[Suggestion] Forward Operating Base: Compromise of redeploy/logistics

    Redeployment is often criticized by many experienced players due to the lack of overarching strategy it provides to the game. Redeployment makes the bases feel like servers and the fights feel like rounds, instead of a continuous war. However, redeployment is important to casual players, as it helps them find fights easily.

    Logistics through vehicles is praised by many players for the reason redeployment is criticized. It is said that logistics provide strategy to reinforcement of fights, and punishes factions for misapplication of forces. However, other players do not want to play a "transportation simulator", and argue against logistics.

    Forward Operating Base(FOB)
    Here is the compromise: a Forward Operating Base. An FOB would be a ever-changing base on the map for each faction; one that is close enough to the front lines transportation would not be monotonous, yet far enough so that strategic gameplay can still be achieved. Players would spawn here after entering the continent, and all vehicles except for Galaxies and MBTs should be able to be pulled. Redeployment would still be possible, but one would only be able to spawn at nearby facilities, bases in the same lane, the warpgate, and the FOB.

    As the map changes, the FOB will change as well, depending on how the front line varies.

    FOBs would bring the new dynamic that logistics would give to Planetside 2, yet still maintain the jump-in-and-play aspect that redeployment provides.

    Thoughts? Ideas? Criticisms?

    I think your idea should be implemented on one of the four continents as an experiment. I think tweaking spawn mechanics doesn't take much time so devs could experiment with various solutions on different continents and let playerbase state their preferences.

    Here are some ideas I've been throwing around.

    - Only allow players to redeploy with in the lane they are fighting, this is similar to your idea. Seeing as if you are fighting in a lane you will be able to redeploy forwards and backwards to control the lane, all the way to the Warpgate.

    - Link the redeploy & the squad beacon and make them share the same 3-5 minute timer. This will reduce using the redeploy as an alternative form of transportation. However, do not restrict redeploying into squad Sunderers, Valkyries or Galaxies, this will promote team play, logistics and redeploy zerging.

    - Alternatively, it would be nice to squad or platoon leaders, to set a base as a "base of operations" which would give the platoon or squad a deploy point that can't be removed unless the base is taken. This would allow squad and platoon leaders to set up a base of operation in either a different lane or one more centrally located, or just a base of importance, that they want to be able to quickly get back to if it comes under threat.
