Gauss SAW Changed Again?

Quite possibly just me so don't all panic.

But when the LMG changes went through I just could not hit the broadside of a barn with the thing anymore.

A couple of weeks ago I put together an Anti-Air loadout for HA and slapped the SAW into it figuring that it would still be the 'best' option when trying to take potshots having run out of Rockets or 'no time to reload with ESF screaming down right at me'

Anyhoo, having taken on a couple of infantry I find that the SAW just seems to handle a heck of a lot better than it used to. So much so that I've swapped out the NS-15 I was running on my general purpose build as it seems to lack any punch in comparison.

(There's an infinitesimally small chance that I have actually gotten very slightly less bad at the game.)

You have probably just gotten better. I hated the SAW too, changed to Anchor and Auraxiumed it, got back to the SAW adn still hated it, switched over to EM1 and auraxiumed it. Got back to the SAW again and I am finally having fun with it.

The only change I rememeber to the SAW was in PU2 I think when the double hipfire penalty bug was removed from it.

What VikingoX said. Unfortunately for me, I've gone through the EM6, NS-15M & Anchor and I still can't find myself liking the weapon. I want to like it, but I just don't feel comfortable with its profile enough to do so. It's great if you find yourself doing well with it, though- she's a prized stallion! =)

Sounds like the VS genetic mod team's new intern needs to be spoken with...

    :p

    Thanks for the replies.

I am wondering if it is because I had to get a mouse wrist rest which has altered the position I have to hold my hand at. I didn't twig it at first but my knife fighting skills have gone to pot over the past month while I seem to have gotten better with the SAW.

That just means you're not manly enough to handle the SAW. Seriously.

You're not alone. I dunno what all the hype is with the GAWD SAW. In my hands it was completely useless until I got a compensator on it. Only thing it has going for it is the damage and to me it pays for it too harshly in other key stats. After some other reading... it may be because I strafe a lot while ADS'n and you are penalized heavily with this gun for doing so with regards to the CoF.

I'm willing to accept I'm not man enough for it =)

You're using it wrong if you're having any trouble getting kills with the saw. If you're trying to use it like a TR or a VS weapon, you're doing it wrong. It's not a bullet hose. Always ASD, and always use burst. Aim low, and let it walk itself into a headshot, the recenter, you should be killing things in 4 or 5 shots.. It's low rate of fire is perfect for the type of gun it is, slower rates of fire are easier to control.

edit: and I don't even play NC. But I have been killed by plenty of them. It's the only weapon that I fear, even in the hands of a low br character, all they have to do is control their recoil, and there's not much you can do to beat them.

Well, to be fair, prior to Hossin I spent a lot of time indoors and moving- situations not friendly for the GodSaw. Sure, a few shots to the head in CQC with the Saw is enough to kill someone.. but there are plenty of other guns out there that achieve CQC superiority with less hassle and aiming, so it's more a matter of situations you find yourself in versus just not having the will to learn burst fire.

Well yeah, it's not the BEST gun for cqc, but it's one of the better lmgs for it. But if you use it the role it's meant for, you will be able to outshoot most people, as long as you keep calm and place your shots.

I've auraxiumed all but Saw S and I still don't like crapsaw...

I've almost double auraxiumed the Gauss SAW (2000 something kills) and have rolled with 3.4 Tacti-Eye, Compensator and HVA since BR 30 something. I can personally recommend Wrel's video as a great tutor for any aspiring men out there fit to handle this mighty beast. The one major tip I can think of (assuming you know how to aim, compensate for recoil and burst) is to try to keep still when using this weapon when engaging past 40-50m. The stopping power of the weapon is severely hampered when your bullets aren't hitting as much due to the increased inaccuracy when moving. Of course, when you know there's an infiltrator around, you can break that rule ;) But for the most part, this weapon is literally a 500rpm sniper rifle when you maximize its accuracy by keeping still and laying low.
