I have the stand alone client, and i copied it to give it to my friend. when he launched the game he was automatically logged in as me. this is quite a security risk wouldnt you say? allowing someone else on a different pc to login as you without password authentication is quite dodge. what if i were at a lan and my game folder was copied by some random? or my friend passed on my game client to someone i dont know? they could easily delete my character etc. please look into this
Well, it's only you fault that your friend was able to log in using your username/password, not SOE. You did something that allowed that, not the game itself. It's not only SOE's duty to give player security for their information, you must take care of your personal information's security and you clearly didn't.
how is it that it automatically logs on my profile on a different computer my fault? and am I not allowed to share the free to play game client to save my friends downloading 7gb? im from south africa, we have pretty **** internet. makes downloading difficult.
You choosed to save your login and password and then you choosed to copy your own installation folder and give it to your friend... The game didn't do anything by itself. If you really don't want to risk to lose that kind of informations you should never save those in any situation (from games passwords to email accounts) and you should never copy installation folder and give them away. You are allowed to copy the installation folder and you did it without any problem. It's just your fault that your login infos moved to your friend's pc with the installation folder (it's pretty common that those infos are stored in the game installation folder).
I get what you're saying. In most MMOs (at least the many I've played), when the client "remembers" login information, it only remembers the username, not the password as well. Remembering both fields is pretty dangerous since anyone with access to your computer (with your permission or not) could login and delete characters. I don't know how the in-game store works, but they might even be able to run up charges as well.
What you should have done was only copy the Resources folder, that's the only folder you need to copy as it has the majority of the content. And, it -is- your fault for copying over all your Lauchpad files as that stores anything that's related to your login.
this it is indeed a major security issue. anyone saying its your own fault has a plate for his/her head. easy enough i plug in my usb and copy the game data and voila you just got yourself an account. what about IP/MAC detection aka trusted locations or just proper login
If you selected "Remember me on this computer" it's going to store your user credentials in your installation folder. If you then copy that folder somewhere else, naturally that file that has your credentials stored is going to follow it. Just delete the LaunchPad.Cache folder underneath the LaunchPad.libs folder on your friends computer and it will solve your issue.
I would hope that it stores using some pretty good encryption. We wouldn't want to have another "episode" if you know what I mean.
This client should not store it's login details like that. It's the only launcher I've gotten a hold of in the past few years that has this kind of issue. This is doubly important as copying Steam content is a very common practice.
