Faction specific mines and how they work

It somehow feels that the dev team set out to do ESF mines at one point, got the Claymore done, made the NC betty and then just realised they had to ship the game so they just copied it for the Vanu.

I get killed by plenty of claymores.

Just set it inside a doorway facing inward. Guaranteed kill.

I am aware of this, but this also proves my point that Claymores have a tactical disadvantage over the others. They need specific spots at specific angles to be effective, whereas the prox mines and betty's can be placed anywhere.

If its true that TR have mines which do not hit you if you stand behind them then that is a brilliant feature, and personally one I would prefer over the NC mine. Many times I have been defending a tower at Point A and I have placed a mine in the door way. The disadvantage of doing this is that I have to stay away from that door, and so does any one else that is holding the position with me. Tonight I was defending with my outfit and it was me and a MAX and some TR came through the door where I had placed a bouncing betty. The blast damaged my outfit member which then forced me to repair. I got shot in the back while doing so.

There are many advantages to the weapons we have, we just have to find the right situations for them.

You gotta stay behind them though, and in a situation like that, the Claymore blast cone will be pointing towards the point. (like say in a tower where the capture point is in the small room on the second floor). Because if we were to point the claymores into the direction of the walkway, people will see the green beams, and detonate it from a safe distance.

I know! These purple guys have killed me so many times I gotta return the favor! :D

VS mine - 1 meter coverage
TR mine - THREE meters coverage- can effectively cover most of the doorway when placed behind the door

Bouncing Betties and Proximity mines also frequently clip through the floor.

The difference is that, when they do this, they aren't visible at all, while the top half of the Claymore sticks out.

Claymores do the exact same damage as the other mines. They have the same range.

The only difference is that they're significantly more visible and they only attack in a certain angle. It's pretty ridiculous.

Unfortunately, since the stats doc got wiped, we no longer have the data on this, but Claymores always lagged significantly behind Proximity Mines and BBs in kills and scores/hour.

It's just a very bizarre design choice to make one of the mine types have really no advantages over the others while making it significantly larger and more noticeable while having a less useful blast radius.

    look at post #27

Where are you getting your data from?

  12. Quite Spiffing

    Graphical queue? The lightbeams?
  13. zuludown88

All you've done is provide claims on the area covered by the mines without any warrant.

And even if the trigger radius for Claymores is larger, the damage radius is the same. So all you'll be doing in most cases is triggering the mine before it gets in the "kill" distance.

Frankly I'm amazed that anyone would defend this concept.
  14. Ronin Oni

Interior doorways are only 1 meter wide man
  15. Ganelon

They don't have a longer range, they have a pie slice from the Bouncing Betty's and Prox mine's damage radius.

"Well, the trouble with our VS friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so."

Faction lore. "The Terran Republic prefers to stick to proven technologies rather than adopt the new."
It's why you still use bullets instead of guass or lasers
  18. St0mpy

    Claymore accuracy 25%
    Prox/BB accuracy 33-36%

    also, kills per hour;
    Proximity Mine 186
    Bouncing Betty 177
    Claymore 156

Not sure why they call claymores proven technology :)

There is such an easy fix to this, just make the TR mine look like this:
And make it behave the same as BBs or Proxy mines. I have no idea why this has been ignored for so long... maybe if we all went over to reddit were the devs actually are....

Believe it or not, I think most NC and VS infs would prefer to have a claymore option.

A claymore has a farther OHK cone that will cover an entire doorway. Basically if you run through a door with a claymore and you don't have flak armor on you die. Because of its range you can tuck the claymore behind a corner, making it impossible to shoot without first setting it off by proximity, and the claymore's OHK angular cone covers the whole doorway.

You can also hide behind them, making them much better for tactical retreating. Its explosion hits you and not me.

Before they nerfed the OHK cone I would have said I was jealous of the NC and VS mines but I'm really not anymore. I'll keep my claymores thank you.
