I think more he doesn't play the game at all ... I mean would you? If you spent all your workday on it?
I suspect that most Devs are future crew on connery ! If i were guessing !! There to good to not be some in there.
I never understood the concept "NC = Spacemerica". For me, the NC are kind of separatists, of small entities just wanting to be left alone, while the Terran is an invasive military force like the US Army operating all over the world with the biggest military budget. So for me, Terrans = Spacemerica.
Terrans = Russians bla bla NC = Space murica, freedom bla bla bla VS = ET phone home Thats how i see it.
There is a small flaw in your logic. In ideology the US people would like to be NC freedom and all that ... it's just that their government is more TR ... oppressive, aggressive, invasive and all that ... But let's be honest here, most modern stats of the "first" world are like that now ... but let's better stop the political stuff at that
NC are spacemerica because they do war for money while calling it protection of freedom to enroll uneducated soldiers
No flaw in my logic. Terran: imperial global interventionist behaviour like the USA today. NC: alliance of local powers or countries wanting to be left alone, some mix of libertarians and local nationalism. In a sense, Russia is more "NC" than "Terran" today. More on the conceptual point of view, it's the eternal balance between the confederations against the federations. Or to come back to the States, Terrans are the Yankees while the NC's are the old South. As a Swiss guy, I feel very "NC" and in the westerns I've always preferred the South, that's why I play NC ;-)
For me it's the exact contrary. Terrans are like the US army today, a full professional military force enlisting guys from the ghettos. While the NC's are just local guys serving in volontary milicias.
Smedly, Higby, Clegg = NC Tray, Luperza, Tayraydactyl = VS Malorn = TR Of the high-profile devs, anyway, and with the caveat that all above have a (mostly) next to the faction. Very early on after release, there was a statement at one point that numerically, most on the Dev team played TR (mostly) in comparison to the other factions. The idea that the Developers favor one faction over the others and intentionally balance due to that is completely absurd, though.
The thing is the NC are a bunch of ghetto and low class guys getting a paycheck to fight for "freedom." It's all run by corporations that got tired of restrictions that prevented them from screwing people over to maximize profits. The rank and file fight for the percieved freedom but ultimately they are just corporate thugs. TR are more akin to Soviet Russia. Conform to the glorious Republics peace and ideologies....or die.
"TR are more akin to Soviet Russia." No, Terrans are like the US military conglomerate today, a mix of big armament factories and neoconservative moguls (most of them, ex-trotskists) with an imperial world view. You don't seem to realize that many people outside the USA begin to see this country like a "Terran" thing, intrusive and imperial. While NC is in fact more like Russia, on this point of view, which just want to stay left alone as a local power, not a world power. P.S: SOE put the servers on NOW, so I'll stop to write stupid things in this topic ;-)
that i did i know smedly is NC as i remember him trying to cheer on NC in the very early tech tests for the game as global messages
As someone living in the US, I see both TR and NC in elements of the US government. NC are lead by rich corporate overseers using fear mongering propaganda to exploit and goad the uninformed underclass into a frothing frenzy. TR seemed like they had good intentions but through either incompetence of malevolent intervention, things just went awry. How they've handled things since has not made things better. If you are utside the US, you were probably not witness to "views" and shenanigans of the likes of the "tea party", Todd Akin, or Phil Gingrey. While the outside world might view the US as TR, people on the inside see things playing out like the NC. The themes of corruption and dystopian situations are attractive because they are universal everywhere. I'm sure there are a lot of internal struggles and views in other countries that those in the US just aren't aware of either.
