I thought I'd see if I could play the game properly after the big patch, but I can't even get to the character select screen. After I hit Play in the launchpad, the exe eats up about 3 GB of memory while thrashing the hard drive, then closes without any error message. Anyone else have similar problems, or know what I can do to fix it?

That's exactly what mine did, but mine was actually fixed by validating. Not much help, I know, sorry. In-game performance is just unbelievably bad, though. At this rate, the next patch will just be a big guy coming to my house to break my GPU and question my manhood.
Same here, game freezes at second loading screen before the map - after choosing character - validated game files - restarted PC Doesn't help.
Having the same issue here. After the update installed and I pressed play the game didn't start, not even an error or anything. Instead the launcher just disappeared and left me with my desktop while PS2.exe was chewing up 6GB(!!) of ram in the background. Atm the launcher is validating the files and is installing 757 mb so hopefully this fixes it (it found a lot of mismatches).
I didnt have the original problems you guys had, but the second one about it freezing on the load screen has happened to me as well. When and IF I get it to load in a continent it just sits me at the warpgate with 0 FPS and wont let me do anything.
