Dual Wielding..what exactly?

Ahem, Mr. Malcmodnar? There are three guys in huge armored suits waiting to talk to you outside. They didn't specify a subject they wanted to talk about, but they seemed to make some suggestive gestures with their dual wielded guns.

My problem with the dual wielding idea (aside from potential balance issues) is that it adds nothing of value to the class, it's basically a cosmetic change. I don't think the LA class needs any more firepower which is the only thing dual wielding might be good for.

I'd rather see some interesting class specific abilities or tools added instead.

I think dual wielding would work. I feel there can be synergy in the dual wield update with the melee update. Basically I see LA becoming more of a cqc specialist. Imagine instead of flying off after dropping c4 into a group you drop in and finish off the survivors with a tomahawk and a couple bursts from a hip fire only carbine. The melee update can potentially give a dual wield class some brutal short range punch.

At first I thought Dual Wielding LAs would be awful, but then I thought of the MAX, and how you die in a MAX it presets to Light Assault, simply put, Light Assaults are trained for using MAX suits, and inherently dual-wielding, they're also trained to use jet-packs, so wouldn't their training also include firing more accurate while in the air?

Dual-Wield or Accuracy +Flight Accuracy with 1 gun, Why not MOAR JUMPJETS?! while we're at it.

Maybe the day will come when I can fly around with dual grinders dropping on people and shredding them before they can tear apart my puny MAX-without-a-MAX

I think PS1 had some sort of Heavy Assault/MAX combo, REXXO or something, forgot what it was called.

The vanu max specific ability was a jetpack IIRC, TR was still lockdown and NC had a shield they could fire with if I remember right. Probably thinking of the last one.

I think it would have made more sense if the LA could carry two primaries with one replacing their secondary. Possibly with a reduced amount of reserve ammo for both guns. Logic behind this is that LA often will not have the ability to run back and get another gun, so being able to carry two would be more beneficial to the class. The secondary slot could still contain pistols, but you could also slap a shotgun or something in there, too. Unlocked by default because that is how I roll  (and it would be the classes special thingy like hacking or ammo drops)

On a more serious note, being able to carry both a ranged weapon and a close ranged weapon allows you to operate without changing load outs constantly, a huge buff to those who use it for scouting or in rapidly shifting battlegrounds. And it makes more sense, from a scout and flanking standpoint, than dual wield ever will.

I personally think dual wielding is a bad idea. Hard to balance, hard to satisfy those who are crying for dual wield, and is guaranteed to piss off at least 25% of current players. Chances are those 25% are the people who play and pay for this game the most. Just my .02

Like it's been said, it could provide for a accurate way of shooting while in the air.
Other than that, yeah it's useless. SMG's already provide the type of close range combat dual wielding would cover.

YES. I really hope they bring a LA exclusive suit slot for dual primaries in the class update. No pistol though, in this case.
  9. Iridar51

What's so good about that idea? Everyone will just carry a shotgun in the secondary slot, which is about as interesting and skill demanding as watching paint dry.
  10. MuchachoBob

That's some very contagious optimism i'm seeing there.
Well, I wouldn't carry a shotgun, I actually like running that with a pistol and the ASC.
The good thing would be being able to transition between different enviroments smoothly and without feeling handicaped, wich is as good thing, cause we go everywhere all the time and there isn't always a sundy nearby to swith loadouts.
Giving up certain things like ASC or ammo belt would be a big deal to me, though.
Also if this was available, I don't think we should be able to carry C4 or medkits along with it.
  11. Iridar51

Sooo... Give up suit slot, sidearm and utility slot for a shotgun? No thanks.
  12. Tar

Nothing. It's a childishly stupid idea.
  13. Kriegson

    Works well for the MAXs.
  14. Tar

With max-specific weapons which on themselves are weaker than any normal infantry weapon.
And after being tweaked several times so that they effectively both shoot from the camera.

But yes do please supply some more barely related, yet also problem-laden analogies.
  15. LownWolfe

The problem with this is that everyone assumes it will be dual wielding existing weapons. That would indeed be a terrible idea, however, they will go with a release of primaries that are inherently dual wielded and balanced as such. Crack open your wallets and get them Smed Bucks ready for the gold plated NS-11D dual TMPs.

I'm pretty sure that he meant "if it works for MAXes, it can work for LAs".
Higby didn't said anything about dual wielding existing weapons. What if only special, weaker versions can be dual wielded? Some new weapons, that put together are closer to being sensible than dual wielding Armistices.

If it's only a tiny bit stronger it's just gimmicky, in my opinion. It wouldn't really add to the LA's function or help in teamplay aspects. Especially if LA has to sacrifice their jetpack, which actually provides a significant gameplay aspect.
  18. Iridar51

Oh no, don't get me wrong, giving up jet pack for dual wielding is incredibly stupid.

All I'm saying is that there are ways of making dual wield useful without being overpowered, for example, the often mentioned mid-flight accuracy.
  19. Tar

in that case it's only cosmetics and as such not worth discussing it, let alone performing the dev work.

There's tons of other stuff that might actually improve the game - the very idea...!

i say give LA something like taped mags every other reload is 50% faster, not op but still not bad
