cqc carbines going extinct?

Hey I am a vx6-7 user and I feel that every time a new line of cqc weapons come out its like another nerf on my weapon as its original intent was cqc. I was wondering how other users of this or similiar weapons feel, how they cope, and what strategies they use to get the most out of the weapon.

One thing I never quite got was how to properly hip fire. Do I fire in bursts. Do I run about? Is it outclassed now?

Pretty much everyone weapon in PS2 gets used "CQC", with the exception of sniper rifles and Lashers.

That said, carbine's close quarter niche is aggressively getting competed with by shotguns and SMG's. The two carbine-wielding classes (engineers and LA) can use the new pump action and the new submachinegun, but already saw competition with the three shotguns to begin with.

With eventual improvements to renderside and Moore's Law, it's possible that one day weapons will be used at greater ranges such that a distinct niche exists for carbines and assault rifles, instead of guns only really being used in the same effective ranges.

Re. hip-fire, with adv laser putting a burst in upper torso and letting it climb into the head has been my standard. But I've been pretty terrible at hipfire ranges in biolab lagfests.

VX6-7 is incredible for hip fire. Get the laser sight, then the advanced laser sight, and you'll rarely need to ADS. I wouldn't recommend burst fire, as that's just going to slow down your TTK and piss off your enemies.
In regards to the new CQC weapons, I'm not bothered about the shotgun and the SMG just seems like a slightly more specialised version of the VX6-7, but I don't really mind. We've still got the advantage outside of 15-20m.

Most probably mentioned, VX6-7 with advanced laser sight for hip fire.
It's not going to help you if you are using the jet pack at the same time though.

A common scenario is a shoot an unsuspecting guy. He bunny hops like a fool. My clip runs dry and he kills me before I blink. Its probably just problems with the guns high initial recoil maybe screwing up my aim. ill practice a bit and see

From a TR LA POV, I use both the AS16 Nighthawk autoshotgun, and the TRAC-5AMC Carbine. I actually love using my TRAC-5AMC over my AS16, it is more useful at more ranges. Even in CQB I still prefer my TRAC-5AMC, sure I cant 2 shot or 3 shot people, but the TTK is about the same when you calculate in the refire time. In biolabs I often use my AS16, but only because of the extreme close range of most of those fights. I dont like slug ammo for my AS16, it slows it down to much for me. But the TRAC-5AMC is great, it doesnt have the recoil, it has more rounds per mag, and I can kill far more people than I can with the AS-16.

But I have around 680kills with my Trac-5AMC and only 650 with my AS-16.

Yeah I'm jealous of your cqc carbines bonus to move speed and ammo. 30 rounds goes so fast

    Shotguns own sub 10m.
    SMG's own 15m
    CQC carbines own about 50m
Regular carbines about 70m (but we all use CQC carbines anyway don't we :) ).

I own both SMG's and all shotguns except sweeper. Trust me when I say that the CQC carbines are not going extinct, they are in almost all cases far superior to the SMG's, Shotguns out do them up super close but obviously you cannot kill from roofs with a shotgun.

Also I will trade my (1900 kill) GD-7F carbine for either the lynx, serpent, jaguar or VX-67 gladly if you guys don't want them.

Those are just idiots who are desperate not to lose so exploit hit registration by jumping.
Had this happen after I had killed one player at a facility.
Respawned, saw I noticed him so starts jumping up and down like King Julian from Madagascar firing off his piston since it takes no aim skill to use.

The tighter CoF with Advanced laser sight will help a lot even though it may not help with recoil.

Carbines are still superior IMO. Point blank, the SMG or shotgun probably wins, but you've still got a fighting chance. Meanwhile, once you're beyond 15 meters, you hold all the cards.

Still using my stock Carbine. No problems whatsoever with it. I call her Betsy.

Once I killed a heavy with my Lynx. With Soft Point. From 100 meters. I used precise single shots while he was frantically showering me with bullets.
This situation is anecdotal, and obviously that heavy was very bad, but, still, try repeating that with an SMG or buckshot.

I use my Lynx all the time on my LA and Engineer. I have the Nighthawk but the ammo pool is so limited I can't do any serious running with it because I run out of ammo too fast. I either hip fire it in cqc or use a 3.4x dot scope at range, and it's a beast at both. I've killed two guys on one magazine many times - kill one, move to the next. Of course, with the jumping fools or the idiots who run straight into then through me I sometimes blow all 40 rounds and don't quite get the guy; that's what my pistol is for.

I'm considering buying an SMG, but not any time soon. With 1200 kills under my belt and my Auraxium medal I don't plan on shelving the Lynx anytime soon.

I have SMG and a shotgun...

Lynx is my still my most used weapon for LA and Engy (technically, I have a lot more time with the AMC... but that's only cause I had it for longer)

I rarely use my nighthawk, and my SMG is only ever equipped on my Infiltrator
  15. Chrysalis

Carbines too versatile. Even the so called 'CQC' carbines hold up decently in carbine vs carbine midrange fights, decent enough that equipping them doesn't **** you over nearly as bad as the dedicated CQC weapons do (Shotgun or SMG, take your pick, both have no presence beyond 20 meters)

It's not like a laser sight disables ADS or the ability to have more than 1x Zoom.
  16. ViktorVon

Yup, shotguns just strafe enough of my bullets to not even deplete their shield, then jumpjet to close the gap while I reload. Rinse and repeat.
  17. Erendil

On my VS I've retired all of my carbines except the Pulsar C. The damage (an thus # of kills) per mag is just too small. We don't have the TR's 40 shots, and don't have the NC's higher damage per shot. Given the high percentage of HAs running around with Nano and improved shields I simply run out of bullets too fast before I have to reload. With flinch, sometimes I don't even have enough to kill 2 HAs before my mag is dry.

So now, if I have easy access to more ammo I'll use either the Pandora (auto) or Nova (semi) shotguns, both with slugs. I find that the VS CQC carbines are equaled or outclassed by these two setups. The slugguns give me similar power up close but more kills per mag, and IME flat-out superior performance for anything outside CQC.

If ammo resupplies are scarce I'll either stick to the Pulsar C and just try to stay out of CQC, or I'll switch to another class (usually Engie or HA, depending).

Carbine is the best weapon between 10 and 30 meters and still with good marksmanship hold water to ARs/LMGS up to 40.

At ranges less or equal to 10 meters, assuming you have your laser sight, fire from the hip. The movement is absolutely critical and your COF is small enough with that weapon.

Hate to say it, but the serpent is definitely an almost direct upgrade (especially in CQC).... however, who knows how much longer until they release a new one that trivializes it.
