Could someone either describe to me or at least point me to where I can learn about the different types of hacks and their respective indicators that I'm likely to encounter in this game? So far, I've seen Teleporters, Flash Gordons, Shoots Through Walls Man, Sees Through Walls Man, Magic OSHS(carbine) Engineer/Light Assault Guy, Invincible Man, etc... I'm sure some of these things can be attributable to bugs but when so many are attached to the same enemy toons over time(I log names) it starts to get weird. I don't want to report willy nilly. I also want to make sure I'm not seeing trends that don't exist or are simply subjective but I DO want to know when I died because of my own error and not because of some emotionally unstable/maladjusted "player" found out how to lose by "winning". Anyway, so... are hackers drawn to any one faction in particular in your experience? Any class that they typically prefer? Any useful data is appreciated and I'm sure will be useful for other players as well. And please, no emotionally unstable responses. It's just a game but fair game is just much more enjoyable
I think it's the same person doing this, but around The Crown on Connery there are Vanu infiltrators knifing people to death from 5km away. They can knife you through walls and from distances so far away you cannot even see the person. Another version of that is another Vanu guy who was running around at insane speeds knifing people to death.
If someone's playing as infantry and killing tons of people in a short time, like, you look at your platoon, you blink your eyes, everyone's dead and there's no liberator around... that's the best indicator that there's something fishy going on.
Speed hacks, teleporting, and "blinking" are all pretty obvious. Aimbots boil down to two things: incredibly little bullet deviation and "snapping" to targets. If the person consistently never misses a shot and moves between targets instantly with no over/under aiming, that person's likely hacking. Very very good players can compensate for recoil and are great at acquiring targets, but even the best players miss at times or will over/under aim. Wall hacks or ESP allow someone to know where everyone is using a radar or seeing through walls. If he always knows exactly where you are and immediately drops you every time, he might be hacking. This one is a little harder to catch than aimbotting, though. Things like footsteps, missed shots, spotting with Q, decloaking, and voice call outs using the v key all give audible cues that can be heard by both friendlies and enemies in the area. A legitimate, smart player can use all these cues to have a general idea where you're coming from. And there's also plain-old outsmarting a guy. If you ask yourself what you would do if your were the enemy you can often figure out where they are likely to come from and be ready for it. Unless a hacker is very obvious and headshotting everyone while taking a Tech Plant single-handedly, a lot of it rests on feel. If a guy gets the jump on me a couple of times and kills me, he's either good or lucky (maybe both). If a guy kills me 4 or more times in rapid succession when I'm respawning and varying my approach, he's likely hacking. If I'm behind him and he instantly does a 180 and headshots me, he's likely hacking. Maybe look on Youtube or Twitch.tv for the stream/videos of really good players (I could give you some names if you want) to see how the top players play. Once you have a baseline on how good players play you can make a better judgement call on hacking.
Yeah, the ranged knife hack I've only seen used by Vanu so far. Seen it on all sides when it comes down to the wall hack and going into the enemy spawn room.
Cool, thanks for the responses. I'll definitely check out some videos. Yeah, I forgot about that guy in our spawn room at The Crown(Jaeger). And the lightning gun that was sticking through the wall shooting.
Yeah, learned about those the hard way... I had initially wondered why everyone was driving their quads into the buildings. But I have also noticed that I could hear callouts: "Hostile Light Assault Trooper Spotted!" while in complete defilade with only sky above me and zero friendlies around or while I'm in a corner of a room completely out of LOS and the callout was from behind me well away from any entrances. Then they run right in at my exact location shooting. I guess that's the ESP hack. I also had one guy fall down a cliff past me spotting me as he fell. When he hit bottom 80 meters away he immediately auto-spawned right in front of me and killed me... the first time. About 20 minutes later, across the map and on a different cliff the same guy comes falling past me: "Hostile Light Assault Trooper Spotted!" "Hostile Light Assault Trooper Spotted!" "Hostile Light Assault Trooper Spotted!", Right as he hit bottom I just started firing in his general direction... Teleporter confirmed, dead and reported. Vanu seems to be the trend as I cant recall many NC incidents but that's prolly just server specific. I've played all three(my first as Vanu) and I don't remember much of this happening but I was still learning the game. I just hope it doesn't get worse. I wish it was more like PS1 but I still love the game.
well if they kill you at all, ever, with anything that is a good indication they hack I'm told and if by some odd chance they are not hacking than obviously whatever weapon/vehicle or faction they are using/playing as is OP and needs to be nerfed RIGHT NOW OR THE GAME WILL DIE !
Last week while defending the Crown. I had Bouncing Betties laid at the B objective, and one of them went off. Less than 20 seconds later the other one went off. It was the same TR player. Absolutely no enemy medics around, and the closest enemy sunderer was Vanu, on the opposite side of the base. Sure enough, 20-ish seconds later I see him get killed again on the ticker at the top-right. I guess he gave up on B, because he continued returning to the top of the Crown tower about twice per minute for a short while. Team said he was "fly hacking", but I didn't see it in action so I can't say. Also, for some reason I have noticed a disproportionate number of hackers on Vanu. Subjectively, on our server I'd say about 60% of them are on Vanu, and 20% each on TR and NC.
So the blinking thing is a hack? I have noticed that with everyone but I just thought it was lag. So they blink when they move through objects?
Blinking is usually lag, but there are ways using both software and hardware to manufacture and exploit lag. If a dude is blinking in and out and getting an inordinate amount of kills, he's probably using a lag switch. Go ahead and report it. I'm of the opinion when someone's behaving funny and getting lots of kills for it it might be best to just report. SOE will take care of it.
