Amidst all the b*tching and screaming, I'd like to doff my hat to PS2's sound engineers. They've done a staggeringly good job. The distant booms of tank guns, the crack-whistle of near misses, the SCREEE of aircraft passing overhead.... it makes of even a medium-sized battle an immersive feast. Thanks, gents. For you, at least, PS2 is a finished work.
I have to agree. I'm running with an Asus Xonar sound card and logitech z series speakers and the sound is spectacular. The separation on the xonar is better than the x-fi titanium I have so the xonar is my personal choice. Granted...it's a hot-rodded xonar, but that just re-iterates the great sound I hear in this game. Makes it so easy to determine what direction shots are coming from and even possibly how far away.
The sound is average. Want good tank sounds? Listen to some of the sound mods from World of Tanks. And rifles? My battle rifle sounds horrible.
I really love the sound of massed explosions in this game. It always makes me cringe a little bit when I hear a nearby detonation. The NC voices sound like little kids. TR is ok, Vanu sound REALLY whiny when asking for batteries all the time
In time, I'd imagine we'll be able to pick our own voices. In PS1 we had Youthful Guy (which is what we have now), Old Grizzled Guy, and Mister Heroic Guy (think Buzz Lightyear). I'd like to be able to do that again.
