I own a F.L.Y. 5 Joystick with Windows 8 as my operating system. Here's what i know. I know that... - I do not want to nor am I going to downgrade. - This thread is NOT a discussion on Windows 8. - This thread is NOT a place to post your opinions about Windows 8. I like it, I have my reason, as I'm sure you do as well but this is not the place for them. - when a game pad is plugged into a computer with Windows 8 operating system installed, Planetside 2 will crash when hitting the "Play" button on the launcher. - when a older version of dinput8.dll is placed in the installation directory of Planetside 2, the crash stops happening. - if Planetside 2 is already running and i plug in a game pad, regardless of new or old dinput.dll, the game does not crash. - under no circumstances has Planetside 2 ever recognized any input from my game pad. Now, heres the weird stuff. No matter what I do, while Planetside 2 is the active window, no game pad buttons work. They don't send any signal to the computer at all. For instance, with xPadder running and having just the joystick, no buttons, mapped to my mouse I can move my mouse around on my desktop with the joystick, however; as soon as I alt tab back into Planetside 2, it no longer works. I can understand that Planetside 2 does not have the methods required to recognize game pad input, but I find it very strange that it cuts it off so that xpadder no longer receives input from my game pad either. It's simple enough to use the program to change game pad inputs into mouse and keyboard commands. The game definitely has the methods to understand those. Now I would be very pleased if someone who has Windows 8 could shed some light on this situation. I'm quite well versed with computers and have had Windows 8 since the consumer preview was available. Otherwise, i hope this thread can provide the developers of this amazing game enough information to fix this issue so that i can fly with my joystick. Also, I do not care about your thoughts on whether or not the developers read the forums. If you do not have any constructive feedback please do not post. If you have encountered the same problem yourself, please post your experience and all the things you have tried to fix the issue. I have troubleshooted the crap out of this problem every which way I can think of and with almost no progress. The best I could do was make it so Planetside 2 doesn't crash when my game pad is plugged in. Which isn't much.
Most Games have ways of blocking botting, this is probably the case, some games make it so that it only accepts direct input from the device mouse/keyboard since its using xpadder its not direct input anymore!
I was thinking something like that would be the cause of it. Do you know if their's a way to properly emulate direct input? Perhaps autohotkey? Probably not seeing as it's a very popular botting tool.
I ask that you please do not further this discussion. We are not talking about which operating system is better. We are discussing solutions other than downgrading. I already understand downgrading may solve my problem, although I have not seen any posts confirming such.
This must be the reason why it keeps crashing for me. I plugged my 360 controller in earlier but i didnt think that would have anything to do with it. I just wish i saw this thread before i uninstalled the game, i still have 34% left to download. Oh yeah, fix the controller support SOE.
They know about this problem and I'm sure they are trying to fix it. They also know PS2 crashes because of many different types of usb connected devices. Just wait, until then you have to use your keyboard and mouse.
I have just finished installing it and it works without the controller plugged in Thanks for bumping the thread Zevoa.
I like this game but i will not play it until this is fixed i refuse to play the game without my joystick for flying. I dont have much fun on foot esp if my friends arent on. Until they get there stuff together and fix this problem this game is goin on the backburner such a shame it could be my favorite shooter if it wasnt for this dumb error and me havin to go back to a dif windows is riddiculus i didnt spend the money to get the new windows to go back to another version. See ya when its fixed if ever......
The way my computer desk is set up it's a pain to get to all of the cabling and since I use my CH HOTAS setup, Track IR, and USB headset in almost every other game I play I'm going have to PS2 a pass until (if) they fix this.
Have you tried running any of the programs involved in win7 compatibility mode? Or don't they have that anymore?
I've got the exact same issue, though I have try a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and Microsoft 360 Gamepad. Running Windows 8 x64.
Same problem here, neither a pluged in Track IR nor my Saitek Hotas or a 360 gamepad let me start the game. Running Win 8 x64. Please fix it, de- and repluggin all the cables for PS2 is annoying!
Just for more hardware. I have the same issue using a Logitech Chillstream and Saitek X52. Rest of my spec (on the off chance it will help): Win 8 x64 Core2Quad Q6600 Asus Rampage Extreme 8GB Corsair XMS ATI Radion HD 6870
Same here, Microsoft SideWinder ForceFeedback 2 as Joystick will cause the game to crash if plugged in when hitting the Play-Button. OS is Win8 64bit Hope this problem will be fixed very soon, it's rly annoying and flying by mouse is definitely not an option. Crouching under ur desk to plug off/in ur device every time is kinda new sport developed by Sony
I just discovered this problem myself. I have the logitech Extreme 3D Pro and although Windows recognizes it, I can bind anything to it in-game. Thanks to the OP for bringing this to light because I was going a little crazy trying to get it to recognize. I also had to replace my dinput8.dll file because the game would not boot up. I saw in another thread my joystick was compatible so I'm wondering if replacing the dinput8.dll has something to do with it. Maybe a different version or something would fix it. Hopefully SOE can shed some light on this. Although this is the first game I've played since SWG made by SOE so I'm not confident in them caring about the gamers at all.
