For Anyone Wanting To Run Physx But Are Using ATI

found this little guide and it works very well. Basicly you run a nvidia card with your amd card using hacked drivers. It works well (I'm using a 6950 with a 550ti for physx). On Batman AC and batman AA I would get 22 or so fps with Physx enabled, now with the 550ti doing the Physx processing I am getting 60fps solid.

    A little back story:
Nvidia is making a monoply. David Kanter at Real World Technologies, explored using Intel’s VTune to analyze CPU-based PhysX. He found loads of x87 instructions and x87 micro operations.David speculated that optimizing PhysX code using the more modern and faster SSE2 instruction set extension instead of x87 will make it run more efficiently. His assessment hinted at 1.3 to 2 times better performance. He also carefully noted that Nvidia would have nothing to gain from such optimizations, considering the company’s focus on people using its GPUs. It CAN be done on the cpu and it runs faster, but Nvidia is making a business decision and not optimizing it.

Trouble is nVidia provide financial incentives to game developers to include some nice PhysX effects into their games. If there was no competitive reason for them to do so then you would likely see these kinds of effects just left undeveloped.

Personally I would like to see this kind of stuff processed on my IGD but I doubt Intel are gonna cough up any money to persuade games devs to implement this stuff on a piece of silicon that will likely never ever be used in my system.

So your saying that there is a way to have PhysX enabled in PS2 ???
Or your talking about enabling it for batman by running Nvidia and amd ?
  4. HellasVagabond

It's funny how many times i see AMD fanboys saying that NV should make free what they spend millions to buy......Really amazing.....Glad these people are not running their own companies....
  5. BLKThumb

well im saying that if you are using amd you can get physx, so in a way yes
  6. Angelus359

Does the game have a physX checkbox or something somewhere? I couldn't find one

Btw, ATI hasn't existed for 6 years.

These cards are solely designed by AMD engineers
  7. CobraBoss

So in a way this has absolutely nothing to do with PS2..
  8. SomeRandomNewbie

It's in the graphics settings page, but is greyed out so you can't select it (GPU Physics). Caused a lot of trouble in beta, so they've disabled it outright until they can fix it.
  9. EWarren

Does using Physx improve game performance? I have a Nvidia card but disabled the function
  10. CobraBoss

There is no PhysX ATM in PS2 ..
If there was any implemented unless you have a graphic card with dedicated PhysX chip it may decrease performance by alot.

PS : OP should've retitled the thread to IF ANYONE WANTING TO RUN PhysX IN OTHER GAMES , because everyone thinks now theres a way to have it in PS2 but theres not , i think they have ALOT of work to do before that happens.

    Physx is a gimmick.

  14. BLKThumb

thats awsome but they have physx turned off so ya
  15. Clay Pigeon

Physx became a gimick the moment they disabled physx cards on systems with amd/ati graphics cards. Any developer would be much better off by using a different physics engine that doesn't discriminate based on hardware.
  16. Jestunhi

Still clinging onto an AMD card then, eh?
  17. Clay Pigeon

No. I have nvidia hardware. However, not everyone does. SOE would better serve its playerbase by implementing a physics solution that doesn't require specialized hardware to not be crap.
  18. Jestunhi

An MMO should aim to have low minimum specs to allow a larger amount of people to meet the requirements.

However it is in no way forced to dumb the entire game down to the lowest common denominator. The requirements for maximum settings can be high.
  19. ShriekXL

PhysX is turned off, so it doesn't really matter for now.
  20. Chrysalis

Oh goody, thread derails into AMD vs Nvidia fanboyism while we gloss over how proprietary tech is ******** in 99.9% of applications.
