Final repair tool Cert worth it?

Is the last cert for the repair tool worth the 500 certs? Is there a noticable difference?
I tend to play the repair guy and although I get my fill of mine and gun kills it is usually secondary when playing engie.

Did you notice the difference between the 3rd and 4th tier? Because if I remember correctly, it's the same.

If you are in a vehicle much, it's definitely worth it. The last cert is the only one that allows you to repair a base turret in just two full uses.

Personally i found it not worth it.

Basically all the final tiers of everything with a few exceptions aren't worth it unless you are dedicated to that class and/or have most the other stuff you want.

    Pretty much what he said.
Only when you reach the point where you can't improve your class any more without dumping hundreds of certs is it really worth it.

It's better to upgrade those things you use a lot on an equal level, rather than one at a time as the final levels are relatively minor upgrades for the price you're paying.

Then just like any repair man. You make your money repairing things. anything that helps you repair faster, makes you more money (certs) in the long run. Repairing six base turrets in 2 scans each rather than 3, gets you more certs faster. I can stay with a tank and repair longer, and keep them alive easier.

I made up the certs I spent on it in a few hours. It is my main way of gaining certs, so for me it was definitely worth it.

I'd only recommend it if you're specialising in the Engineer. Otherwise those 500 certs could be used to improve other classes you like. Thats my advice for all the 500-100 cert cost uprades.

IMO all upgrades should give improvements equal to their cost, so a 500 cert cost upgrade should offer twice the buff of the 250 cert upgrade.

As an aside, it's interesting to note that few Engineers recommend the final level for their tool, whereas all Medics recommend getting the final level for the medigun. I wonder if that's fair to Engineers vis-a-vis Medics? Then there's the other classes... this game is hard to balance =S

I would love it if it was a speed increase, even if it took three full cycles to repair a turret. Sadly it isn`t.

500 cert investments are meant for when you have maximized a lot of stuff out. If you're asking if it's worth it it's probably not.

I personally have it because I kinda feel like there's nothing much left that is that important for me to cert in to for infantry now. It's all marginal upgrades. When you get to that point yourself then you will know it's time to consider the repair tool.

I run Engi almost 100% of the time with lvl 5 repair tool. I also have a 6 month subscription (+50% XP) and I was in on the Alpha Squad deal which as of recent means I get another 50% XP boost for the next 6 months. In all, this means I can get roughly 12 to 14 XP per "blip" on base turrets and generators. If I stay on my toes and use a Scythe to patrol to every base after large battles then I can get roughly 1.5-2 certs per minute. On a slow day I can get somewhere around 14,300 - 15,200 XP per hour which is about 1 cert per minute which usually happens when I have to fly between bases to fix a few turrets here and there.

Under all circumstances the repair tool will only run for about 11 seconds before it overheats with a 4 second cool down if you don't let it "click". With the level 5 repair tool I can have a destroyed base turret back up in 2 very well timed repair cycles which comes out to 26 seconds. I can do the same with a generator (minus the SCU which is the same as a turret) in 1.25 repair cycles which is about 18 seconds.

For me, it was worth it. It equals the fastest cert gain I have when none of my outfit members are on. During double XP? It's all I do aside from chasing point caps with a zerg. Anyhow, this only really works if you have the same XP boosts that I have.
Otherwise, if you are not getting any boosts and don't plan to then just stick with the Level 4 repair tool.

The answers are spot on for what I expected. Thanks folks.
Since I tend to only get boosts every once in a blue moon I'll hold off on the final purchase.
...probably get the lazer pointer for the front of my shotgun so I can do more than snipe with it. ;-)

TBH the med tool upgrades are much better than the glue gun upgrades. All our upgrade does is make it repair a bit faster (maybe cooldown faster? Feels like it but may just be my imagination). The med tool upgrade increases their range which is a huge benefit, I wish our upgrades increased the glue gun range too. From a practical perspective the way their rez improves is nicer too. Although the way xp works they kind of get screwed if they max out their tool, although I suspect that will be balanced out eventually.
  15. Kongorr1

I totally agree that the med tool upgrades feel much more apparent and useful than the "glue gun" upgrades.

About your last sentence: from reading a thread on the Medic board, the concensus is that the time saved in being able to rez ppl to full life, not have to wait for them to respond to heal them up for the last 25% (and thus a bit more xp), is totally worth the apparent loss of xp because you can both rez more ppl in the same time and/or be less exposed to the enemy whilst reviving because of that rez speed.

I mean, to add to my original post, Medics are totally thrilled with final level medigun, whereas Engies are very much "meh" about theirs. Just an observation.

You what in the what? Get extended magazines or get something else entirely.

I have the extended magazines and the something else. ;-)

If you have to ask you're not a real Engineer

If you like playing engineer (or driving vehicles a lot) for sure! It can save your (or other) vehicles many times, Also, you can repair a turret with only one cool-down phase inbetween, which should be a solid 15-20 sec advantage. If I would be to start all over again, I would definitely get it earlier then I got it now.
  20. Adamar09

Compared to what, the second to last level? If you don't click it the second time it's a few seconds saved at best, but you don't have to pay as much attention.
