It is when it comes to speed, a higher rated module will run at a slower speed if the mb+cpu does not allow it to run at full speed. As for DDR3 running on a DDR2 mb - No, this is not going to work. edit - DDR3 / DDR2 and DDR has different physical design and the "notch" on the card is placed different.
You cannot use DDR2 on SB/IB. DDR3 is cheaper anyway . Dont forget to get a balanced gpu. At least a GTX 660.
why still people even consider a dual core in 2012.....actualy allmost 2013 be smart dude....be smart
Some are on a budget and cant afford it. However AMD does provide really cheap quad cores, check out the A10-5800K which does give you most of the CPU performance you need in that price class, added bonus; built in GPU as well which rocks intel's by miles. On the i3 3220 vs i5 3450 - go for the quad core i5 3450, even if the i3 performs well it is much better suited for future games/applications.
For gaming it's bad advice. Even Intel Pentium <100 dollar class outperform amd's. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-fx-pentium-apu-benchmark,3120-10.html With the sub-$100 Pentiums performing so well, Intel's $125 Core i3-2100 easily beats more expensive Phenom II and FX models. And the $190 Core i5-2400 dominates the sub-$200 landscape without challenge, really. As such, we're almost-shockingly left without an AMD CPU to recommend at any price point
Congratulations, you found a year old test that does not include any of the CPU's in question. Over to more recent reviews; Anandtech: "For anyone looking to build a good entry level gaming PC, the Trinity platform easily delivers the best processor graphics performance on the market today. If you're able to spend an extra $100 on a discrete GPU you'll get better performance, but below that Trinity rules." http://www.anandtech.com/show/6332/amd-trinity-a10-5800k-a8-5600k-review-part-1/9 My assumption for brining up the A10-5800K was that you where on a very strict budget.
Why would I turn off HT for? and if you did not have any parked cores before, it wont do much difference to remove the parking features. I on the other hand did have parked cores/threads and I got 30-60 FPS from removing it.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/675?vs=702 I rest my case $40 more for the i5 why not get it? and that cpu is $140 not exactly budget To answer the OP. If you cheap out now you will have to upgrade in a year or 2. If you spend the extra $150, in the long run you will spend less money. For comparison, a $300 i7 970 that is 3 years old defeats the A10 that was just released on every single test.http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/157?vs=675 The moral of the story is, spend the extra money you will be happier in the long run Do you have a specific budget for ram and cpu and mobo?
You have misread mr Anandtech... What he is saying is that if you do NOT get a $100 discrite GPU than trinity is recommended. He imples that if you get that $100+ dedicated gpu you do NOT want trinity. So it is the same conclusion as Tomshardware. By the way the age of the article is not really relevant... Nothign has changed since Ivy bridge is +- 10-15% faster and AMD latest generation added even less to cpu performance (they primarily improved igp). Compare this: As you can see cpu performance is HORRIBLE. Even on a budget (as tomshardware tested) you are better off chosing Intel... Here is a recent comparison Best Gaming CPUs For The Money: October 2012 http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-2.html It turns out that the budget-oriented Sandy Bridge-based Pentium family performs very well in games. Specifically, Intel's Pentium G630 beat the FX-4100, -6100, and -8120 in our sub-$200 CPU gaming comparison. In fact, it finished right on par with the Phenom II X4 955.
Most games do not make full use of quad core cpus. Toms Hardware has shown that on several tests. You need to look at the specific games you wish to run to decide if you want to go duel core or quad core. Depending on the video card you are running, your FPS might get bottle necked by your GPU long before your max out your CPU. I just build my son a new computer for his birthday and Xmas. I3 3220 with a Nvidia GTX 460 and 4gb DDR3 1600 ram. Before I boxed it back up I installed some games on it and tested it. It ran Skyrim just as fast as my PC does. My PC is a i5 2500k with a GTX460 and 8gb DDR3 2100 ram. Skyrim is a game that will make use of a quad core CPU, but because the GTX460 gets maxed out before the i3 does you can't tell a diffrence.
Finally finished shopping Settled on: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115234 Cause the 3450 went up $10 in one night, making only $5 cheaper, and only $5 cheaper isn't good enough for the drop in performance. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128540 Free 2x4GB memory w/ purchase, and I don't overclock, and I'm not going to put in 2 videocards (rolls eyes). Heck I'm gonna keep my 9800GT for now and see how it goes. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/157?vs=27 3 years ago I spent $120 on an AMD Athlon 6400+. That I7 is only 30% better. 30% better for almost 3X the price isn't great (Left4Dead)
You need a motherboard i would suggest this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128556 [Opps - We don't condone piracy --12]
Congrats you picked the test where they were the closest its more alone the lines of 90-95% performance increase average
Why? It's the same B75 chipset, costs $40 more and doesn't have $40 worth of free 8-gig RAM. It cost $80 more for what?
I cant confirm this, but I read somewhere that if you acquire a pirated win 7 copy you can then later upgrade to Win 8 for those really cheap prices that are currently available, thus providing you a really cheap legit win 8 copy. I think I paid over 200 dollars for my win 7 ultimate and the upgrade to win 8 is just 40 dollars or so. Personally I won't upgrade as I do not see any need for it as it provides little or no performance increase or security. It could be a cheap way to get a legit Win 8 copy though.
