FPS decrease over time

    Hello there
So I have a quite annoying performance problem with PS2

My FPS and everything else is fine when starting up the game no lags nothing but the longer I play the more the FPS degrade.
Especially when "hopping" around places or continents a lot FPS degrade faster.
After estimated two hours (can't really tell the exact time haven't set a timer) of playing my FPS are around 25 with a more or less constant stream from the hard drive.
And it almost seems like my FPS are capped normally when I look up to the sky I get more FPS but not then.
I also get a lot of stutters and FPS-lag when entering new areas no matter if I drive/walk/fly there or deployed there.
So sometimes I wasn't sure if the 48+/48+ battles (with actually way more players in that area) are just too much to handle for my system
    but
when restarting the game and immediately redeploy to that very same area (so the big battle is still going on player numbers have not changed much in 1 minutee of restarting the game) I have "full" FPS again and no stutters!
In the very same battle and area I struggled with 25 FPS just before I restarted the game so it can't be the numbers of players.
Just logging out and back in is not enough have to restart the client.

I've already been in contact with the CS and it seems it's not my system.
What I did under their instructions:
    - checked RAM - my RAM is fine
    - sent them a DXDiag and MSInfo - my system is fine
    - no services or third party programs are interfering
    - deleted PlanetSide2.exe
    UserOptions.ini
    SoundSettings.xml
    LoadingScreen.xml
    InputProfiles.xml
    vivoxoal.dll
vivoxsdk.dll and updated them through the launcher
    - reinstalled the game (deleted all the files which where not deleted by the uninstall manually as well)

    nothing helped

neither CPU or GPU are overheating

I know of a bunch of people in my outfit who have the exact same problem.
Any of you having/had this issue?

CS said this was more direct way to get this problem to the devs so I hope they read it

People have noticed that memory usage increases over time in PS2 for over a year now. It crashed when it exceeded the memory limit of the 32bit client.

If theres a constant stream from the HDD then that likely means youve run out of RAM and your computer is using the pagefile for game data. That would explain what youre seeing.

How much RAM do you have? You need at the very least 8GB. 16GB is preferable.
  3. Norington

Did they really let you go through all that trouble? That's just wrong.

This game is riddled with memoryleaks, that's what the problem is and they know it. The only thing that might help is simply buying more RAM.

And they also said that posting here is a faster way to get to the devs? Wow... I can assure you, even IF any dev ever reads the stuff posted here, as longs as it's not 100% gamebreaking for the majority of the players they won't bother fixing it. Just like the input lag and hitches for example.

It is memory leaks. In fact, if you search through PS2 files - there is a memory leak detector application that they use to collect that data. Too bad their priorities are not on fixing things, but making new guns....
  5. TeknoBug

I haven't had such memory leak issues in quite some time up until the 64bit client update last week. I suspect that what it is.

Just restart the game, happens to me after 5 hours or so,rededploys and restarts it,nothing to worry
Why would you bother asking CS and re installing the game for, this has been there forever ,but the limit was more like 14 hrs before
  7. Sliced

    It's a memory leak.
Also, maybe you're using the HDD for the page file. That would make it even worse.
The only way around it is to get more RAM. However in some cases all that does is buy you time. You still need to restart but instead of 2 hours it becomes 8 hours.

The problem is we get this upon first login... and restarting the game doesn't always fix it AND it gets really back quickly sometimes. Now imagine you just pulled tank/lib only to not be able to fly because of terrible performance.

Play for 2 mins then, when resource timer reaches 2 mins, close it from task manager, you'll get at least something to do next time, rather than acting like sitting duck in your vehicle and complning, just think PS2 is some hard we,it gets heated and doesn't work after 5 hours and needs a 2-3minute restart to make the heat go awayp

In my first message to the CS I said that this looks like a memory leak to me:
hmm seems I have to wait one or two years till they released all guns and new features and start bugfixing
also got another answer from the CS which made me facepalm:

    I have the same issue.
At first i was at West Pass Watchtower with 25-48 friendlies and enemies. There i had around 50 fps.

I later went in my sunderer south to Wokuk Amp Station where there was only me and 1-12 enemies.
For some reason the fps dropped to 30-20, even though there were fewer people there.

This is also a recent thing for me. Since around the 64 bit client. Never used to have fps drops like this.

CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM Ivy Bridge
    RAM: 6144 MBytes PC12800 DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M, 4095 MB
Driver: Nvidia GeForce 337.81 Beta driver
    OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (x64) Build 9600

I can relate to this thread. Have gotten in the habit of restarting the game after each death to remove the "potential" for lag, hitching, stuttering and inevitable frame-rate loss.

Then there are impending warning signs, those times when you can see it coming, rubber banding starts to happen, infantry hop from their location to another - time to log off and grab a snack and let refresh whatever the game is doing.

That OMFG update, gone are those days it's worse than ever now.

    I recently found these threads:

    https://pay.reddit.com/r/Planetside/comments/18o859/useroptions_explained/

I had a look through my useroptions.ini, tweaking everything that could have a performance impact. And it has actually helped. The game seems to run better and more stable.

Here's my modified version of the spreadsheet in the above link:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19-qB0Xc5EzGlv91fJp9elFstj1o19OLslMpFsuIh9Fk/edit?usp=sharing

If you want to try these settings, you can copy and replace the first column into your useroptions.ini.

I have the same problem -- over time, somewhere around hour, my fps starts decreasing.
For example -- at the start of the session, i have stable 60 fps in warpgate, after an hour or so, i ll get stable 55 fps, no matter the settings.
So it had 35 fps in major battles, i can start dipping into sub 30 and i never had that before.
Restarting client seems to be reverting performance back to normal.
  15. PresidentFreeman

I have noticed something similar, although not as severe. My framerate seems to drop by roughly 5 fps every hour, it sits at 60 when I first start the game then by the end of the session it can be as low as 30.

I never noticed an impact in-game though, probably because it is very gradual, as others have suggested in the thread it is likely related to a memory leak.

I think I might log my framerate over the course of a session and see if I can chart the decrease in performance.

Last night I played several hours straight and in the end I was watching quite terrible slide show where fps was somewhere around 25-30 even in empty base, about 20 when in battle. When I start playing it's around 60 in empty base (smoothing on) and dips to 35 in bigger battles.

Quick question: are you using Ultra textures? if so, don't. They were causing the memory leak.
