Dear SOE, Where do I begin to say how disappointed I am in yesterday's (2/19) update. While I appreciate the new bases and lattice system on Amerish, I am also distraught over the fact now that for quite some time everyone else get to skywalk or have their tank fly, sometimes even upside down. Even their aircraft don't follow the same flight rules I've been given. Sometimes they are also given an unfair burst of speed. ( I know this when I watch the minimap, it's like everyone gets to momentarily run in fast forward mode). There are times even when I just even fall over dead due to what I can only attribute to my enemies having that much psychic ability over my character. What secret planetside 2 quest/instance/dungeon am I missing out on and how can I assemble the tri force to get there? (Mr Higby and company) Thanks for the new content, but please make this game playable again. Alot of us are experiencing some type of ping desync which simply makes playing unenjoyable. I personally have played planetside since the beginning. I like the lore of it, the battles, and the comradery I normally experience throughout all these years of play. I'm not here to complain about how much this game has cost me, or the subscription fees because most of the time I'm satisfied with the overall experience I get when logged in. I'm asking you to please take a look into this issue as in my opinion it is more important for the game to run properly than to add content. I've now done everything possible on my end all the way to having my ISP come run new lines and exchange my cable modem. I've also tried different PC's, games, and even clean installs. Thank you
I doubt your internet connection is the issue here. The symptoms you describe have been complained about for months after various patches (for myself, after the OMFG patch). I've gone round-and-round with the tech support folks who had me investigate a variety of issues and my latency isn't one. Apparently the threading code SOE uses is very tempermental around various overclocking settings, even common things like Hyperthreading, Turbo Boost and the like. Of the three computers I normally use, my desktop and one of my laptops is out of commission for PS2 for the issues you describe, while my other laptop still runs it fine. All three computers run a wide variety of other titles just fine, it just seems the current state of PS2 threading is screwing up someplace they haven't been able to figure out yet. If you manage to resolve the issue I would be very happy to hear about it.
For the love of.... THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM. Please stop spreading this disinformation. FACTS: The issue DOES NOT EVER occur when I use my Rogers LTE connection when tethered to my Blackberry. However, the issue DOES occur 100% of the time when I use my Wimax home ISP (there isn't any wired internet in this part of the city). I can literally log out from using the Wimax internet while having the problem, log in using LTE and no longer experience the issue. Log back in using Wimax, the issue occurs once more. There are many variables at play between changing these connection types, but clock speed and timings are NOT part of them. Period. The most likely cause of this issue is deep packet inspection throttling by an ISP or backbone provider along the route to SOE. DPI is used to throttle "peer to peer file sharing" programs and to prioritize ISP sold VOIP "home phone" services over other traffic. A few years ago there was some media buzz about this when World of Warcraft packets were throttled, causing users from several end users ISPs to experience 40,000+ pings. The huge problem with DPI throttling is how it determines what packets to throttle. While it does "look into" packets, it also uses a master list of packet structure signatures to white list traffic. Every time an MMO gets updated, its packet structure changes and those changes are not represented in the white list, thus the MMO traffic gets throttled as an unknown, but likely "file sharing program" when it hits the magic KB/s limit that the ISP or backbone provider has set for p2p traffic. The route to SOE through the Rogers network is not throttled, as Rogers ceased using that practice and does not connect to backbone providers who use it. The route to SOE from my Wimax provider (who I will not name, as it will expose my geographic location) traverses the publicly funded fiber optic network created by the government of Ontario (Canada), where it may well be throttled. Sadly, backbone providers are not required to disclose their traffic management procedures (even government operated ones) and ISPs only need to disclose their management methods in "simple English", so it's pretty much impossible for an end user to determine where the throttling is occurring. SOE could help its end users test this issue by providing an encrypted VPN option in the launchpad program, where the game's traffic will effectively bypass all current DPI throttling methods. If that resolves the issue, then it is up to SOE, not the end user, to contact the offending ISPs and backbone providers to resolve the issue. This is why "net neutrality" is an issue. People are paying for online services, but those services are being degraded by intermediaries. ------------- On a personal note, I have posted several threads and many posts about this issue over the past year. The issue did not begin occurring on my Wimax internet until late Jan 2014. So basically, the game worked fine for the month of December 2013. Prior to that, the issue started happening on on our previous commercial 802.11g connection in Feb 2013 and never gor better, so I quite playing. I tested in Aug and Sept 2013 on that connection, but the issue persisted. In Nov 2013 we moved to a different provider using Wimax technology and the issue seemed to be resolved. Keep in mind that the issue NEVER occurs on the Rogers cell phone network, even using a connection type as slow as 3G.
BUMP, still having issues....still subscribing, heroic boost ticking away. Wish we could at least pause our boosts until a fix comes out for this.
Many people has started having this issue again recently and especially since the ESF update and I would also like a response from SOE to at least acknowledge that it is indeed being looked at...In my case the game starts to desync whenever there is a battle with a medium amount of players...however the problem seems to dissapear when I log in after midnight hours when there are less people on the server so atm I play only at those times ( miller ) Its not disinformation if it has helped many people in the past including myself ( back in early 2013 when this was also an issue )...I hear what you are saying, however it is a possible workaround that MAY fix it for some.
I am also having this problem as of today, yesterday I had a fantastic day, high points per hour, KD and fun factor, and I got a Gold PDW at the end of it to make it even better. Today I log in and my ping is over 300 ALL the time. can't even enter big fights. I have checked my ping to a few places, inside germany(my location), I have ping of 22~28, as soon as I try to ping any server on the other side of the pond the time jumps up to 125~134. This includes Google in paloalto and Akamai.net in Massachusetts, who apparently host a couple of german TV stations websites. I was using tracrt, ping and whois lookups to gather this info. I really don't think this problem is limited to Sony traffic, but obviously as a paying customer, both for my ISP and membership, I really don't expect to have my traffic "shaped" like this. Does anyone have the new addresses for the servers, cos the old ones, ie ones from January are no longer valid, probably since they made the changes to the network. I hope to god they didn't move them America. What with the new law destroying net neutrality and all. Ulfie
