Class Commitment

As I was playing last night it dawned on me that since launch I have pretty much committed all of my time and cert points to the light assault class. I'll dabble in engineer here and there when I need to use a repair too but otherwise I always spawn as light assault. There's no real reason for me to do this and in games like battlefield I would always spawn as a variety of classes.

Are most of you focusing exclusively on light assault or do you have a couple classes as your "mains" ?

I am all over the place.. Inf, Engineer, and LA. Depends on my mood, sometimes I feel like puttering around and soloing. Sometimes I feel like bind rushing something stupid. The one thing I don't do is change toons.. Building multiple characters seems like it would require more time than I have.

I barely play LA myself unless I need to get somewhere specific that other classes have no way of getting to (or are slower to get there), but otherwise my main class is Medic, switching to Engineer when I'm driving a vehicle, or Inf when I'm sneaking into some place to turn their terminals off or snipe some people standing almost still on enemy bases' landing pads, roofs, etc.
Once they bring back the ICARUS, I might as well consider playing LA more XD

I also almost exclusively play LA, mostly because it's so hard to let go of the jet pack. So far I haven't really felt the need to really put certs into other classes since some of the weapon certs transfer anyway (my shotgun is auto unlocked for all of them...). I occasionally use Engi when flying around or patching up generators, but the base functionality is competent enough for most cases it seems. I might put some certs into maxes at some point, but those are more like vehicles than actual classes anyway.

Its by far my strongest class and I honestly feel it is the tied second (with HA) strongest class in the game after medic. Level 32 now with about 28 of those levels into LA certs (the rest in HA).

The class felt lacking at first (engi with a jump pack), but now with ext mag shotguns, flashbangs, silenced CQC carbines and double C4 the class feel like a badass commando.

If I need to kill a tank the choice between HA and LA is generally difficult. Same for infantry, do I want to overpower or outmaneauver these enemys? - both options are good.

LA since launch! have had a heard time at the beginning. sucky weapons, bad aiming, no C4 and so on.
but now with double c4, my shotgun, flashbangs and drifter jets i feel almost invinceable. flanking and busting tanks never felt so easy
i just totaly feel lost in open terrain like the desert stuff on indar.

I played HA until i got the araxium medal on the gauss saw. Then I certed up engis repair tool and got bouncing bettys and mines. But since I started using the jet pack, the only time i switch is to engi to drop mines or repair a base. The jetpack and light assault is awesome.

Now that I think about it the jetpack may be a big part of the reason I stick with light assault almost exclusively. It really has such a fundamental effect on how you move and fight in the game that I almost don't know how to effectively play a class whose vertical movement is restricted.

This right here pretty well describes it.

I'll pull out a tank as a engy if there's heavy armor fighting, or a dual burster max if there's a lot of air, but if it is not one of those two situations, its LA all the way.

Perhaps if I was a better pilot, but as it stands, a Reaver is a Kamikaze transport for me. Aim it, then jet pack out at the last second.

I enjoy it the most. Jetting around, sneaking up on enemy lines from behind etc. I even get a kick out of just being able to full rambo straight off the cliffs around the crown or bunny hopping between rock outcrops with my Nighthawk. When things get hairy it's great to be able to just jump off a bridge instead of having to retreat :D

I dabble in other classes but LA is by far my fav.

Honestly LA doesn't benefit the team very much. No rockets for vehicles, no repairs or ammo, no heals, no revives, no hacks. On top of all that, they're easily cut down by nearly every other class.

LA seems like a novelty. They excel at only one thing: trolling.
  12. Regpuppy

They're a good solo class if you want to farm up certs in bio labs and the like, but they really do not add much to a squad. The only times they do is during those rare times where everyone switches to light assault to get into specific spots, but other than that. The mobility just makes it fun to fight as an LA. That's about it.

Been playing it the most since beta, but still can't help shake the feeling and I very often have to switch up classes to help the team at all. Any class can do some close quarters clearing, so our main selling point is shooting down on people from trees and buildings or using C4. The latter being possible, even if not as convenient, for other classes.

