Dogfighting is Annoying

Okay. Point is, SOE backed down due of community intervention. It might come up again, but I seriously, seriously doubt it.
  2. Yuki10

Its the fault of the flight mechanics in the game. Because aircraft has this ******** hover mode and thrusters, you can fly backwards and do all of these back-flips.

Had they implemented more realistic forward movement flight mechanic, there wouldn't be such a problem. Dog fighting wouldn't even really be an option and would always be a case of someone chasing another aircraft.

While not technically a bug, glitch or exploit - it is just poor design that makes flying really ,,,,not fun.
  3. Codex561

What is it exactly? The thing that just allows you to fly backwards?
  4. Taemien

Do you have facts to back up that statement?
  5. Prudentia

seriously can't you guys in this thread just stop complaining?
    It IS a bug
it has since then been embraced by the community and the developers.
it creates some depth to the otherwise extremly shallow airgame (i haz gun i haz WASDCtrlSpace let's fight hurr durr)
    It will not be removed

just as other bugs in the history of games it was accepted and build upon. the most famous modern example for that is propably the myth around the Minecraft Creeper. the only problem that still exists untill today is that it is nowhere in the game mentionened that it works. there is not a single possible way for a new pilot, other than recreating a bug, to learn of the reversemanouver by ingame means.

Nope, it was originally unintended by product of how the engines work. It was turned into a recognized feature with the ESF update, when they nerfed it. It's kind of like backseat harasser repair.

The reverse maneuver is super easy to do.

Skill...Full... Play. In the air... You pilots are GROUND POUNDING the rest of us, that's your main thing! Wish AA was just as brutal so things were even! Oh wait; 6/10 I was fooled into replying seriously. Nicely played... Troll.

And no, other guy who is defending crap mechanics... NO. You can have your hover duels but do it like BF2142, that felt a lot better. Or at the very least, give the rest of us a REAL Air Superiority Fighter to blast you. I'd learn to fly that and enjoy it immensely, including dueling others who would learn it. But no you don't want that, it's been suggested and Sky Knights floored the idea completely- NOBODY should threaten their consensual jousting and dominance.

Chavs. Yeah it's broken when Ground can defend, but can't ATTACK Air actively. There is no AREA DENIAL, the ESF will go in, do its work and go out. :S All that needs some looking into, it's not making sense.

Hardly. You can point your top backwards, and you can thrust directly upwards. As long as that much is true, the reverse maneuver will be a thing. And those two things are pretty much cornerstones of current flight mechanics. It's not an exploit, it's a fairly intuitive movement. Hell, half the people struggling to "learn" the reverse maneuver have been unknowingly doing it the entire time and were just overthinking it.
  11. Akashar

I don't know if you are serious, but devs already tried to remove it saying it was a bug (as it really is one), and every pilot just said that he would quit if it happened, so, hey, we got to keep it! :)
    All for the better.
  12. FieldMarshall

Cant you just use the Engagement Radar?...
  13. Cindil

A game without airplanes doesn't have a traditional fixed wing model of dogfighting?

    How very odd.

Where in this thread was I complaining? Actually where the hell did I even post elsewhere in this thread?

I asked for proof because you made a statement that you believe is a fact. And if we're going to build an argument based on a statement, you need facts to back it up. You're biting the hand that is feeding you. And I say this because I've never supported the reverse maneuver and I have advocating for its 'fix' or removal in the past. But I've never called it an exploit or a bug.

And here you are jumping down my throat simply because I asked for some proof of your facts. If you can't provide that proof (of a Dev saying its an exploit or a bug), then you need to stop complaining about it, sit down and shut up. Because without poof of fact, your statement is only an opinion.

And before you try to turn this around, you made the initial statement, which means the burden of proof is on you. That's how it works.

I "jumped at your throat" because there were already 5 guys who replied to my Statement either wanting the reverse manouver removed or accusing me of wanting to dumb the game down. you were just one in a row of People that i decided to clarify my Statement against so People stop missunderstanding what i meant.
sadly enough there are still People who are incapable of reading
    and
but this is forumside so i don't even know why i tried

Always found hover fights to be pretty boring. It's like suddenly you have an infantry fight but in the air.

Why is there to *real* dogfighting? IE trying to get on someone's tail?

There is no concept of "energy". Altitude gives no real advantage as it doesn't store potential energy that can be released by diving. Afterburners are used only to reverse, not to gain energy.

ESFs magically turn into helicopters so being able to successfully do any dogfighting maneuver (split-S, high/low speed yo-yos yada yada) gains the skilled pilot nothing. Nothing is gained by trading energy for tight turns because... heck I dunno. Nannites?

And reverse thrust. Jeebus H. Guys it's a fluke in the ESF movement system that everyone become so attached to that they left it in. (read: those that mastered it whined and whined to keep it in so they could dominate newbies that didn't)

It is what it is I guess and it's not going to change. What it is is stupid though.

Air combat is completely situational even with reverse manuver. As with any battle its about who shoots first. Now clientside has added some variables where first shot isnt always first shot. But at least most of the time first shooter wins.

While farming ground units is rewarding, its downfall is getting ***** by another ESF.
  18. TheBlindFreak

It's a bug that's been recognized by the devs. It was addressed in a patch note and tuned appropriately with the initial AB use fuel cost.

    Your response amuses me,
Most Air fly with max stealth since the nanite auto-repair nerf. Maxed stealth is undetectable to Engagement Radar. What he should add is awareness implant so he can detect where he got hit from.

My biggest issue as it stands right now with the air game is A2AM. It is ridiculous that these are even in the game since ESFs are squishy as is. I understand their purpose against Galaxy's and Libs, but against ESFs it's ludicrous, rarely can you escape a A2AM, you are better off clicking re-deploy.

Use the environment to your advantage. Sometimes the best option is to make them chase you. Most of the time I can get a few mosquitos, scythes and even reavers to ram into something.

On the other hand I am a bit different and enjoy a good dog fight and will even face players where the odds are in their favor 2 vs1 , 3 vs 1 and the good old 4+ vs 1.
