So, makes me wonder is it ok for you (NC and VS) that the claymore is clearly overperforming? I don't see much crying on forums about that <?> Well, instead, maybe should I say: the claymore is fine - its bouncing betty and proximity mine needs serious buff. My gameplay today was almost exclusively deaths by claymore. About 8 times. Instakill. It's absolutly SUPERIOR. And you can stay behind it and watch me dying. You'll be just fine. Countless times when my betty killed me cause i was in damage range radius. Flak enemy survived lol.
It isn't the first thread about claymores and not the last if it's what you want to hear. Claymores used to be worse than other mines, they got buffs, NC/VS mines got nerfs (funny enough how they added lights when the main issue was that these mines could drop below floor level, becoming undetectable). You can use T1 EOD HUD, should be enough to avoid them. It isn't top priority issue, I don't think that any changes will happen anytime soon.
You just need to adopt the proper combat situation workflow: Are the TR attacking or defending? -Yes Can the structure count as a doorway?-Yes.There's a Claymore planted there.-No.Can the structure count as a "corner?"-Yes.There's a Claymore planted there.-No.Am I wearing maximum rank flak armor right now?-Yes.I expect to encounter a Claymore pretty soon.-No.I will encounter a Claymore pretty soon.-No. There's a Claymore planted somewhere.
Betties and proxys just need the instant trigger the claymore has, as the delay on them allows people to run out of BB/Prox Area of Death very often.
The Claymore is a directional explosive, hence it does more damage. Unlike Proximity Mines and Bouncing Betties you can't just plop them anywhere and get kills that way. Working as intended.
I've checked them, claymores don't bypass Flak suit. Flak3 should be barely enough to survive for every class except infiltrator (910 dmg).
but you have to drop betties and proxies in plain view in order to work, which combined with blinkenlights is as stupid as it gets and requires Stevie Wonder levels of blindness, not to mention the delay that allows people to just run away from the lethal zone or turn the i-win shield on to tank it. There is only so much you can do to use them remotely effectively, while with claymores the sky is the limit. Claymore can be behind any corner, rock and crate and it just instagibs you out of nowhere. Often it's not possible to peek around a corner to check without triggering it as there are no visible lazorz. I eat the VS proxy maybe once a month and pretty much every time i see it but my brain doesn't process the information in time, but the claymore gets me every other time i fight TR without flak and it's always out of the blue.
The way mines work in this game is terrible. You shouldnt be able to chuck something on the ground that blows up and ohk an infantry or vehicle unit. Mines should be changed to have effects instead. Spotter mines for example that explode 'painting' everyone in a 10 meter radius and in los with a 'paint' that causes them to be spotted on the mini until they die or have the effect 'cleansed' by a medic. Immobilization mines that slow movement speed by 50% for 30 secs. Range limit mines maybe for vehicles along with the movement speed mine that limits range to 50% of normal or causes bullet drop to increase significantly or reduce velocity. There are all kinds of ways that mines could be used strategically without them being silly ohks. Also if they only had cool effects on them they could be made invisible again. Chucking ohk pancakes all over the place needs to go.
Why would that be? They too have a trigger radius; bushes, corners, nooks and crannies... Get creative.
Betties and Proxies are better able to cover larger areas, and can be dropped from valks for some fun times. That said, yes, Claymores are clearly better in practical situations. They used to be total garbage and got buffed into first place.
OHK passive items are annoying as hell (all mines, prox etc).. But the claymore is not OP. Yes, it does slightly more damage but in return it sticks up like a flag and only triggers in one direction: the flat face with the two green lasers shining out. The description in game should really make that part clearer.
If someone dies to a prox or BB "plopped anywhere"... they are soo soo bad. Not only do you have the nice flashing lights (claymore lasers for some reason never seem towork) but you can sprint straight through them and survive with 0 flak armor. Having used all 3, I would pay money to get claymores on my NC and VS chars.
My point is that you *can* plop them anywhere and due to being flat it is possible to grab a kill; that simply won't fly with Claymores. Also, Claymores are difficult to perform "pizza delivery" runs with, whereas BBs and PMs (the latter especially) are a breeze.
Bouncing Betties glow brighter than a BR100 MLG smokeweedeveryday VS HA and are just as bouncy when you walk up to them. And deadly. Proximity mines are a bit less glowey, but have the courtesy to beep before exploding violently. Claymores don't give a ****. I have died to perhaps twice as many Claymores as Betties and Proxies COMBINED, simply because there is no visual OR audible cue. That they only activate in one direction doesn't even matter when you don't see them at all.
Alright.. for the people saying "working as intended": If these weren't faction specific and you had to cert into the different mines individually, which AI mine do you think most people would take?
