Game seems little more than a zerg-fest

Just throwing this out there as it would be great to continue enjoying this game.

After playing for a week and being quite into it, the last day it's been hitting like a brick that it's little more than a zerg fest. If you're in a fight with 60% or more for one side, it's now almost guaranteed to be a pointless fight.

You are either being farmed or you're farming - there's little chance the losing side will do anything but be farmed.

And there are always very few fights that are evenly matched - and soon they become uneven when one side zergs more, then see above. Time to leave the pointless fight and find another area.

Would Call Of Duty and such games be fun if you were always outnumbered? Hardly. Yet this game thrives on wins by that method almost exclusively, which is making it boring as I switch from 50/50 fight to 50/50 fight looking for some skill battles, not "we out-zerged you, we win no matter what you do"

To my surprise I'm getting bored as it's the same pattern over and over again. Numbers wins- it's that simple. Which makes all the postering for equipment, certs, attachments and so on almost pointless as in such matches it doesn't mean a thing. So you look for 50/50 matches where it will mean something. But those are small in number and don't remain that way for long.

Perhaps it would be more interesting if only so many people were allowed in each region so that it would be a (gasp!) interesting fight of skill since now the odds are more even, because once you hit 60% (give or take) one side is just farmed, plain and simple, and it's almost a pointless gesture to stay in there and "fight" as if you might win.

There are alternatives to farming, such as hunting and fishing.

When it's 60/40 there really isn't. Either you're being farmed so badly you can't do anything but die constantly, or your team is farming them so badly there's nothing left to fish or hunt.

If it's 50/50, yes there are many options still open.

If you call that a zerg fest, I'm curios what are you going to call this.

Too much emphisis on kills leads to poor gameplay period. Vech should not be allowed near objectives or spawn rooms or inbetween. Objectives should need to be held for 15 mins without being rehacked before time fully resets. I dont care how much pop you have. If the defenders have 15 mins to reach an objective just once and negate the hack back to 0 it makes it allot harder to spawn camp and attack the point. Hacking should be reserved to an infiltrator class as its his main job. This would change game play dramtically where it would only take 1 solid push by defenders to the point or 1 sneaky cloak er getting in to disrupt massive forces.

    I call that... freedums.

I think we are taking this game too seriously.

    Yes, sometimes there are "Zergs."

But sometimes there are great battles, evenly fought, across open ground, in between bases, around towers, across bridges. These battles are worth the wait.

In the meantime, join the Zerg. Earn some Certs. Advance your character.

Or counter the Zerg. Snipe them from a distance. Pull a tank with a mate and go stick it up their rear.

There are some periods where the only thing to do on Auraxis is ghost cap and fight small 6v6 (or 1v6) fights, but then suddenly it will come to life and a ball will be had :D

Being spawn camped? Go to a different fight.
Spawn camping? Go to a different fight.

I had an epiphany just now. Personally, I never have this problem. I just move to a different fight. It confused me how so many people had this issue. And then I realized that huge numbers of people who play this game move down a single lattice lane in zergs, spawning camping. The zergs I simply walk away from are people. Whoa.

The game needs to encourage more vehicle play, usually one side is needlessly getting farmed while they have stocks and stocks of resources that they refuse to use. Or if they do use them it's for C-4 or maybe a MAX,to encourage players to use vehicles and stand a chance against Zergs the Devs are going to need to nerf infantry AV and buff vehicle surviveability and put vehicle terminals in the spawn room so that instead of having one sided spawn room stand-offs the defenders and attackers realize how much more effective vehicles are and use them instead. The resource system is there to keep vehicle spam in check but if you don't make people do something like pull vehicles or get out of the spawn room they won't do it,especially when the game gives infantry way too many AV options as it is if they can't kill it with rockets or C-4 then they just won't do anything, The devs are going to have to implement some kind of system that FORCES people to use their vehicles instead of just huge infantry zergs with a few vehicles sprinkled in while not really being necessary

Weeks? Quite into it? Hah... :p Not with this learning curve! But I agree with one thing, it IS about raw numbers right now- A factor SOE will NEVER balance in any other way except through Server Merges, for really stupid reasons like not losing players who like to Faction jump or who flock to the most populated Faction for the guaranteed top Certs... I suppose because happy customers do pay, or at least keep playing. I'm not happy, not even 80% of it but I still pay, but FML, right SOE?
In any case, with a steady ~2.5 KD you can make a difference just by going on streaks(Assuming that KD is not due to repeated displays of childish sadism through any of the abundant NO-Skill crutches in PS2). If you want to be real gold, plot your KD streak course towards Capture Point, enemy Sunderer or some other generic objective :3 It's just too random so don't think it's an actual counter to Zergs. By the way... Randomly Sqd others and they may follow like Creeps and finish the job, you never know.

