Do you think sniping is "obsolete" due to nanoweave?

I'd say 50% of the headshots I make are resisted with NW. Still plenty of kills to be made with a sniper but most tend to be low BR players who don't know any better.... I then feel guilt when I headshot the same low BR 2 or 3 times.

I normally send them a tell, though have yet to receive a response from any. I wonder if they even know how to send a tell back or have even noticed it in the coms box with all the "I need repairs" being spammed. If this is not covered in the tutorial it should be touched upon, in game coms are bad enough without new player knowing how to use them

Nanoweave is certainly unfair and a current design flaw in sniper gameplay, but it's not as bad as the OP seems to think it is.
  3. Bine

Ehhh. Its not the nanoweave. Snipers are just being crybabies that they cant use silencers (I never use a silencer and I never have a heavy survive a headshot). The reason you are seeing more CQB Infils is because of the substantial stealth buff. Low graphics settings have difficulty seeing stealthers now just like on high (and high got a buff to it too). So everyone wants to take advantage of players not working in groups.

Given that they always shoot at my NC MAX and I reciprocated about a dozen times by sticking Dual Ravens down their throat yesterday, clearly sniping isn't obsolete due to Nanoweave. Plenty of nudniks still picking up a sniper rifle.

Well, I don't know what changes have been made while I was gone. But as a rusher I can tell you that good snipers will NEVER be obsolete.

No, Just don't use a bolt action from 400 meters.

Get in there and back up your squad. Your recon beacons will help your team find and kill the enemy. Then with the bolt action you can support you team, Any body hit will basically take an enemy solider out of the battle as they will need to run to heal, You will get assist points and if the enemy is damage you will get the kill.

Any one not moving you blast them in the head for an instant kill.

Because you are near friendly's they will have trouble rushing you so you can blast away from a pretty safe distance

This game has the worst netcode ever
That's how it should work... but you're likely to get stabbed / shotgun splattered from behind.

There is one thing people seem to over look time and time again.

As has been pointed out, no where does SoE state NW will allow you to survive a headshot from a top-tier sniper rifle. SoE does state top-tier sniper rifles will kill one-shot to the head. https://www.planetside2.com/news/large-caliber-snipers

    and

As far as I can tell SoE hasn't officially changed that anywhere.

Also, SoE states sniper is a role infiltrators perform on the battlefield. https://www.planetside2.com/faq Under"What Type Of Roles Or Classes Can I Play"

    To the OP's question, no.
I just switch to a semi-auto and take multiple shots.
  10. Udnknome

The Semi-Auto line of sniper rifles are the counter to nanoweave. Go semi
  11. Entarticus

Yes that's true, though there are some useless people in all classes, it seems that infiltrator attracts the most.
  12. Elbryan

You're assuming there is only one medic.

By the time you are aiming to shoot the other medic, your first kill is already revived.

In 'tactical shooters' like PS2 and BF3 you have to conquer the enemy position to push them away. You can't do that by sniping.

Sure you can be a minor annoyance to the enemy team but if you played any other role in the game, you'd be more effective and helpful to your team.

I know it's hard for some leet scout snipers to accept their uselessness.

i use the hardest hitting VS SR (paralax) and so far non-lethal headshots are very rare

in fact, HA are the only guys who manage to survive headshots on very rare occasions. but i guess there isn't many NW armor 5 juiced up heavies out there, so it does not bother me

Either you never really used it much, or you're lying. As any player, well, the majority of players, had this happen to them many times now.
  15. Hrafnagaldr

Yeah I got Nanoweave 5 and the and about 2/3 of BASR headshots still kill me one-shot. Snipers have to be really far away so that I survive those headshots.

I use my sniper rarely and only got the XM98 not the Parallax and still most of my headshots are direct kills. Some survive, most do not. It is perfectly fine in my opinion.
  16. Vaphell

i wouldn't call the threshold of 50m in case of your xm98 vs nw5 'really far away', 30m if the rifle was suppressed.

and if you think otherwise you are simply wrong. :)
  18. Rawkzter

8 times out of 10 I OHK an opponent.
  19. Hrafnagaldr

Well it is just within ranges where I have a chance to effectively fight back with an LMG so I think it is balanced. I bring can him down with well aimed burst fire, he can oneshot me.
In ranges beyond the usefulness of LMGs he wont oneshot me with NM5 and I have a chance react in some way. I would call that balance.

+ the top tier BASR extend that range a little as far as I know.

But fear not, for the majority of my fights the GU13 improved shield generator with its huge cooldoown reduction will be the better choice. So some happy sniper will get one more oneshot kill per evening for me while I can engage multiple enemies with way less downtime. Because of my superb reaction and aiming, I rarely lose more than my shield capacity in 1on1 fights I survive. There are very few times when I survive in CQC thanks to nanoweave.

TBH, I only pull my sniper rifle in a already lost fight to get some free spawnroom kills, padding my stats. In that range, NM5 wont help much. Otherwise, I play my Infil with an SMG. I cannot understand, why so many Infiltrators are constantly whining about this. There is nothing more boring in this game than sitting on a hill playing the lonesome sniper. And you wont capture any point with this playing style.

In my opinion, sniper rifles just got implemented to satisfy some CoD kiddies.

Traditional "sniping" is too situational in this game, it's rather ineffective in most battles. The only real purpose of the "sit back on a hill" sniping is to troll the low BR people who think this is an effective tactic in PS2. I bought a RAMS .50 for this purpose. I only pull it out when a very certain chain of events unfolds, and only if I'm in the mood, and taking myself out of the actual fight wont have a significant impact on the battle.

I'm running around in a large battle. Either I see from my spawn building a hill full of low BR enemy infils trying to farm some long shots, or I'm uphill from an enemy spawn building and I see the roof covered in plinking low BR snipers. These are actually fairly common situations.

This is when I bust out my RAMS .50 and play counter-sniper troll. I am by no means some godly sniper, up against a real guy with some serious practice I get outgunned 9/10 times. I've been up against those grizzled veteran snipers, but the sheeple crowds of silver headed VS BR3-10 infils just can't snag me. I cloak up, steady my shot, uncloak, drill em, recloak, and run to a new spot.

That isn't to say a good marksman can't make a real difference on the field. I just think the crowds of sniper wannabes that frequently populate hills and spawn rooms in this game are 99% of the time doing great harm to themselves and their faction mates. The vast majority of situations where you could be "sniping" you are ten fold better off putting boots on an objective.
