F2P,Certs, and you

I've done lots of volunteer work and even more art & modding resources for no profit at all. How much have you done?

Then again I'm really not one of those people "whining" that F2P's don't get enough certs.... I'm pretty well convinced that not even the Monthly subscribers are getting their fair share for the amount of dedication required to justify that expense. And both camps (F2P's especially) are not being rewarded proportionately for Defense versus empty base capping & other farming techniques. There's really not much argument on that point either. So if your whole schpeal here was just to try and convince yourself that spending money makes you a better person in some sort of twisted AynRandian logic in a game ironically "bread-line" based much more off of an almost Communistic hive-mind Meta.... then I think you still have some Maturing to do as a young adult, or atleast some studying to do as a student.

Well I am a volunteer firefighter/emt for my community, I have over 300 hours of training that is required to even be on the squad. We wont even get into the countless hours that I log actually going out on calls, performing maintenance, and fundraising.

That being said I still expect my job to pay me when I do work. If we just gave away our goods and services for free and hoped that we got paid then I don't think we would be in business very long.

You can get any gun you want this Friday for a whopping $3.33. The Devs have bills and stockholders to answer to. If you don't want to spend money on a weapon then why would you expect people to spend money on a cosmetic item that you can't even see when you are playing?

In no way did I state I was a better person because I spent money on the game but I think people who complain about not getting everything they want in 4 weeks come across as very entitled and not very knowledgeable in how business works.

Nothing is stopping people with the knowledge and skills to make a game like Planetside 2 from doing it and making it completely free just hoping it survives off donations. Why do you think this hasn't occurred?

Right, so why aren't they offering a competitive business model against other Free to Play titles.

I've never heard of a game dying that has too many players and fans and supporters but not enough revenue.

There is a graveyard full of MMOs and F2Ps that didn't do enough to bring players in and keep them.

    WRONG WRONG WRONG.

    I'm not F2P.

But F2P players provide over 90% of our content. The sheer stupidity of people like YOU is what is going to drive this game into the ground. Cert gain needs to be severely boosted, because we need to keep players. If we were going to just **** F2P, why bother releasing it as F2P to start with you moron. So we can all enjoy our 12v12 battles 6 months from now when the F2P player base has been driven away by the mind bogglingly high cert prices? **** no and **** off. I am a P2P and I want lower cert prices or higher cert gain for ALL.

To people saying the Devs are having to answer to stockholders; stockholders won't have any money to gain if we leave due to ridiculous cert gain and cert prices that need obviously lowered and balanced.

The incentive is the more entertaining the game is the more likely people will spend money. One-thousand certs or $7 is just too high. Considering the amount of weapons to unlock for every class, vehicle, and empire, I'm surprised they didn't go with 200-300 certs or $2-3 dollars per weapon. The choice everyone is given: grind hundreds of hours or spend more than what it would cost to buy five new games unlocking everything. This is absurd, because PS2 is unique in that it has zero content without players, and it seems SOE is doing everything it can to push them away with an overwhelming grind or price tag.

Oh, and I'm a free-player for one reason: I'm not a stranger to SOE. Every game they make suffers from the same pitfall: great for the first month, the problems start surfacing, and it takes months or over a year to get everything in working order. PS2 has now been out for a month and, well, that's all I'll say. Honestly, If I knew about the tedious grinds, I would have bought the game for $50 to have everything, or most things, unlocked just so I could have checked out a few things that looked fun.

You're missing the point. Encouraging players to spend money on a F2P game should not be "Look - just buy something; it will take you less time in real life than in-game." If I have to explain why that isn't a good idea, there is no point continuing any further.

Cushy unemployment or growing up - cute. Chances are I'm older than you, guy. I said this in another post... I'm a free-player for one reason: I'm not a stranger to SOE. Every game they make suffers from the same pitfall: great for the first month, the problems start surfacing, and it takes months or years to get **** working well. I think it's safe to say PS2 is right on track. Honestly, If I knew about the tedious grinds, and had the option, I would have bought the game for $60 (everything, or most things, unlocked), just so I could have checked out a few things that looked fun.

If you think 1,000 certs for a weapon is too high, then go for the low-hanging fruit instead. There are some small arms that only cost 50 or 100 certs, and vehicle weapons that 'only' cost 100 or 250 certs. There are some awesome things within that price bracket (Bulldog grenade launcher for the Sundy immediately comes to mind).

To date that 250 cert Bulldog is my most expensive purchase.

Alternatively, you could just buy upgrades for money. Oh wait, you can only buy weapons directly, so you'd just have to save up for those like everyone else.

Why do people feel the obsessive compulsive need to unlock EVERYTHING. I play HA as my main class. For my main weapon, I've only needed to unlock two scopes. The rest will never be certed. There are only a few attachments I've unlocked to specialize the weapon, the rest will remain uncerted. I unlocked the Gauss Saw S for its fire select mode - 250 CP. I have no need for another gun, the rest will go uncerted. The idea that you MUST very everything goes against the core concept of "Play Your Way".

You think it's too high. Others will think $3 is too high. The only way to make everyone happy is to give it all away for free, which is great for popularity but bad for business. I personally don't mind either the SC or the CP prices. I have.a job and disposable income, so it has, little effect t on me. That said, I wait for SC deals and gear discounts. And I never buy anything I can get with CPs.

Nothing I've seen in PS2 makes me think they are going the wrong direction. I will support them as long as they keep doing what they are doing. What I hope they don't do is pander too people who don't appreciate their hard work.
