need in that slot, medical applicator for utility, and so on. Taking these all to rank 4 for whatever class you play is very easy to do with a total of 1000 certs. So according to you, you just "maxed" out a character in 2 weeks. Do that for each class and you are done.

Seriously, I find myself just putting points into every vehicle and getting those last levels at this point. I have all classes at 95% effectiveness very fast.

Vehicles, depends on vehicle to determine how effective you are without purchasing a main gun. Then again if it takes about 1100 to soft cap out a char, you can expect it to take that much to get a new main weapon on your planes.

There is no need to get EVERYTHING in this game, most of it is garbage. Make sure you do research before you spend points so it is not for waste is key.

I would like to buy you a beer.

#1 Just because you point out that I bolded something doesn't make what I said untrue.

#2 Every single person said they don't think the shop is pay to win an neither do I.

#3 Call of Duty... I guess it is a video game but do no think its really relevant and I have no idea what point you were making.

Back to my point. This game has a very real Pay2Win feature in its resource boosts. To get extra stuff, double the stuff, you have to pay. Sure you can have fun for free and thats true of almost all free to play games. All things being equal, the same player will do much better paying money than not over any amount of time. That is pay to win
  5. justme

you pay for convenience rather than paying to win
There is a difference. You still have to grind you.
Like every MMO there is grinding. Understand that.
Capturing major facilities. Gives you around 20 certs
while killing players gives you 1/2 cert.
Vehiles give you 1 depending on how tough they are.
So, take down a galaxy by yourself that is full. You will get almost the same thing as a facility.
Congrats, you now understand how this is not a pay to win
  6. Gunhazard

Cert gain isn't that bad IMO. Most MMOs you'd be looking at a few days commitment to unlock a major new thing for a character.

I think SOE could do with having some kind of 'starter package' that you can buy that gives some basic stuff so people have options for each class/vehicle, but players should expect to commit time to unlocking cool stuff in an mmo. Having a goal to look forwards to is a major motivator to keep people playing a game.
  7. SenEvason

This isn't pay to win. Cosmic Break is pay to win. That game sold game-breaking weapons. PS2 doesn't.
  8. Dam187

^I agree with the above guy.

@ OP & Pay2Pay people:The only advantage a paying customer gets is more resources & early unlocks. both aren't anything special. All a FTP player has to do is play this game gaining certs to eventually unlock all the weapons a paying customer gets early on. So their advantage is negated.

As for their resource boost you have two choices A) Fire first B) Out gun their resources.

All it takes is some common sense and tactical reasoning to make paying players advantages be moot. You're just lazy that is why you complain and rather say lies such as "PS2 is pay2win."
  9. AwakenRiceball

You cannot spend $15 on in-game items? Really? This is no where near a pay2win game.

You spend $5 ~ $8 at a Fast Food Restaurant
Downloadable contents via marketplace cost quite a bit for gaming consoles
BF3 does the same concept as Planetside 2. You can buy all the unlocks early or play the game.
Gas in the car cost more in 2 weeks than one-time fee of $15 for in-game items
A date cost more than $15 in a single day

You want a pay2win game? Play Perfect World & Aion (On the burg of it).
I like supporting the the Deves because Planetside 2 is a good game; on the other hand, it still has kinks to fix and some things to nerf.
  10. TopPlayer1999

I think everyone is just reading the op and responding. Store and certs not pay to win. But no one has denied that the resource boosts is a form of pay to win. Relative to other games or not it is.
  11. Abraxas

    People are missunderstanding this game...
    It is a MMO.
You have to pay a monthly subscription for any good MMO.

Planetside just has an unlimited trial time where you get resources slower than paying customers.

The rest is pay for convenience (want that nice shiny specialist weapon which you are prolly to n00b to use proper NOW? get some cash...).
  12. DerpyHooves

free to play players dont have the booster and if you suck like me with 10 fps and have alpha squad (which disappears if you buy premium) you are lucky to get 300 certs a day. I normally average 250 on non double exp days. so far i can do 400 -500 on double exp.
  13. Haskaal

You should all be grateful that this is free to play!
  14. sagolsun

It's the only way to be competitive on a casual level. The only winning move is not to play then?
  15. MrBigDeal

Funny how I've played 120 hours and earned around 5k certs. That's 5 1000 cert guns and bare in mind that there are plenty of good guns which are a lot cheaper. If you don't want to take time to earn your weapons, buy them.
  16. Flappers

You know I rarely use any resources.
I go on the ground with my platoon and dominate with no problems.

Every time I login, have have max resources available to me... that is WITHOUT any resource boosts.
So the fact you are trying to make that Resources = a sure win, is completely and utterly incorrect.

As for weapons and equipment... you can't expect just to have it without working for it.
Like every other MMO, there is a grind.
If you don't want to grind, then you can pay for the convenience.

@OP - Making posts in BIGGER FONTS DOES NOT MAKE YOUR POST ANY MORE FACTUAL

In fact, it is rather annoying and shows how obnoxious you are.
  17. Evilmonky

The only time the boost you get for resources as a premium player make a difference is when you are trying to push out of a camped WG and you are a pilot/driver. If you just head back to a cont where you have more bases capped then you can get your resources back fairly fast and just go back (had a pilot need to do that today)
  18. Aghar30

considering you can unlock the rocket pods and burster with certs its still not pay to win, its just pay to get it faster.
  19. Noppa

The game rly isnt pay to win, sure i am premium member and use the XP boosts but mostly i use the stock starter weapons like AF19 with no attachment, its a rly good balanced weapon and easy to handle recoil.

U cant buy anything with money that u couldnt buy with certs, sure u take some time to get the certs but that is ur own choice if u dont wanna pay from game and support the game makers.
Even when i buy weapon i still need the certs to unlock everything on it. :)

And tbh CERT gain isnt that hard, pretty easy to make 200cert+ in a hour now when it is double XP(with engi/sunderer on right spot).
  20. DonkeyDoodah

I am not sure what the fuss is about. Though personally I would like weapons to unlock I don't see them being that much slower to unlock than the last game of this sort I played: Battlefield 2.

Sure if you want quick unlocks you have to pay. I would have thought it would have been better for SOE to charge more up front, even if it was just $30. And then give people a load of cert points to spend right at the start as a result.

I also cannot understand why they don't just lower the SC prices. Lower prices = happier players = more players = more sales.

The excuse that "this is a game we want players to play for years" doesn't hold water. What, you mean like team fortress two with their nickel and dime operation where stuff hardly costs anything hmmm?
