I've heard in the original planetside there was an ability you could access at command rank 3 where you could draw on the minimap and create custom text waypoints or something along those lines. Google is apparently not able to find any good pictures from the original planetside so I thought I'd ask here. Does anybody have a picture of the old Battleplans system, or an old CR3 account they could use to get some?
Drawing on the map became available starting from CR3. I only ever saw it used effectively to indicate where someone wanted ams placements... other then that people always seemed to put giant man parts on the map.
I have heard tales of how they used to draw male genitalia representing their staging points and ***** as guidelines for their troops to follow
No need for screenshots. It's literally MS paint on top of the map with only a brush to draw lines or a cursor to write text. You got something like 8 colors to choose from. Generally, we used them to explore the artistic expressions of various squad leaders with regards to male naughty bits.
Who ever pictured dick on a map the second you read that players could draw something that everyone would see, raise your hands. \o
Used properly, battle plan was the best SL tool going. I guess it is only because of technical reasons that they didn't include it in PS2.
Seems like if it had a nice UI and displayed as a more tactical overlay, it might not be used for manparts as much. I would love it as a command tool.
If by 'technical reasons' you mean 'learned their lessons from all the kids drawing genitalia' then yep, I'm sure that's why <LOL>. It is a great tool, but I'd only be in favor of it if, with implementation, they included an automatic banning of anyone drawing genitalia or such. I mean, c'mon folks. We're supposed to be mature adults. Grow up a little. If you're still finding genitalia funny (and you're not younger then 13) then it's time to put down the game controller, go forth into the world, and meet REAL people. Then, perhaps, you'll actually get to interact with those 'adult' parts with someone else for a change.
1. Map graphics should be limited to 1-3 arrows and maybe some basic tactical symbols. 2. There should be a toggle on the map menu to hide them. 3. The map graphics should disappear after 15 minutes to force updates and reduce spam. 4. Have it to so you have to unlock the ability to draw on the map with certs in the Leader tree. 5. Squad leader graphics are only seen by their squad. Platoon leader graphics are only seen by their platoon. * See my signature block for more on this.
It gets me every time. Taken in 2006 at the beginning of reserves. Edit: I can't make actual examples because you need to be squad leader of a squad of at least 2 members for battleplans to be accessible. There isn't a second person for the squad.
But the real world is scary! I could get hit by a truck or kidnapped by serial killer clowns or have to have social interaction with people face to face! No, far better to stay inside.
AH! But inside is ALSO part of the real world! What if serial killer clowns drive through your wall with a truck only to kidnap you with several others, forcing you to interact with them face to face to avoid your doom! EH? EH EH?!? What THEN!
But HOW is the bear going to use the guns?!? Don't get me wrong, I fully support one's right to arm bears, but they have no opposble thumbs! Can't pull the trigger very well without a thumb!
That is why I designed a special mechanical harness for the bear that carries two rifles or shotguns on either side that is activated/fired by remote. The rest of them are for me of course. Perhaps one day I shall get a group of specially trained battle cats and equip them with pistol harnesses, or SMGs!
I would pay real life cash for the ability to use battle plans. The waypoints are far too specific so its not easy to use them to indicate a flanking run or a general area for a squad o defend for example. They would be especially useful on the Euro servers where everybody does not speak English as their first language. I'm sure they could always put a map filter in to save people who are horrified by the drawing of montys, or you could always find a squad that uses them properly.
So then you just click on the map 'graphics' filter so they disappear off your map. (But if your squad or platoon leader was doing that, surely you would have a word with them?)
