Drifter Jump Jets, how did they affect gameplay?

There was another pilot attitude in the air game before Drifter Jump Jets hit the game.

Nowadays every second ESF pilot uses LA with Drifter Jump Jets to fly their ESF, for what? To bail and use C4 against a 360°mobile-aircraft after a lost fight to redeploy within 28 seconds or to simply save a playerkill, your playerkill?

Seems its a bit easy to repair his vehiclel for 25% every 45secs without being engi and survive every fall dmg.

This is like 90% of the usage of Drifter Jump Jets...

The other 2 reasons to use this are either for infantry vs infantry (0-1 per 4h+ session) or to C4 MBT´s from a higher position. Too bad these targets are mainly locked down prowlers or slow moving vanguards without shield because theyre just easy tagrtes. AV-Drifter Jump Jets became more of a trait for more mobile tanks than being NS and distubed the air-game in general.

Sry but this thing didnt improve anything, it just made more MBT imbalance and made ESF losers bail to cheat the winners playerkill. Thats it. Nothing more or less.

What kind of ******* idiot do you have to be kill by a guy you spotted from far away? you know you can just run away, you quicker than them -_-
  3. Xellon

Well, I for my part, just laugh at Folks who jump out of their ESF when their end is unevadeable - puny little cowards.
C4'ing Tanks is also not up my alley - I think it's far to ineffective compared to other Infantry-based AV solutions.

But I really, really like my Drifters on my LA. Drifters, and my Slug-filled Mauler S6. I can do pretty well with this combination, the massive fuel capacity and horizontal speed allowed me to do things I couldn't have done with normal jumpjets, especially when it comes to quickly flanking enemys. I've also managed to do some pretty kinky stuff including some bridges and an SMG... But thats another Story.

TL;DR - Drifters are cool and add to the game since they allow for a different LA Playstile.
  4. SuperTrooperWaterloo

So you say the only purpose of this thing is to waste time until the target can use redeploy for 10 seconds for 28secs+ in mid air or around an objebt after they landed for an unlimited amount of time?!? NICE, best usage ever!
  5. SuperTrooperWaterloo

Sry but like i said, its 90% ESF bail pilot and 10% other stuff... LA infantry gameplay is like 1% dureng every session..... thats just not eought....

    [IMG][IMG]

Its not a hoax, 90% LA pilots, then MBT C4 LA´s and thes rest is 0-1 encounters with LA drifters durin infantry fights.... thats poor...

Drifters have purposes outside of bailing, but they are so situational that it's not really worth using them. I don't think they are worthless, just one of the many things in the game that doesn't appeal to a lot of people.

As for pilots bailing, I'm pretty sure they do it just to keep a high KDR. The C4 thing is just something to do while waiting to redeploy, since there isn't much else to do. If you listen to some pilots, such as Mattiace, they bail to be more efficient. If they can do it right, they end up in a battle where they can get a few more kills before anyone notices that they are there. And he does have videos of himself doing just that. However, the vast majority of bails I see(and I mean just about all of them) end up in the middle of nowhere, often with the pilot trying desperately to avoid being shot before he can redeploy. They aren't terribly difficult to pick out of the air though, as long as I don't need to focus on other things and my teammates aren't in the way.
  7. Crayv

I use drifters almost exclusively. The massive amount of fuel and ability to skate along the ground is very addicting.

You couldn't be any more wrong on them being situational and that can only mean you either don't know how to use them or barely have.

They are the most consistent out of the 3 jet types and favour much more methodical play.
  9. CorporationUSA

Sure, methodical play works when the situation permits it. The default jump jets have versatility, which makes them useful far more often to the average player.
  10. AxiomInsanity87

No it works all the time and nets a ton of kills. Not only that bt drifters allow me to move quicker than running and move around more aka consistent

The other jets packs are more situational, they run out of fuel quicker and are generally useful in bursts aka inconsistent. The icarus are useful for attempting to run away (and usually failing) or scaling towers.

You've barely used LA have you.
  11. Liewec123

since drifters were improved the standard and icarus jets might as well not exist for me,
drifter is just too good to not use! :D
(especially at bases near a biolab with jump pads)

Why are you so hostile to some1s opinion?

'You've barely played LA have you', no need for that type of comment, yes his opinion differs to yours but theres no need to try and discredit him just so yours stands up more.

Its a habit i see all over these forums, ive probably done it myself, but we need to be rid of it, its just creates a bad atmosphere around here. As a community we need to let people make up their own minds who they agree with, not try to coerce there opinion.

Well thats my opinion anyways :p
  13. AxiomInsanity87

I'm not being hostile at all, just calling it how i see it lol.

To say that drifters are very situational is completely false as they are the most consistent in mobility out of the 3.

This is also called general discussion, not "spout stuff and not talk about it".
  14. Anonymous Qwop

The problem isn't Drifter Jets, it is ejecting. Any jet, even Icarus can allow the pilot to bail and land safety. Also, there are ways for pilots to survive without being a Light Assault.

A fix to this problem is to not allow the person to do anything about ejection until they land. This way only people with the ejection system equipped can bail because they are sacrificing a component of their aircraft for the purpose of bailing.

I clearly stated what you said that i was referring to.
If you want to totally ignore my point then fine, no problem.
  16. Demigan

I use Drifters almost exclusively. They might be slow in climbing, but they go higher than the other two jumpjets eventually. You can also reach much, much farther and use some nifty tactics. With normal and Icarus jumpjets most of your travel is still ground-based, I can use any antenna or high object to reach almost anywhere in a base unnoticed.
  17. p10k56

They were great. Before ADS was removed. Hailstorm + IR scope work so nice:(
Also before nerf one could easily achieve nice speed bonus when using them from higher ground.
Nowadays Drifter is shadow of its former glory, but still fun to use.

Shame on devs for nerfing something so sporadically seen:mad:

Also if you crouch during drifting it will add some almost unnoticeable speed bonus;)
  18. AxiomInsanity87

If you want to try to say that discussing in gameplay discussion is a bad habit, then i'll happily ignore anything you ever put lol.
  19. AxiomInsanity87

    100%

    Hossin is stunning with drifters.
  20. stalkish

You know full well what im saying, your attempt at a troll in cringeworthy.

At least you got me to respond tho, fair play.

Also, deflecting is usualy done by someone who realised they are in the wrong and doesnt have the humilty to accept it. Just thought id let you know.
