So, while I was watching a video on highly skilled players, one of the players shown was extremely good at gunning down players. When I read the comments, it turns out that said player was banned for using aimbot. After that, I watched another video by Wrel on the use of AI in the game. This made me wonder; could a person make their own bot account for planetside?

For example, could someone write a program that automates a character's movement, then use aimbot mods to create a mindless mobile turret?

Do you think that this is possible? Do you think people do it already?

Yes it has already been done and still being used. There has been youtube video's of it in action. Is it a cheat? Yes it is. Should they be banned? Yes they should. The problem is they just make another account and start the process all over again. This is the problem honest players have with games. Almost all game makers drop the ball on allowing cheaters to ruin their games every time.

My favorite video is "Overwatch cheaters get banned and cry".

Turns out, blizzard bans your account, you cannot even play on other games made by them and even if you rebuy the game you're still locked out. It's like they're says **** you cheaters, get out :3

A full on bot that plays the game without input? Not going to happen, just because the game is too varied and complex. It's not impossible in principle, but it's outside the scope of what a third-party hacker would realistically be able to do well - ie. having it be not very obvious that it was a bot.

A mindless aimbot turret? Yes, obviously that's possible. That's just an aimbot on a swivel essentially. Aimbots exist, and making it rotate around to look for targets in it's field of view would be trivial if you were so inclined...

That said, I haven't seen anything like that ever employed in the game during thousands of gameplay hours. I also see blatant aimbotting pretty seldomly - certainly a lot less than you would think given how much people complain about percieved "cheating". I probably get 8-10 false hackusations for every obvious hacker I see in the game (maybe once every 1-2 months), and I'm just one person. It's harder to gauge subtle cheats - but from a users point of view that will be pure speculation so I can't comment.

I think I can safely say that I see less sign of clear cheating in PS2 than I did while playing a lot of other FPSes like Battlefield ect. and it's a fairly minor annoyance that happens once in a blue moon. There is always room for improvement, and even one cheater is one too many, but it's not the epedemic that some make it out to be. It's an all too common and easy fallback for people with wounded egos.
