Final repair tool Cert worth it?

Yeah, you are right! It is only as long as I said, if you let it overheat of course! However, I was annoyed by having to let loose one more time before finishing repair off.

Doesn't change my opinion on the final upgrade though: another reason: keeping MAXes alive for as long as possible, which is also pretty good for your EX - count...nomnomnom

There are two kinds of Engineer players. Those that play support infantry a lot using ammo boxes, MANA Turrets, grenade spam, Biolab MAX super best friends, ect., and those who drive vehicles. A fully certed repair gun is only important if you belong to the second group.

I think the max rank repair gun is worth it in the long run. You can repair vehicles, mana turrets, base turrets, Maxs, Generators, and terminals. Anything that speeds up your repairing can only be a good thing.

If you fly a Liberator and have Nanite Repair III, then no, it's not worth it.

Otherwise, I think it is worth it.

    Jut my $0.02

You need cert inflation or we'd max everything out in a week or two.
It's designed so the first tier of everything gives you the boost for 1 cert point or so, so newbs can get it easily, the later tiers are designed to give vets targets for a few years.

There's also a fairly short window when a continent gets abandoned by your empire after they steam roll it the bonus spikes can hover around 30-40%...decided then and there that's where the final tier shines. If you're into that kind of thing...pretty boring no combat. I can get to the amp stations and towers near enemy warp gates and work my way back redeploying all the way dropping mines at choke points as I go to our warp gate and get megga certs especially if no one has repaired the wg tower turrets. Very happy with my maxed out gun especially during double xp weekends...just about to unlock my burster arm. It's going to be a gift that keeps on giving...until mergers...then population patterns will change.

    You misread me.

I want cert cost inflation. But I also want an equal inflation in benfits gained from that unlock. Right now alot of unlock levels just increase at a flat rate (like the way each level of ammo capacity adds the same amount per level).

    *BUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ*

    Wrong answer.

The idea is that anyone can get the essentials with minimal investment, and that the long haul upgrades provide, a combined maximum total, of only up to 20% benefit.

Which, btw, is a far FAR better way to do this from a balance perspective... otherwise the BR40-60+ would have a MASSIVE advantage over BR10-20 rather then a small advantage.
  9. Highway_Star

But the final levels of all unlocks are too costly to be worth it.
  10. Ronin Oni

SO unlock other stuff until they're all that's left.

Also, in the case of the repair tool... there is no diminishing returns on each upgrade level.... Level 6 is as much an upgrade from 5 as 5 is from 4
  11. M4L4CH1TE

True. And hardly worth it - barely. Except when you have certed out the easier stuff in other areas.
I think it broadens your ability in other classes, weapons, and vehicles without distorting game balance.
  12. Highway_Star

But it is diminishing returns if you look at it in proportion to certs spent.
  13. Ronin Oni

I don't think you get the whole idea still.......

Don't get the final ranks on a cert line until you're ready for it then! Use that 1000 certs to upgrade 3-4 other certs instead!

    FFS.

It is possible to satisfy everyone. Have a flat rate of improvement for the first few levels, and then make it an exponential increase for the final one or two. A bonus for specialising.
  15. Ronin Oni

    negative

If anything, more diminishing returns and more front loading benefits.

because if they did that then people who had been playing for years would dick on new players......
One of the core principles of planetside was a vet is no stronger than a newb..... they've already cut into that a bit in PS2.
FPS players will not accept a game where they lose because they're a lower level.

Diminishing returns = good for all the reasons other people have said. It gives specialising a slight edge, without making specialising too powerful.

...and in a lot of ways the reason for this makes the answer to the OPs question impossible. Those 500 certs are better spent on something more cost effective if you have something more cost-effective to get. Otherwise, repair tool! The more certs you get, the fewer cost effective things you have to spend certs on, so things like the final repair tool upgrade become more viable.
  18. Highway_Star

Holding new players hands should only go as far as offering a decent tutorial IMO.
  19. Redshift

You don't understand this at all do you -_-

Go play wow or something, smash your lvl one face into a top level player... see how much fun it is.....

FPS's don't have level zones..... so the golden rule is all players should be the same strength. If higher level players are stronger no one will play. End of. If you can't understand this please go and research it.
  20. Highway_Star

I think you're all underestimating the average gamer here. If it's challenging at the start - that is motivation to level up and get better.

If leveling up offers almost no improvements, like now, then they're more likely to quit. Why carry on if my playing experience will remain unchanged?

We have two different perspectives on the same problem - but I think there's room to satisfy us both if the devs looked into it.