That ability to go vertical does help the team a lot though if you're using it right. I've seen many times where a group of friendlies were pinned in a location due to a knot of bad guys suppressing them. By going over the building they're taking cover behind and lobbing some explosives down on them, they're now broken up and the friendlies can advance.

The best example of this is the Bio Labs. You can get to places nobody else can that can reach people from angles they need to consider, and most don't because they're expecting attack from ground/balcony level. It applies to all bases though really.

Really it's no different than playing a sniper. You are able to attack the enemy from angles and in ways nobody else can.

As to class loyalty, I started out playing LA almost exclusively. I then unfortunately discovered vehicles and the unlimited pewpew Engineer which was even more seductive than the jetpack for me. Still, when I have a specific goal in mind on a spawn or if I'm fighting in a place where the vertical is almost necessary, I quite often will take an LA.
  14. Vashyo

I'm spending certs on medic, heavy and engineer. Since those classes are the backbone of the army.

    I change classes a lot.

Sometimes I play a single class for a couple of hours, but more often than not, I'm changing per engagement. I run with an outfit -When we back cap with a sundy, I run engineer. When I run with just 1 or 2 guys, I go infiltrator, when we roll together as a large outfit to big battles, I do LA or HA, depending on the base. If we're holding down a base we captured and need anti-air, I go MAX. The only thing I don't do is medic, no real reason, just haven't. I also have upgraded weapons for each class (except medic), so have put certs in to weapons for them all, bought new weapons and varying levels of skill/ability, etc.. upgrades. My skills and abilities on most classes are definitely lower than if I was 100% specialised.

So, I change frequently, depending on what my outfit is doing at the time and what we need. I rarely or never solo. Smallest team I would go with would be 1 or 2 outfit buddies when we go infiltrator and back cap together on foot.

I started out playing just infiltrator for about 1 week. Putting all my certs in to that class for the first week means infiltrator is still my strongest class. I went from just infiltrator to changing a lot once I joined the outfit and saw how they played (changing a lot). What really made my mind up to start changing - we pulled up to a tech plant wall, and every single one of my new outfit hopped out of the sundy and jet packed over the wall! I was still infiltrator..and just watched them go thinking "huh"??

Started mixing it up a lot then, and haven't looked back. I find it more fun.

i'm the same ive cert exclusively for LA but will pull out the HA if their too many enemy vehicles around and AA max if there is too much Air.. Though really i like LA, i Like hunting snipers in the hills, c4 ing lightnings and sundies getting a good flanking position on enemy positions, h8 running smak into max's and snipers, ooh i h8 snipers :)

Too peeps saying that they dont offer the team anything...idk... i think if used properly they provide the intangible.... breaking up the menacing enemy grp by sheer ability to flank and quickly... a organised team with LA can quickly clear the walls of a stronghold well b4 any other class get even in.. Infiltrators also get chucked in the same boat but i really believe that without them things would b a lot more difficult IMO
  17. Anvos

Mostly I switch between LA and HA depending on which is more useful for the situation. Beyond that I'll splash in Max, Inf, and Engi time if the need arises or I get bored. Don't really play Med since is a hard class to lone wolf with.
  18. Mr Maigo

It is easy to play LA as a loner. But in an organized squad/platoon, they're super important. No other class can get behind enemy lines like the LA. Flanking the Zerg is often the quickest way to break the stalemate. Moving enemy troops away from the battle lines does wonders; be it starting a cap, C4'ing a sundy/tank, starting to camp the spawn or just dumping mags into their squishy flanks. It all works. My Outfit always has a special forces squad that flies in to ruin their day. I can't tell you how many times I've broken a long stalemate by NOT being a Zerg. That's why we have a jetpack and C4. Every other class can be happy with their .8 K/D, but LA is here to bring the pain.

The only times I play another class is when I can't go around, no one is keeping the Sundy alive or I'm a bit bored.
  19. NebulaWrath31

I also mainly play as Light Assault. To me, it's more fun to play because of the jumpjets.
  20. Benton!

Totally! When attacking TI Alloys from the crown, I get a huge kick jumping off the cliff facing TI Alloys and pretending I'm a paratrooper. So much fun :)
