I've had one occasion of seeing someone act suspicious. It's the one where their character is warping across an area every second while still being able to shoot. The person racks up kills and is extremely hard to catch. I've managed to land bullets by aiming at a spot they previously warped to and waiting for them to pop up.

It's either a hack or the worst example of lag. Or.. some other means of manipulating character placement.

    Mad cuz bad?
  3. Zotamedu

Agreed, the servers have been acting up and the hit detection is borked. I have emptied a full clip from my Cycler into an enemy only to have him turn around and shoot me. I've also had many many mutual kills.

I dunno, I'm not that great, heck a 0.25 KD, so I know I suck, and I know when I got beat.
A friend plays on my comp sometimes as I watch, try and teach me a few things,
guy's good man, 4 and 5 KD all the time doing HA. I play, and back to the usual.
So I'm Skeptical, cuz I've seen what a good player can do.
He tries to teach me, but I just can't do it. getting too old I guess. :(
    but I still have fun.

This exactly. In almost 2 years I have seen 3 hackers so far. I dont think there are any working hacks for ps2 atm, and that most hackusations are done by either bad players or by players that are switching up "glitching" and "hacking" (such as glitching trough the biolab shield with a liberator, or glitching the spawnshields by mobing our of render range.

I don't see much in the way of hackers from VS. I see some really good players that a LOT of players don't know how to deal with, but that's about it. Do they exist? Probably, but I don't think it's a rampant problem.

Wonky hit detection and increased client side lag issues are most likely to blame here TorigomaSET.

We've seen some real hackers in our day. Remember the warp speed galaxies? Or that guy standing on top of the smoke stack at Hvar tech plant headshoting everyone? Or that guy who no clipped into the capture point, killing everyone and making it uncapturable for like an hour? Those were real hacks.

With how bad lag, hit detection, and client side have gotten, I have a hard time calling anyone a hacker right now unless it is painfully obvious.
  8. Gammit

Only issue I've seen lately is one where the VS somehow got a Sunderer parked under the tower at Howling Pass.
  9. ronjahn

Did you get to see the AMS we SET up and deployed on the air pad at Feldspar Canyon the other day? Totally legit.
  10. Mustarde

There's only one VS player that I can't get over, despite some people trying to tell me he is legit. I will probably never be convinced without unedited gameplay video over the course of an hour or two, during which I'd watch intently.

Other than that, I haven't seen blatant cheaters in a while. We can all suspect the "subtle" cheaters, but there's no real way of proving it, and furthermore, such an issue is not specific to Emerald VS.
  11. Wafflepancake

I dunno.. Last night came across three (what looks like to me and many others) blatant hacks. called em out in /yell and those from VS agreed ( When only that one person seems to be warping across the minimap, running/shooting through walls, kinda hard not to.) We all called for TK and the battle kinda..stopped. As (almost) everyone turned to hunt down this spoil sport.
It was nice to see the two factions work together to improve the community.

Devs and GM's are only gonna ban that one account.
If we as a community work together on this witch hunt - it will deter those violators from playing in this manner. In due time.

There are lots of cheaters on Emerald, true. Aimbots, no-recoil, maphacks, stuff like that is everywhere.
  13. Akuzimo

I'm going to be that guy and just say that there's literally nothing we can do. What should we do? Throw them out of their outfits? If they hack, they won't care. Report them? Does it work any better than normal? TK them? That's a good way to have punitive action put on you.

The VS leadership can't do anything about hacking. Just the same as the TR and NC can't do anything about theirs. Aside from reporting and possibly vids, the ball is in SoE's court
  14. JibbaJabba

The thing is, once someone convinces themselves that a person is a cheater there is NOTHING that can be done to change their mind.

I got accused of cheating over the weekend. All attempts at discussion resulted in "don't play dumb". The person was convinced. So I ignored them and went on with my life.

I'm not saying there isn't cheating happening. I'm saying don't be "that guy" and absolutely insist someone is cheating and close your mind off to all other possibilities.
  15. Idle

I haven't seen any Aimbots in a long time so SOE has done well on reducing that or the botters have made 1's that are harder to pin down as hacks.

The only one I see very rarely are speed hacks. People who shoot and strafe back and forth in a blink of an eye. Moving 5 times faster going side to side then they could sprinting forward. By the way if you every run into them just aim in the middle of the side to size movement at head height and they headshot themselves so its not an unbeatable hack. (No its not just players using adrenaline. They are much faster then those players.)

And maybe wall hacks but like people said the game is buggy so you can never be sure. The short month Ive been on Emerald I haven't noticed VS to have a major hacking problem the worst faction I have seen were VS Connery back in the day but they are pretty clean now and I haven't noticed any for a long time. ( 1 VS Connery speed hack that I didn't bother reporting because he killed me once while I got him twice so it wasn't helping him much.)

Like others have said I ve only reported 3-4 people who I m 100% sure are hacking most times(Been playing since Beta.) I get that they are hacking feel I have to see the hacking over and over again. ( Getting headshoted alot isn't grounds for that as some people are amazing shots.)

The only Aim botter I reported was a guy who was wiping out 4-5 people coming at him from 4 different directions and he headshotted all of them 3 times in a row within 3 seconds. As in he was able to head shot the people in front and behind him at the same time.

Well now that you mention it, some of my engagements with VS GOKU and TRID troops seem awfully suspicious. I run the game at 60 FPS in all but the most clusterf*ck of AMP stations. I should never be taken by surprise or miss shots etc etc. Yet sometimes I just get utterly bested by a VS heavy. And what is he using? Yeah, Orion/SV-88 and moonwalking across my goddamn screen getting these ridiculous headshots.
  17. Frigidman

I've played these darn MP FPS games for a long time (varying brands and labels), and although I am not super-awesome, I can spot suspicious ~skill~ situations due to the experience of witnessing cheats in prior games and how they behave. Flashbacks to the days of Quake Aimbots that were so easy to spot by pausing for a second at the edge of a wall before running into a room and seeing a rocket fly by the corner where you WOULD have been had you not paused, haha.

I know when a player is just really good, or somehow unholy-empowered by something that most normal players are not privy too.

In this game I have seen a lot of crazy crap that makes me think hacker/exploit/cheat... but normally I write them off as buggy or my poor latency. The difference between a 95ms ping (my avg), and a 20ms ping, is make or break most situations between good players of equal skill.

I suffer a bad dsl line, and I have gotten used to "being killed through the wall", only because the latency actually has me outside of the wall. I do a lot of ADAD dancing manually to reduce my latency issues, but its not exploiting. If I don't, then I am usually dead in two shots before my machine receives the info =p
  18. JibbaJabba

Just did a search for PS2 cheats as if I was trying to find one to use... Oh man. Not Good. There are a lot of them available out there. I hope Sony does the same searches...
  19. Stormsinger

I have seen very few obvious hacks, most of what i've encountered can be easily attributed to the buggy game engine. (I've had mossies fall limply to the ground in front of me, after which it collected a few rockets. The pilot was actually dogfighting 1.5km away, but... clientside hit detection happened, and my client thought his ESF was unmanned and on the ground. )

What I would be interested in knowing, is how the heck something like this can be countered.

tl;dr : the above is hardware / bios / motherboard based ESP, footstep sound boosts, in game radar that displays enemies based on triangulation via surround sound input, all with a handy overlay.
  20. Plunutsud pls

Everyone who kills me is hacking (LEL)
