It would most definitely be a low blow to do that, but does DBG really care? Odds are PS3 is not happening so a lot of these customers are unlikely to play any more DBG developed games since I believe this is their only FPS sans H1Z1. Their mentality could very well be to cash in and then exit the arena.

I agree the merges could extend it but will they happen? They lack a central USA datacenter so merging the USA servers will either alienate a chunk of users or cost a lot to open a new datacenter. The person discussing this on stream was pointing to this as a reason for the shutdown.

Yeah! They are spending tons of money in creating a new ANT system but are going to shut down the game before it arrives! Sure!

The game has many flaws and is aging, people are leaving. But it's these kind of moronic doomsday things that cause the game to really bleed dry.

There is such a thing as a reputation for a company, and if DBG sold a bunch of high priced bundles before shutting the doors, they would essentially be going David Carradine for any and all future endeavors related to any of their names.

And not having a datacenter, really? Do you suppose that Sony is going out and building a new server farm of their own from the foundation up? If they could secure horsepower and bandwidth on say AWS or any of the billion companies that do dedicated heavy hosting, they could change physical locations overnight. (hyperbole, but true)

The truth is PS2 is in a better state right now than it has been for a long time, and it's paying back what money they put into, so... Then there were several Raptures, as well as the Mayan Calendar ending.