You are 100% correct. I spend more time on the map redeploying then actual playing the game.

Or I should I say I did spend because since I've moved to Emerald (US east coast server), where the population is large even out of prime time, this problem seems to happen much less. I can find plenty of good even matched fights now. I guess when there are more then 48 people per side fighting each other 60% vs 40% fights do last a long(er) time and even the 40% has a chance of winning the fight. Or hold out long enough for reinforcements (as in the game randomly decides there are reinforcement needed so it makes a redeploy point available or an platoon decides to help). And there are also more fights so a bigger chance of finding an evenly matched one. Plus more people is more AMS sunderers so the fight doesn't end when one gets blown up.

At the moment the only time it is a real problem is when my empire decides to play on another continent then the enemy. So you are either steam rolling a continent or constantly losing every base.

An other problem is I am not able to spawn at every fight I would like so I have to either hope the game randomly decides to create a redeploy point or find a squad with a spawn there.

The EU servers are getting a merge to so there should be less problems getting a good fight on those to in the near future.

But but but... Alarox...! Hound the Zerg, don't avoid it! Go defend where they attack, 60 to 80 % of a Zerg is comprised of people who stand in front of Spawn Shields! :'3 It's not that I'm a Spawn Room warrior, it's that they are idiots and I want Certs and KD! ^_^ Nothing bad with playing on Easy Mode now and again. Just bring a mop with you, the tears can make the floor all muddy and slippery when the same people come here crying about how Spawn Room occupants need to be punished for not wanting to be harvested :p

It's also fun to just charge out right before the Base flips and take with you as many unsuspecting peasants as you can! Catch them completely off guard, especially if you save your MAX for that moment! >:D

I'd like to actually defend too but it's impossible first because of the BASE DESIGN, second because of raw numbers obviously. And third, because admittedly some people ARE Spawn Room warriors and won't go out even if they had 10" of GodMode for passing through the Shields. Actually... Interesting idea. Tie this to a Terminal open to Hacking? To a particular Capture Point? To a Generator?

Rank 100s are somewhat common now but maxed out rank players are always somewhat of a surprise to come across in any game.

Primarily because I have never maxed out any rank in any game, even with 1100 hours in BF2 as I never used aircraft and you had to to become a general.

BUT, if you stop and think 20 months later with the ease of farming + XP boosts + XP weekends and 100s will be common.

Although my point being that you have to stick around and put some time in to get there anyway, meaning you have invested a lot of time into the game.

Stay with me - because this would indicate the mentality of the hardcore of the game being as they are the pinnacle of what it has to offer.

So as the lower ranks join and leave and those in the mid realise at last that there is no game and also leave, leaving you with those that just won't give up and THEY give the game its personality.

Leading to the farm based zerg fest that this title is.

And meaning you are either of that mentality and can't see anything wrong with what is one of the worst unbalanced, unenjoyable FPS play experiences I have ever had the misfortune to bother with or you can and don't see why anyone would bother.

So eventually a game becomes the hardcore players as they are the only ones left, making it inaccessible to new players.

Like SMNC and its 130 global 1337 uber soldat MLG pro fans.

RLDT Ad Astra As tu froid - the rank 100s like it this way and the title is designed for their mentality.

If you are in a outfit you can't do that.

If you play solo, than yes, it may be a zerg fest. This is not how PS2 should be played, however.
Only way to not feel like an ant in an anthill that is being flooded by hot water, is to join a competitive outfit and roll with its organized squad and voice comms.

Only if your platoon leader is stupid. Or has a specific plan that involves being spawncamped.

In that case you're the hot water flooding ants in an anthill which can be pretty boring too. That's been my experience with outfits anyway, maybe I need to find a smaller one. Say 2 squads max.

But anyway, when I'm playing solo I just redeploy when the fight hits the spawn room. No big deal.
  20. Evilsooty

Redeploy to the next base with MBTs and come back and try and take out the sunderers. Superior numbers don't mean much if you can no longer spawn!

I always do this and sometimes turn the tide by blowing up a key sundy with my Prowler instead of running from the spawn room into a hail of bullets over and over again. I don't see many others doing it though which is baffling.
