Do we continue to support developers by continued purchases or do we let our wallets speak....

Playin GW2 right now. Not happy they put in a gear grind but on plus side they REALLY know how to make events; current one is so much fun. Plus I can buy gems via ingame gold and it really isn't even needed to have CS stuff; it's all fluff like santa hats and such. Here, you either grind for 70+ hours for one gun or get it instantly via cash. You can guess which one is the best way to obtain it and this is how PS2 was designed.

I'd be totally fine with this if PS2 actually had a better end game rather than just cert farming. But as it stands, PS2 needs more to be really worth the investment and also retain players. Bored/frustrated players won't stay and interested ones won't either when there's barely anyone left to fight.

Hopefulley, we get some sorta feed back from them instead of silence soon. All this is not going to help bring new players in and retain old ones...just drive em away equally. That's not good imo.

I'm fine with the game, so I'll pay for what I feel is worth paying for as I need it. When I get bored, I will stop paying.

ROFL you guys have no idea what you are talking about, seriously. Milk a brand new game? Really? You want milking, SOE has been milking EQ1 players for 12 years because Everquest was and still is their biggest IP. Sometimes Planetside 1 vets think they had a big game going before but really, it was just a niche game with a niche playerbase. EQ1 peaked at over 450,000 subscribers compared to 80k of PS1 a long time ago. Who do you think SOE "milked" more and profited more from?

SOE operates under a shared resources model. This means that all the money they make from all their games are pooled together, and each games get allocated certain resources, money, and dev team to maintain and upgrade the games. SOE doesn't need to milk this brand new game, they are developing and upgrading this brand new game. SOE is however, milking Everquest 1 and Everquest 2, two of their biggest and most profitable titles for the past 12 years.

Letting Planetside 2 slide would make zero business sense, it's paid for by their milking of Everquest 1, Everquest 2, Free Realms, etc.. Planetside 2 was launched as Free to Play, if they wanted to milk us, they would've sold the game for $50 and made everybody pay upfront. They didn't, therefore this game is not in the milking mode, stop the doom calling it's getting ridiculous.

I gripe about the game sometimes, but I believe that if PS2 is to become the well rounded game that we'd like it to be, it will need our continued financial support.

I am a premium member and I also spend SC regularly. I will be spending probably more than I should on triple SC day. I just have to find a way of explaining it to the Wife :)

I'm as much excited about what the game could be, as I am about what it currently is, probably more so in truth.

How to milk: release new guns every so often that is nothing but reskinned older models with stats that took 5 mins tops to re-adjust but also better than old. Already happened once now if you want proof.

Anyways, I think I have a small right to complain a bit due to dumping 130 bucks already on PS2. Yea...I am a payin customer and not sum freebie*.

    * I hope freebies actually stay around cus w/o em this game would be even deader. I doubt hardly anyone would want to pay an actual mandatory sub to play this. Not worth it in my eyes.

Whats wrong with the game in your eyes?

The only issue I have is server pops. Everything else is/can/will be fixed. Server pop is a hard one though, this game is bleeding players.
  7. Ixal

You are new to gaming, aren't you?
Just because something is broken doesn't mean it will get fixed. Especially larger companies only do things when they expect to get money for it, not because they want to make the game better.
  8. TheScapegoat

Have purchased SC in the Beta x3, the Black Friday x2 and will again on the end of the world as we know it x3 on 12/21.

Milking (v): The process of doing the same thing over and over again, every *bleeping* time expecting something to be different. See: Call of Duty, Far Cry 3 Vaas' View on Life.
  10. Cowboyhomer

Game is awesome. Ive spent a little cash and plan on more. This happens all the time. I rememeber when WoW first came out and seeing all the threads saying "dont even bother leveling up, there is nothing to do once you do. All there is for an end game is Tauren Mills zergfest". The game has been out for a very short time and they are working on the gameplay all the time. I love playing the game and am super excited about the things they say they want to eventually get into the game.
  11. Morpholine

My wallet's speaking. It says, "Awesome job! Keep up the good work!"

I'm realistic enough to realize a not-quite-one-month-old MMO (or ANY game, for that matter) is unlikely to be perfectly issue-free.
  12. BengalTiger

If only they came online a bit more often. :p

I'll most likely spend a few $ during the 3x sale. Not much, but I don't really pay big money for diamonds that ain't polished.
  13. ArcaneGuardian

I don't think you understand what an MMO is. It is, to put it simply, Massive, Multiplayer, and online.

You are confusing "MMO" with "MMORPG" which is not what PS2 is.

If you don't like PS2 for what it is, that's fine. But to say it's not an MMO, it would have to fail a check on one of those three things. And it is Massive, Multiplayer, and Online. So it is an MMO.

You are correct that it is not like WoW/Rift/etc. because those are MMORPGs, which this is not.

TL;DR - "You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means"

This game is better than PS1. Better than BF2 BF3, COD (all of them) Counterstrike, World of Warcraft, SWTOR, GW2, Name the game, this one is better. Every day that i log in to play I end up on for 2-8 hours.

The idea that this is "Still in Beta" is crap. It is a continuously evolving game. They will NEVER be finished with it. If they do finish it, it will end up like PS1. Ignored and neglected. Why in the world would you guys want that?

Is the game perfect yet? No. Is it playable? ABSOLUTELY!!

And on Friday i am going to dump a bunch of money into it since it is Triple SC! I bought the Alpha Squad and haven't spent a penny since. Probably dump another $30-$50 on Friday... well if the world doesn't end.
  15. medbot544

Trion is makin a FPS MMO more fitting the actual name "MMO"; probably won't be that great, but who knows. Other than PS1, majority of other 'MMOs' have the elements that a real MMO to me actually means. Which is: Massive Multiplayer Online With A Point Other Than Cert Farming.
  16. ArcaneGuardian

No, no it does not mean that. That'd be like saying that FPS's have to have a silent protagonist because most others do.

MMO means Massively Multiplayer Online - It is a modifier.

NO game is JUST an MMO that I've ever seen. WoW, EQ, Rift, etc. are MMO-RPGs

Edit: Also, lol. Read the description from their website. I'll highlight something for emphasis, in case you miss it.
  17. Rahabib

the game is alright but I wont spend any money until they get things sorted out. Its been my plan since day 1. I wont spend money until:
    • account wide unlocks
    • paid server transfers
    • better balance
I wont spend much money until they figure out how to stop the wack-a-mole game play dealt with.
  18. medbot544

And why can we not bring RPG into the formula and spice this baby up? Happy with just cert farming? I am not...guess I am just weird that way.
  19. ArcaneGuardian

Not saying you can't. Just saying that this is an MMOFPS. It doesn't have to have those things. And saying it's not an MMO is wrong, by definition.

Saying you're not happy that it's not an MMORPG/FPS is valid. But again, saying it's not an MMO is invalid.
  20. LastLieutenant

I love the whole "what's the point to this game" argument. Anyone who plays Halo, CoD, CS, etc. There really isn't any point to those games. Some artificial level that doesn't matter because even if you're "the highest" someone can come in and whoop you're *** anyways. Not much point to those games in my opinion other than the joy you get from disowning individuals WHICH IS THE EXACT SAME REASON I PLAY THIS GAME TO GET MY BANG BANG ON.
