Well up until recently I've always stuck with the regular grenades. I'm pretty good with them, and they can be pretty effective when taking on big groups of infantry, forcing people out of position, and taking up kills when they are bunched up. I just recently got the concussion grenade because I thought it would e pretty useful to throw one in a room and run in and pop a few easy head shots. But I suck with these things, I keep flash banging myself even when I turn my back haha. Anyone have some tips for how to use these better? Or does anyone have these but still prefer the drag grenade? To me the overall effectiveness belongs to the concussion grenade if I can get to work right so id like to stick with these.
Concussion grenades are hard to use because there is always some moron ( esp NC ) who block the grenade trying shoot his weak *** carbine and concussing everyone behind him.
use anti tank grenades. Perfect for killing maxes camping in rooms. Most maxes dont even try and dodge grenades. so they get a big surprise when it takes half of their health. And half of the time you will kill the engineers repairing him.
It doesn't matter which way you are facing it. If you are too close you are going to hit yourself. Anyway that grenade is propably the easiest to use out of them all since it explodes on impact at any surface or player. Just make sure you are far enough and aim it on enemys feet.
It's funny to use and very effective with a little teamplay but i concuss myself 50% of times in urban fights. I definitely needs to aim farther!
I'd say the best time to use concussion grenades is when you're doing small squad stuff with minor skirmishes. Anything larger than that increases the odds of some idiot teammate catching it as you throw it, and making it easier for your enemy to wipe your squad out when it backfires. The effect of concussion grenades is so disorienting that it basically is a death sentence for whoever is on the receiving end of it, so they must be used intelligently. Throw them only when you are at a significant disadvantage. For example, I managed to clear four guys off a point by throwing one at the ceiling above the point terminal and cleaning them up with my MCG. If I didn't use the grenade, I probably would have only taken one guy to 50% HP before dying. I, too, would say it's better to have AV grenades most of the time, because it doesn't hurt your team as much if it backfires since they do very little damage to infantry. They're also great for busting up MAX crashes since you can take out a MAX or two, and maybe the Engy behind it. In large fights, those kinds of things are very likely to happen, so you should have plenty of opportunities to use AV grenades.
1. Use Conc grenade on enemy ZOE MAX 2. Pull out Decimator 3. Plant Decimator firmly in face 4. Mow down remaining sliver of HP with Mini Chaingun 5. ??? 6. PROFIT!!!
Before they nerf the concussion nade it was borderline OP. Now? Not so much. The problem, the effect is buggy at best: a) you will from time to time get hit by the concussion nade AFTER it has exploded b) the effect still goes through walls c) a very short duration, meaning that if you are using it indoors, you will have be very close explosion or the guy wont be effect by the nade, when you actually get to him. With that said its great for that 1 in a 50 situations where you meet a MAX in open ground.
^ this, I always end up hitting myself with conc grenades. AV grenades has gotten me some extra kills especially engineers that attempt to repair MAXs.
This is the one that gets me the most. Throw conc, hear it land and go bang, run in and then get hit by my own concussion; die shortly thereafter as enemies recover at the same time. Not every time, but enough that it's annoying.
Seems like the general consensus is pretty much what I experienced. I will say one of the few times I used the concussion grenade correctly I probably had one of the coolest moments of gameplay while playing an FPS online. An organized vanu squad were trying to cap a base, by the time NC noticed the cap was almost finished. PUG NC was spawning here trying to take back the point that the squad had held pretty well with medics and guys on the doors, I went in shot one guy on he stair case, killed a ally infiltrator in the process (oops) ran around to the back staircase and came up behind them. Shot one guy from behind and another as he ran out the door, reloaded, tossed my concussion grenade into the room. Ran in and killed the remaining 5 guys by myself and stopped the cap. As much as they can backfire on you they also allow you to do some pretty badass stuff. I think my biggest problem with them is I keep trying to skip and bank them just like you do with frag grenades, and they explode on impact so most people end up flashing themselves hen they try to skip or bank them off the floor or wall. Also I've been noticing my infantry resources get drained by these things, the extra 30 resources seem to make a difference, and I don't really know why they are more expensive than frags.
Thats my biggest worry regarding concussion grenades is when in big firefights with no coordination i'll blind just as many colleagues as i would the enemy and that makes the entire excercise useless. I can see its uses, but it will be tough going when pubbing as i expect no shortage of grief. I suppose it would be most useful like say stunning a crowd of people near a sunderer and causing chaos for room/bio dome breeching but again, very tough to do and probably simply/cheaper to spawn a lighting with HE and just dump shells into the crowd. Oh great. Now i feel like i wasted 200 certs for nothing. Should have bought suit upgrades with those precious certs. Still, still got 6000+ certs that i don't feel like spending or feel like wasting on stuff i won't use.
