[Suggestion] Cloud release PS2

Could PS2 be released as a cloud based game for say Gaikai.

It would allow low end PCs that can't even run/ struggle to run the game the opportunity to experience it in all its beauty. + PS4 release would be easy this way

Ive played several FPSs on Onlive (a similar service) and it works great with a decent internet connection.

Wishful thinking mate but this is where the future is....maybe Planetside 3 lol platform independent cloud based MMOFPS.....

    Hi,
why shouldn't it be possible via GAIKAI?

All games I tried ran very well (I tested it before SONY's take-over). Also the Multiplayer worked without any issues.

    Hi,
I'm trying to get the devs read my suggestion for GAIKAI support for PSide2, so I will open a new thread...you can join and please tell others. The name will be GAIKAI for PSide2...I'll write the following:

    Hello!
    please read carefully:

As PS2 needs a very powerful PC (Desktop!) to properly run (run at all), I have an idea to solve that issue and make it possible for more people ( = your new customers) to experience that game even with any older laptop:
Since Sony bought the Cloud Game Streaming service known as GAIKAI, why don't you use GAIKAI's technology to let players (who pay for it) play PSide2 via GAIKAI?

This way people with any average PC/laptop and an internet connection over 3MBit/s could play PS2 in maxed out specs!

Before Sony bought GAIKAI, I had the chance of testing some Games: One was Crysis 2/3, but on a Netbook! It ran absolutely smoothly, there was almost no noticable delay no frame rate drop at all. ...I was blown away!

I'd love to be able to play PS2 over GAIKAI, maybe you could be so kind as to escalate this suggestion to someone in charge who knows what GAIKAI is and could talk to the responsible person at Sony.

Because lets state one thing: PlanetSide2 seems to be that greatest MMO-FPS Game of the last time, but if it doesn't run on the (casual) people's (non-gaming) laptop then only the hard core people will play it and I don't know, if you can make enough money from them alone.

Via GAIKAI everyone (no matter how crappy the PC) could test the game and subscribe to paid service (GAIKAI: no installation/download required at all!)...certainly the easiest way to test the game and spread it to the masses!

    Regards,
    Raph

I hope the admins don't mind if I double posted (since I'm very new to this).

Wouldn't there be a serious amount of latency...? It's already bad enough on your own computer, but adding in a STREAMING service on top? You're going to get destroyed.
  6. EvilPhd

Pardon me, but WTF is Gaikai?
If modern beef as hell rigs struggle to play a single instance of PS2, then how is a cloud server going to handle 100's if not 1000's of clients?
  7. f0d

onlive/gaikai is horrible for fps games
i have tried it and you can definitely notice the latency

if i had a bad computer (which i dont) id still rather play on that than play a streamed (gaikai/onlive) version of it

    Hey,
    just look at my thread:
    GAIKAI for PSide2 (PCs)

GAIKAI is just giving you an audio/video stream of the game so your PC can be very old. It just has to have a fast internet connection (over 3 Mbit/s !!) and must be able to run Java (or Flash).

I tried it out and it worked very well with Crysis, Mass Effect 3, ....

    BTW:
Those Servers are way more powerful than any modern consumer Destop PC, I guess they will be very well able to handle 1000s of instances at the same time.

...that is true, you notice some latency, but I've also tried it and as far as I can say (I played almost all FPSs available on GAIKAI) all games were playable very well. Certainly better than on an old PC (with low FR).

On an old PC your Fps will be so horribly low that I cannot imagine how you could enjoy playing any FPS.
And keep in mind, on GAIKAI the settings were always maxed out!

    Best wishes!

    BTW:
I've played Crysis 2 on a Netbook...after 5 Minutes my (student's) room was full because my floor mates couldn't believe it. If you ever have tried it out (yourself!), you should be blown away!
  11. [SFx]FFx

Before I tried it out, I thought the same. But what Gaikai claimed was actually quite true!

Your PC mainly only sends the mouse & keyboard commands and then receives a compressed video with sound. It looks great and the latency is also very low...the guys here at my place (students, Germany) who are non gamers did not even notice that it did not run locally. I also hardly could tell.

I would sign up immediately, as I'm kind of too old for continuously upgrading my PC...anyway I only use a Laptop and my old Desktop stays at home.

    no. Just no.

Horrendous resolution and quality, horrendous lag. Maybe it doesn't seem so bad if you get 10fps in game, but its beyond unplayable (as are 10fps)
  13. [SFx]FFx

...what exactly DID you try to say that?
  14. LonelyTerran

I have played with 5-10fps since starting.

  15. [SFx]FFx

...that would be a reason for me to stop.

The last time I had so low Fps was in "Natural Selection" Mod for Half-Life...a long time ago. ;-)
  16. Nocturnal7x

I think you should try building a computer for gaming, if you are going to play games on a computer. ;)
  17. [SFx]FFx

    Yeah,
you know I'm kind of old (29). Building your own Desktop really makes a lot of fun and can be a challenge too...I used to make 'em for my whole family and friends...but you also always need a lot of time for it - I'm a perfectionist (certainly it's cheaper!).

When I was at school, I still had loads of time for this and for Real Life, but now I'm giving the favour to RL...and that's certainly the better choice.

Now, I've to make more important decisions and actions, as to finish my studies and find a job/internship. And I've a nice girlfriend too, who does need some time as well ;-) .

All in all I sometimes wish to have more time for gaming (and so on) but as it looks I've just transformed into a casual gamer...just because I lack the time for it.

For me GAIKAI would be the best, as I then could play all the games I'd like (and that with my current Laptop)...I won't buy a new machine for games anymore.
I could just start to play PSide2, squad up with some cool people (when I've some spare time). For me that would be perfect.

    BTW:
Supernatural is really funny, together with The Walking Dead I liked it a lot!

Best wishes & enjoy your gaming as you still can :) !!

OF COURSE they're not going to notice, they don't play games so they don't believe anything is wrong. Anyone who plays seriously will notice tremendous latency issues.
